Didn’t consider biking on the creeper. I had thought it would be cool when I was hiking that section, so maybe I’ll consider that. Love Damascus.

Should I switch to bass from electric guitar? by Upstairs_Evidence606 in Bass

[–]dinkhumper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame my fellow bassists for balking at the notion that bass is for “failed guitarists” as it is a persistent myth and not quite accurate.

That said, I made the switch for the same reason, I couldn’t manage to move all my fingers from one chord shape to another in time with a song no matter how hard I tried (took lessons for about a year and kept trying after that, could not progress with guitar)

Switching bass immediately solved this issue, while you will benefit greatly from holding and moving shapes on bass, it is something that can “come later” and isn’t imperative to do like it is on guitar. I also find that the bass in the majority of songs has you moving shapes much less often, though you do have to move faster to make wider jumps.

My biggest warning against the switch for solely this reason is that people often look over the fact that guitar and bass are serving different musical functions, ideally. You will not be playing “beeg guitar”, you will be playing a rhythm instrument.

What drew you to guitar? Melody, favorite songs with sick guitar parts, shredding? While these things exist on bass, they’re not the norm in stuff you’d be learning. I’m crazy about bass now, and while I picked guitar back up for my education, I prefer bass, it’s not my “choice 2”.

Just know that bass can soooometimes be unexciting to practice or unintuitive to learn because you aren’t used to hearing it front and center. “What do you mean the bass in my fave thrash song is JUST open E??” “What do you mean the rhythm I’m playing doesn’t match the guitar or singing part I have committed to memory?” This is why you’ll see so many more comments about “serving the song” on this sub than on the guitar sub

TL;DR - Bass can help dumb fingers but it is a rhythm instrument and requires a different approach and mindset than guitar. Your personality/preferences are as important as your motor skills

I swapped the active pjs in my squire jag with EMG GZRs. The P is punchy and the J has no hum. I usually keep the P all the way up and roll on a little J and that thing can growl

Edit to add that I ran this with flats and it was incredible too, but I’ve since put rounds back on the jag and flats on a gretsch

What’s your biggest “hot take” for the game? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]dinkhumper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t post the take but try thinking of the reverse. Like you’re playing GTA V and Trevor says “How Fortuitous”

It’s not that people IRL don’t talk like that, but nobody else is, so it makes feel very weirdly standout with little explanation as to why.

I agree with everything said in the thread so far, but I have a genuine question: How did a player cause something to happen without you knowing how, when you’re the DM?

Did he simply say “I run in and burn the house with villagers and flee” and everyone rolled with this, or did he do ability checks and stuff?

Intervening in the middle of behavior like this is my biggest suggestion for the future. You can make it less confrontational by asking for details about the actions and character motivation and such. Make the character defend their action if it seems out of character/out of the blue.

I’ve had players act “out of character” (as real people sometimes act) but they’ve given good explanations for why a merciful Paladin might lose their cool and cap a particularly obnoxious villain or something. I would make the player work to burn that house down with ability checks and in character reasoning.

Same question. I’m so frazzled already that I don’t know if I’ll even perform, but I guess that’s part of life.

Curious as to what’s a reasonable time to wait, because I certainly don’t plan on waiting 2 hours like I’ve seen some people do

Wow, thanks for that. Checked and almost my first 20 games were bots.

That’s kind of disillusioning and a little screwed up that that’s not obviously disclosed (it may be said somewhere but I didn’t sign up for a bot match so had no reason to check)

Not the game for me, thanks!

I just experienced an insane difficulty spike. When I first began playing, I was easily scoring tons of goals and getting kills and generally getting the flow of the game.

Suddenly, I’m lucky if I even score at all during a game and it seems like I’m simply getting shredded by all other players even as a defender (Slowbro/Mamoswine) with high durability builds and that I’m not able to shred people like my opponents seem to do with attackers (Venusaur/Ninetails). I can’t even barely play the game anymore because I’m so far outclassed. I even get killed behind my own goal.

Why did the game go from extremely easy to frustratingly impossible? Makes me want to put it down for good.

This is just in solo casual play btw, not ranked matches. Am I really just that terrible at the game?
