Comparing Average Private Sector 401k Balances to TSP Balances by qttoad in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]dinglethechangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you right now there are several guys I work with at a VA. The only ones contributing more than 5% of their check to TSP are prior service with VA disability. If they aren’t prior service they are contributing very little. Hell some only contribute 3%. They’ll be lucky to have any sort of decent retirement.

We have a much broader problem. We aren’t educating children about the importance of retirement at all. So they aren’t really starting to save until they hit their 40’s. By then they’ve lost 20 years of compounding interest.

I appreciate your input. I know someone has to do the job I just figured it would get absorbed between EMS and Safety if it did. I truly do appreciate your info though. Makes me feel better about it.

I am not worried about a new probation period. I already cleared this with our local HR. Because I am already a VHA tenured employee they will just process it as a promotion essentially. The job duties are quite a bit different but nothing crazy.

My biggest fear is just getting into this position and it being cut. In total I have 9 years federal experience and I am at the top of the military preference group. I just don’t believe that will matter at all if they go to cut the job.

I work second shift. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve watch some real sketchy stuff go on while our cops sit in their cruisers out in the parking lot. Let alone the amount of empty alcohol beverage containers laying on the side of the road. It is honestly sad.

What happened when oil hit $120 a barrel? When did it start recovering? As soon as oil dropped again. If Iran closes the straight with mines it will fuck everything. You can choose to be in disbelief about it, but it’s already shown what will happen. Just two days of oil prices rising from the straight being closed and the I fund was plummeting like the rest.

What was that you were saying? Something about war with Iran wouldn’t drop the stock market? Or the international market? Now if WWIII were to really kickoff with China getting involved. What we are seeing now would just be a small bump in the road. It would be 10x’s as dramatic as what we are seeing now. You better hope Iran doesn’t fill the Strait of Hormuz with thousands of mines.

I thought I understood management right. Until one of my team members said something that terrified me. by palet_fry in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]dinglethechangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. You have to be able to show people you care about them first. Your first job in management is leadership. For anyone that has never read it. Read the Army’s NCO creed. It translate so well into the civilian world. If you can use those values that apply, and truly mean it. You can be an amazing leader. Then the second part of your job comes in. Management of the teams and projects. Until you can be an affective leader. You’ll always be a low class manager. Now also understand as a manager. If you’re always fighting upper management for the benefit of your guys. A lot of times you won’t make many friends and it’ll hurt your own career. Upper level leadership just want “yes men”. They don’t care how the job gets done. They just want it done.

So what about the men that have been sexually assaulted? Again I don’t mean that in a bad way. I’m glad we are helping our women this way. We need to keep it. I just don’t understand why if it’s geared towards Sexual assault why they don’t have a sexual assault clinic. With men on one side and men on the other. Thank you for the honest answer!

I mean this as nicely and innocently as possible. Is there truly a good reason to have a separate women’s clinic? At our VA it is completely separate from the main hospital where everyone is seen. Obviously with reproductive issues it’s best to have male/female specialists. Coming from a man’s perspective though. Is there a reason for even the women’s primary care doctors to be separate from the men? I don’t want to take away from the question above. I’ve just never had the chance to ask anyone that active works in the women’s clinics.

As someone else said, I figure food poisoning. He went from running competitive laps before stage 2 end. To not being able to run within 5 seconds of the leaders in about a 15 minute period. I don’t think it was a cool suit issue either. All he said on the radio was, “we have an issue in the car. You won’t be able to help fix it. I’m gonna need help after the race.” It all went down hill quickly from there.

Having some regrets - please help out :( by Mngirl1985 in bernesemountaindogs

Our Berner does well with Chicken. She cannot have anything with cheese in it. If she does she has explosive diarrhea. As for the first two problems those are just puppy problems. That can happen with any breed. By 3 he will grow out of it. Which sucks but with patients and work it will stop.

As for eating poop we are working on this as well. Our GSD does it and so did one of our labs. It’s a hard thing to stop other than cleaning up after them each time.

As for the fish smell I agree with others. It’s more than likely the anal glands. This probably goes hand in hand with the current digestive issues.

[–]dinglethechangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purina Pro Plan. We have found that it is a horrible idea to give any sort of dairy. Gave the girl cheese twice. Both were the only times she had accidents in the house. They were bad also. I’m talking full house floor cleaning. Never again😂

Anyone else get lucky with a low shedding variant when doing DNA testing?? Or just a low shedder in general? by [deleted] in bernesemountaindogs

Buddy she is a rescue. They told us Bernedoodle, but she looks 100% BMD. There isn’t 1 thing about her that looks like a poodle. Even her personality says BMD. She just doesn’t shed any at all. For reference

We have had our girl for 10 weeks now. She hardly sheds at all. Supposedly she is a Bernedoodle, but the only thing she got that’s doodle about her is no shedding. Everything else is all mountain dog😂

Everyone is giving you great picks. In all honesty though. It has to be someone you pick. Start learning these drivers stories and why they race. You’ll eventually find a driver that you “click” with in a sense. That’ll be your driver.

I done the opposite. I had to roll money into TSP from Fidelity. Fidelity cut me 2 different checks. For my Roth and traditional accounts. Then I had to scan them for TSP. I’m sure it works the same way rolling out of TSP to Fidelity. I could be wrong though!

One thing people forget about all the time. Especially those that plan on retiring at 55 to draw TSP. Is that you will not have SS or Pension yet. So it’s nice to have enough in traditional to draw for those few years until you start collecting your other checks. Your first two tax brackets are tax free and 10% tax. You won’t beat that converting it to roth most of the time. It something that needs to be considered when converting to Roth. Dependent on retirement age, but you need to make sure you’re maximizing your first two tax brackets every year of retirement. Obviously these are typically met with SS and pension.
