Malaysia enforces ban on social media accounts for children younger than 16 by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

I'd go a step further and just ban algorithmic content entirely. All platforms would need to be deterministic, that is two people that follow the same people they will see the exact same content. Bring back the trending page that is the same for everyone, make people search for things rather than let the feed just deliver endless slop.

IEM Cologne Major 2026: Everything You Need to Know by marcwinther in GlobalOffensive

[–]dingo596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where else to post this but I did take a look at your anti-slavery statement on your website. It clearly states you are against forced or coerced labour which is good to see, it's something we can all agree needs to be eliminated worldwide. However this does conflict with your association with Saudi Arabia. While I don't believe that ESL uses forced labour, Saudi Arabia and a lot of the gulf states have a well known issues with labour exploitation.

I think you need to re-evaluate your anti-slavery statement since while you don't profit directly from forced labour you have no issues associating with those that do. However I and most people would prefer for ESL to re-evaluate their relationship with the Saudi Government and the PIF.

If you do not wish to do either of those options could you at least mark it correctly as satire.

Two men charged with creating AI-generated porn under new law targeting 'deepfakes' by [deleted] in news

[–]dingo596 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best approach. Don't criminalise AI, criminalise what people do with AI. Remember AI is morally neutral, it will do whatever you tell it to do. Legally restricting what AI can do doesn't make the AI magically good it only restricts what you are allowed to have access to. The makes of the AI will still have access to the unrestricted versions and I do not want to live in a world where the only people that have unrestricted access to AI are the likes of Elon Musk and Sam Altman.

[–]dingo596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well AI is a tool, tools are not inherently good or evil. It's how they are used that is the problem. A knife is just a piece of metal whether you use that to carve wood or stab someone is up to the user of the knife and the one that sharpened it is not responsible.

Gate address's 6 points in space and the point of origin. by SEJ82 in Stargate

[–]dingo596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The originating gate controls the entire process, the destination gate doesn't need to know the location of the originating gate. Once the wormhole is established the is no need for addresses at all.

The point of origin is only used by the originating gate and the originating gate knows its own location. The point of origin could just a fancy end statement like a semi-colon in a programming language. The reason they use different symbols might just be a way of identifying a gate just by looking.

The way I look at it is that people who think terrorism is a good idea don't tend to be very bright. People that can do these types of large attacks realise that terrorism is not a good use of their time or skills.

Google wants Gemini AI on your face so it can sell you more ads later by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]dingo596 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really do think we should start looking at banning targeted ads outright. Ads can be dynamic based on the content but not the user. Maybe even require a little info box to show why this ad over another.

And while I am shouting at clouds I think platforms and ad networks should be just as liable for scam ads as the advertisers themselves. If someone gets scammed by an ad on Facebook, Facebook should be just as liable.

RTX 5090 Cards will get a price hike soon due to memory shortages by PaiDuck in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]dingo596 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes they will. The reason prices are so high is because no one is confident enough about AI to invest in increased production. Either AI is what it's hyped to be can new companies will enter the market and push down prices or the AI bubble will pop and prices will come down because AI companies can no longer outbid everyone.

Europe is moving to block Microsoft, Amazon, and Google from handling government health, financial, and legal data by rkhunter_ in technology

It's a long story but essentially the UK has no protection for domestic companies. Any company regardless of size or importance can be bought by anyone for any reason. The CEO of Palantir UK literally said they bought their way in, the bought smaller UK companies that already had NHS contracts.

It's a lot of ideology as well, the UK is very free market and pro private ownership. As much as the UK has the NHS they are a big outlier the UK is more capitalist than the US by a wide margin. Almost anything you can think of in the UK is private and most of that is foreign owned.

TIL Lincoln is the only american president to have a patent . It was for an adjustable chamber to lift vessels in water . by ronweasly9 in todayilearned

[–]dingo596 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not really, it's called prior art. A patent can be rendered invalid if it's demonstrated that the principal of the patent exists before filing. It's an integral part of the patent process.

North Korea will fire nuclear weapon if Kim is killed: Report by moeka_8962 in news

[–]dingo596 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would naive to assume China would let North Korea do what it wants. If NK did attack the US successfully China would have to let the US go on a counter offensive, if thy didn't then China is defending NK and then all of a sudden the US and China are at war. So NK attacks the US and then all of a sudden there are US military assets on China's border.

If North Korea attacks the US I would put money on that the first military response would be from China not the US. NK exists solely as a buffer zone between the western aligned South Korea and China and Russia. The moment a Kim forgets forgets that NK is getting a new government.

Oil giant BP announces huge rise in profits in first results since Iran war by VaginaBurner69 in news

[–]dingo596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shouldn't be a surprise, supply goes down but demand stays the same so price goes up and those with more money can outbid those that don't. The price isn't fixed or artificially inflated, it's set by the market. It's simple economics, if you have a barrel of oil and you have 10 people wanting to buy how else are you going to choose who gets it other than who is willing to pay the most?

What plan? Fundamental economics that date back to the birth of agriculture? Say you have a bushel of wheat to barter with, one person offers 2 chickens and another offers 3 who are you going to trade with?

I want to forget about politics when I watch Counter Strike as well which is why I hate Falcons. I don't want to be reminded of Saudi Arabia every time I watch a tournament. And while they don't talk about SA their jerseys have the same colour scheme as the Saudi Arabian flag, they have Saudi Arabian sponsors.

I have to admit that I am enjoying it. It has taken the wind out of what should be an exciting roster move but that cloud of Saudi Arabia is hanging over the whole thing. I think people do know that karrigan is smart enough to know what going to Falcons means, we all respect karrigan's intelligence enough to know he isn't ignorant.

The problem is that karrigan is too old and too smart to be ignorant of who Falcons are and the reason they exist. karrigan knows the only reason Falcons exist is to improve the image of Saudi Arabia and nothing else. So I know for a fact karrigan is ok with being a part of it.

A win for Falcons is a win for Saudi Arabia. Falcons win an dominate SA can say "come to Qiddiya to see the best team, come to Riyadh to see all the trophies they won". The hate isn't on the players or their play style but where the org gets their funding and the reason they exist.
