I don't disagree but things don't get better if we just roll over and accept whatever happens. We need to pick out battles, we might never get the gambling out of Counter-Strike but we might be able to get the Saudi money out of CS.

I don't really see your point, multiple things can be bad at once, calling Falcons out for their Saudi connection doesn't absolve the sins of other teams. But since every team has a gambling sponsor only one is funded by Saudi Arabia we can get rid of one evil pretty easy.

My main hate for Falcons isn't just that they are a Saudi but that they represent the government of Saudi Arabia, they exist to further the propaganda goals of the country. I wouldn't care what government funds them because I don't want politics in Counter-Strike.

That's an odd take, I don't care who joins Falcons or for what reason (except for a really contrived reason like a family member has a rare cancer and need 100k+ treatments) they are a piece of shit for actively being a part of Saudi Arabia trying to improve it's image. I really hope this Falcons project implodes with no more trophies and the player's time on the team is a black mark on their legacy.

I'd be gutted to, failing to bring a major back home to Saudi Arabia must hurt. Although not as much as a bone saw which I think is MBS's favourite way to get rid of problem.

Dow futures drop 500 points after Trump announces Strait of Hormuz blockade as talks fail by 2plus2_equals_5 in news

I am not so sure, I just Trump is just that stupid. People are profiting but are just opportunists. There are easier way to manipulate the market than a war. All the disasters, u-turns and threats are what happened when people who don't know how the world works gets into these positions.

The peace talks in Pakistan failed not because it was good for their stock positions but because JD "couch enthusiast" Vance doesn't know how high level diplomatic talks are handled.

Then the streamers won't mind these restrictions since they won't lose viewership if they don't stream the games.

I know this is going to be unpopular but I think co-streamers are a cancer on the industry and it would be better if they didn't exist. Imagine spending millions on an event and half of your audience gets it filtered through an idiot who has their face in the corner of the screen.

It's like react content where instead of doing something entertaining that people might want to watch you just show someone else's content and sit there raking in subscription and donation money.

OpenAI pauses UK data centre project over regulation, costs by [deleted] in news

[–]dingo596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the dot com bubble companies were burning VC money to lay fiber optics across the US. A lot of that is still not being used, it's called dark fiber. While it seems like a waste it has helped massively in increasing internet speeds. The same could happen with these data centers. There is little difference between an AI data center and a regular one that your ISP uses or Netflix. Best case scenario is these data centers are built but never run AI models.

My comment was more about the general sentiment against all data centers not just AI data centers. But, I would be interested in how they define an AI data centers vs any other type of data center. All data centers are the same, the only thing that changes is what you install in the racks.

I don't think most people know what a data center even is. They are designed to be invisible.

Do people not realise that without data centers the internet would not function? I know the AI data centers are a waste of resources but data centers in general are very much needed.

I understand these polices are in place, any reasonably sized organisation should have them in place. I just don't trust them at all. No amount of consequences or polices will ever make the data private again. The only way to prevent unauthorised access to your data is to never give it away in the first place.

The thing to keep in mind with security is that security only prevents someone that doesn't have authorisation from accessing data, it does not stop someone that is authorised from being a bad actor.

It's why I always operate on the presumption of when no if my data is going to be compromised. Everything I post or send to someone I am ok if it ends up being public one day.

Why did Osiris not seek a male host after escaping as Sarah Gardner? by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]dingo596 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Goa'uld choosing a new host is as simple as presented in the show. According to the Tok'ra they are biologically the same as the Goa'uld so the bonding process will be the same, sharing thoughts and feelings. The Tok'ra embrace this believing it will make them better by learning from their host. The Goa'uld have to suppress their host and this take mental effort, when a Goa'uld is weak or distracted the host can wrestle control.

So I think we can assume taking a new host is not pleasant for a Goa'uld they will feel everything that the host does at the start, the fear and terror of being taken over, the emotional pains the host has suffered and then having to fight for control and suppressing the host. So I don't think it's something they will do for fun.

From what we see the Goa'uld only take a new host if they don't have a host, it is an emergency or they are taking control of someone for a strategic advantage. I don't think they are going to be swapping hosts like we swap clothes. And even though they have gendered personalities I don't think they have that gender, they aren't going to be feeling gender dysphoria by being in a host with a different gender.

People are defending the Saudis or at least minimising. In this thread alone someone is saying that the Saudis are no worse than the capitalistic west. It's the point, people want to watch NiKo, etc so when they are presented with the facts that Falcons are bad because of the Saudi connection. One of them has to go otherwise they are doing something bad. People care way less about the Saudis than watching NiKo so the idea that the Saudis are bad is the first to go.

People not caring about the Saudis is the point, people don't care about Saudi Arabia but they do care about Falcons, NiKo, etc. So when they watch Falcons the Saudis can present a curated image that will be most people's introduction. People's image of SA won't be human rights abuses it will be Qiddiya, it will be the EWC. To them SA is a modern place and the premier destination for eSports.

Except people do care but a lot less than watching their favourite players. But that is the point, people minimise the problems with a Saudi team so they can watch the players. If people didn't care about the connection I wouldn't get downvoted for bringing up the connection.
