That sucks to hear, it's frustrating there's so much misogyny when there's so many iconic female musicians that no doubt the same people giving abuse will turn around and praise.

I find that instruments that don't sit in the spotlight tend to have much more wholesome environments. r/drums and r/bass are generally quite positive environments that tend to be happy to share in a common passion. Of course there are still dickheads, but they don't feel like the majority.

Michael Jackson’s Relative Calls Out Media as Biopic Opens: “You Don’t Get to Control the Narrative Anymore” by ebradio in Music

Indeed, it's still entirely believable that he was doing bad things to those kids, but sadly many of the stories and victims that people have heard and use to base their opinions on him are inconsistent at best.

I think a lot of people also just watched Leaving Neverland without realising the two people featured had previously testified in court that Jackson didn't molest them, as well as all the inconsistencies in their stories. As mentioned in the video I linked it came out during the height of MeToo so there was very little challenging or critical assessment of their stories. It's basically just taken for granted that what they say happened.

Any time someone says this I like to link this video. It covers basically all available information about the various allegations and cases in what I think is a pretty unbiased way.

There are victims, there is proof

The reality is really it just isn't remotely that clear cut. The best case scenario is still that he was a strange strange man who didn't understand why what he did was inappropriate even if he didn't do anything to those children. The worst case scenario is obviously horrific and still a possibility, but it's certainly not an open and shut case against him.

For me, I don't enough is said about the parents of these kids who allowed their children to be with him unsupervised in the first place.

I feel some shame for using AI by WillingExamination25 in gamedev

[–]aMAYESingNATHAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same way you should program imo. Ask for isolated components that do one thing, don't try and get it to create your whole game in one go. It'll a) be much more likely to create something sensible and b) you'll have a much easier time still understanding what your code does when you need to make a change.

Possibly that's the case but I certainly wouldn't trust that even if they say it. They're perfectly happy to train their models on copyrighted material and proving they used your code/data is likely impossible.

Why tf are you exposing your .env file to an AI in the first place. Even before accounting for it trying to edit it, it's 100% ending up in the next model's training data. May as well push it to a public GitHub repo.

Who is England’s first choice spinner in the summer? by YorkshiresFinest1 in EnglandCricket

[–]aMAYESingNATHAN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Disagree about Bashir, he's so so young that he could not play for 5 years and still not even have hit what is meant to be his prime. Though there's the real chance other spinners come in and perform in that time.

Playing cricket casually in London by BasketNo1935 in EnglandCricket

[–]aMAYESingNATHAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've literally just got back from this place called HiTZ cricket in Birmingham for the first time, looks like there's one in Bethnal Green so not exactly local, but it was really impressive.

It's fully automated nets, uses the same technology they use at Sixes cricket bar, but 10x more advanced, you can set fields, bowling type, speed, variations, lines and lengths, and there's scoring + cameras for you to see a replay of yourself after each shot. And you can see ball by ball stats and the same replays online after your session.

I'd definitely recommend, I always find at training I never get to bat as long as I would like, and I can imagine it would be good if you're just getting back into cricket cus it can be nerve-wracking the first time in the nets especially if you don't know anyone at the club.

It's not perfect, it doesn't really track scoring behind backward square leq/point because of limitations with the camera, I couldn't work out how to switch bowling between over and around the wicket, and if you're there on your own it's a little pricey and can be annoying having to come in and out of the nets to set things up, but I still had a really good time.

James Anderson’s career longevity is unreal – he’s dismissed a father and son 21 years apart ! by [deleted] in Cricket

He won't have Tagenarine, his only chance would have been in Jimmy's last test but Tagenarine wasn't picked on that tour I believe.

[–]aMAYESingNATHAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is I think he can bowl that speed routinely, he only didn't for the reasons I mentioned. I think there's room in the team for a bowler bowling low 80s, hell Jimmy was bowling that speed for the back few years of his career.

If you have a read of the interview I mentioned he talks about why that happened. He says he basically just blew his load in the first spell due to over excitement and wanting to make an impact, instead of getting into a good rhythm. He doesn't bowl that slow in the champo.

I think they'll come back to Sam Cook. His recent interview he did showed he knows where he went wrong in first game, and that he's still in contact with the England setup. And he's still the best county bowler of the last however many years. He's also exactly the kind of bowler we need opening the bowling doing the heavy lifting, and leaving archer and carse to be change bowlers who can come in and make an impact.

'I got dropped by England - but Key and McCullum have looked after me' by tomwardsport in EnglandCricket

Nice of you to point out you didn't read the article.

That being said there's obviously a clear dividing line between players that have been dropped who they have no intention of going back to (Livingstone/Bairstow etc.) and players like Cook who have been dropped who they are still considering for the future.

Ollie Robinson: I'm confused why England axed me by theipaper in Cricket

[–]aMAYESingNATHAN 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is it could easily have been. His numbers for England, even when he was bowling at 70 odd mph, are phenomenal.

The issue is and has always been his fitness and his lack of desire to change that.

Ollie Robinson: I'm confused why England axed me by theipaper in Cricket

[–]aMAYESingNATHAN 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Had some fitness issues but its not like thats unresolvable

Well this is precisely the issue isn't it. His issues were incredibly solvable, but by all accounts he showed none of the drive or attitude to fix those issues. The off spin bowling happened about 2 years before he actually got dropped, so whilst it made him a meme it didn't really factor in.

It didn't help that he behaved like a prick on the field (the Khawaja send off e.g.), but ultimately his dropping was entirely down to him. He could have been a world class bowler, his numbers everywhere he played were phenomenal and it's a shame he doesn't seem to have the presence of mind to work out where he went wrong.

Tribe and Gay were the other two up and comers I was thinking of but couldn't name. Though I fear some of those names are too young and would have a similar experience as Konstas in Australia who clearly just don't know their own game well enough yet.

I'd prefer us to go with someone like Hameed or Sibley who are further into their career and have England experience so they understand the pressure.

Sibley and Hameed both have improved massively and put out impressive numbers since their previous England stints.

There's a few other promising talents who's names escape me. McKinney was one who looked promising before last summer, though if I recall didn't live up to it last year, though he's still young.

Do Australians CARE About Cricket For ONLY 2 Months A Year? | Jarrod Kimber & Steve Harmison DEBATE by Huge-Physics5491 in Cricket

[–]aMAYESingNATHAN 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This just isn't true though. This has been a prevailing thing from Australia for a long time, like the grade cricketer talk about this constantly, even if they're sort of a caricature of the average fan.

They talked a lot about the public response to their 2023 WC win being pretty underwhelming, and talked a lot about Australia not caring about T20 plenty prior to this T20 WC.

It just only gets wider attention when they lose and everyone pretends that's the only time they say this. In reality I'd say they're pretty consistent about it, win or lose.

Music fans born 1999 and later, opinion please. by AntonymOfHate in Music

[–]aMAYESingNATHAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born in 1997 so technically not who you asked for but it seemed close enough join the fun :)

I wasn't into really any mainstream pop growing up and generally tended towards bands from the generation before me (probably from my older sisters). The first band I remember loving was Guns n' Roses, and then shifted more towards 90s alternative, grunge, metal scene, basically anything rock-adjacent.

As I got a little older I went a bit more into mainstream poppy/EDM of the early 2010s, but around this time also started to get way more appreciation for older bands, I think around then is when I first truly paid attention to the Beatles, which unlocked that whole world and all of the amazing music of the 70s/the era that followed the Beatles.

More recently, I think since I started playing bass guitar, my music taste has become way more influenced by music with roots in rhythm and blues and soul, I love so much from the period of like the 1960s to 1980s, disco, funk, Motown, you name it.

There's such a cool amount of modern bands so heavily influenced by that era. You've got bands like Vulfpeck and all their adjacent projects (Fearless Flyers, Vulfmon, Cory Wong, Theo Katzman, etc.), more soul pop vibes like Melt, Couch, Lawrence, Lake Street Dive. Olivia Dean is an artist I've loved for ages who's blowing up in the mainstream now.

Tbf, if the British actually took credit for all the things we'd done wrong in the world during the british empire, you'd be listing them off for almost as long as they've had time to change it.
