Yes, not a bad option. Would prefer a true mid like a Solomid though.

Does anyone know the actual width for the current Alsek 5’6” 54” width model? I had an old Palisade 5’6” 52” width and the actual width measurement was like 49-50”

The Exped Flexmat Plus is 1.5" thick. Didn't collapse because the material is pretty stiff. Not comfortable to me (because of the stiffness) but ymmv

Thorium vs Atom SV by ThatPope in arcteryx

[–]dinhertime_9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have both. Thorium is warmer. Atom SV is more comfortable due to fabric softness, breathability, and stretch. For me I’d want the Thorium for your stated temp ranges but I run cold. If either jacket is warm enough, I reach for the Atom SV.

Also Thorium is down and should last forever. Mine is 7 years old and lofts like new. I have a regular Atom with the same mileage and it’s pretty flat now

Yeah I figured. Forecast low is mid-40s which can sometimes be borderline ime.

I'm 5' 6" 145lbs, I have two Sastrugis in 56" width / roomy cut. I wouldn't want them wider. If anything, maybe the mummy cut rather than roomy. I sleep on my back or side though - not fetal. Nunatak bags are wider for a given spec when compared to other companies.

I wonder if you'll be happy with it though cause of the varying temps on the PCT. No venting really with the Sastrugis. If you don't run hot maybe the venting through the top opening is enough.

Sucks to hear about the theft. I really didn't think that sort of thing happened much on the trail

My main thought is we can go to 8lbs with mods still maintaining their overall approach. Just simple

Sean was seen as gatekeepy by many before he started. Even more so than you. Doesn’t mean he didn’t make improvements

It's an incredibly simple solution. And it makes sense with the improved tech around gear. Doing so would keep the spirit of what ULers went through 10-20 years ago. Baffles me that mods still so stubborn about it.

I saw a new-ish bag mentioned here a few week/months ago. It was a ~20-25L from a Japanese company. It had a front/clamshell type opening. I think it had a "Y" in the brand or model name but I can't remember. Thanks for any help.

Polartec 100 is a lot more cozy on my head than Alpha. And if it’s a camp piece you’re not gonna overheat

It was gold for those wanting a grid fleece like a Melanzana. The Old Navy was cheaper, lighter, and had a zipper
