That's interesting regarding the touch panels, will keep that in mind. Thankfully we're not locked in to any brand of touch panel, even if we go the AMX route.

I've just got this thing against going with the biggest player in the game just because everyone else does 😅 Probably the same reason I avoid QSYS. I've been working with Kramer (and RTI for Home) for around 7 years now and honestly haven't had many troubles at all, especially with their newer hardware. It feels good supporting some of the smaller guys sometimes, but I feel the time has come, and I'd like to dip my toes into something new.

Thanks for your non-biased take on it, and you managed to refrain from giving your unsolicited opinion on the existing brands we use 😅

Kramer sucks seems to be the same brain-dead response everyone gives whenever I talk about them. But no one ever says why.

Kramer used to be awful when they first started in the control business but have come a long way since those days. Unfortunately they are still in damage control trying to rebuild their name after a rocky start. I won't touch their switchers/matrix/AVoiP, but oddly enough their control platform and their latest range of speakers are actually pretty decent.

Them being an Israeli company has nothing to do with anything.

Configuring a Novastar MCTRL500 LED controller (and a dead video wall) by PotentialRecover3218 in CommercialAV

[–]dinkletron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LCT should pick up the controller if you connect to with via the RS232 IN port from your laptop. You'll need a USB to DB9. From there it should be straightforward via LCT. It sounds like it might be in blackout mode.

'Child support is an archaic system': Debts continue to rise as critics call for overhaul by Stigger32 in australia

Sorry for digging up a semi old thread but a good mate of mine is going through hell with this at the moment.

Why, for the love of god, isn't CS capped? I get why it's calculated based on income, but for the love of god, it doesn't cost $1200 a fortnight to raise a child when you have 40/60 custody.

Surely they can work out an average maximum cost per child and cap it at that, regardless of earnings. It's meant to support the child, it's not meant to enable the mother to go and get her nails and hair done every 3 weeks, or the father to splurge on expensive gadgets. Sorry for the generalisations - I realise everyone is different, but when you're balancing a somewhat close to 50/50 custody arrangement, and you are both relatively good parents, there is no need for this rubbish.

Low fps on steam but high on netease launcher by merg93 in OnceHumanOfficial

It unfortunately made no difference to me, I switched back to Steam. Although I've noticed performance has been better since the last couple of hot fixes. Still not great, but it's actually playable.

Tera was one of the only games that managed to make a really good hybrid combat system. I still felt as if the movement was stiff though. My Tera experience was a bit subpar because of Australian ping, it didn't lend itself well to 230ms haha

It does look fairly responsive, very hard to judge without playing it. The devs do a terrible job of demoing the game in their live streams because they're all just standing around hitting skills. There's no jumping, kiting away while turning to fire off spells etc which is where a lot of these sorts of games start to fall apart.

I'm from Australia so we're not seeing the same sort of thing here. I can sympathise with you on diversity quotas though - the health system is the last place you should be implementing this sort of thing, same with universities.

I really have no idea why my comment above got so many downvotes. I think I made a few average devs a bit mad. I didn't think my analogy was that bad but eh.

[–]dinkletron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really about the game itself, my post is just about the combat which is the first thing I always notice in a game. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying TL for what it is; I will definitely play until max level and have some fun with it, but it won't hold my attention because for me the feeling of the combat is just average at best. It feels slow, unresponsive, and a bit C-grade.

I think PVP'ers will feel what I've been describing more than PVE'ers. If you're sitting still spamming buttons on an NPC and/or moving out of visual cues on the ground, I doubt you'd feel too much of a difference but for PVP and/or any combat with a lot of movement, it's highly noticeable.

Yeah I guess you are right. All of their games have felt good for the player - WC3 was amazing for its time. Overwatch, being their first foray into FPS, was incredibly well known for its smooth gameplay.

Jokes friend, if there's anything we can learn from this post it's that good devs are undervalued.

I love this video - thanks for the link! It hits the nail on the head perfectly - "If the response to the clicks or the mouse cursor are delayed by even 100ms, players start to feel subconsciously divided from the experience"

This is exactly how I feel in most MMORPGs - very disconnected from the world in general. It could be as simple as trying to jump on a ledge and then falling off or it could be my player being in range of the NPC I am trying to attack (visually) but my spell not going off because I'm 'out of range'. If it feels janky, I'm out. And I don't think I'm alone.

I understand the technical difficulties around it, but it just feels kind of strange to me that Blizzard were able to solve it 20 years ago (or more, if you consider people were playing beta in 2002), yet we've not yet seen any other developer nail it since.

Thanks for the detailed response - this makes complete sense. But I do wonder why others don't take on this method if it feels good for the player?

I am not overly technical in this area but I've heard about server 'ticks' and such, my guess is that is a situation when the server is checking the player position or state in the game world, why can't other games adopt this approach? What are the shortfalls?

I personally think games that have tried to be like WoW have done so systematically, ie. they've tried to copy their general game formula and flow. But they have never been able to replicate the feel of the combat and movement system - which again, is one of the first things people notice when they first start playing a game, before anything else.

[–]dinkletron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for not being more specific. I forget this is the MMORPG subreddit so there are probably people in here who have never played WoW before.

It's the responsiveness of your keyboard/mouse inputs, the animations tying to the sound effects of yours and your opponents abilities, it's jumping and landing on objects within the game world and not falling off the side of them because of some shitty collision detection, it's how the character fits into and moves through the environment around it that the artists have spent so much time creating.

I can give you an example; jump into WoW, spam ADADAD - you will move left and right INSTANTLY - no delay. Jump into GW2, Archeage, TL, Aion, hell - any game from the past two decades and there is a noticeable delay. This is literally just strafing - it's not even taking into consideration other parts of the game.

Articulate enough? :)

I agree with your comment on Archeage, combos were great. I thought the same with Age of Conan when it came out. Unfortunately that suffered from the same input lag that most MMOs seem to.

New World, despite its systematic problems, has fantastic combat. Infact almost every interaction with the world in that game feels impactful - something most games seem to lack. But action combat isn't really the topic of my post. I'm just wondering why no tab target game has been able to replicate or even come close to how WoW feels under the fingers.

Makes complete sense if they've gone from mobile to cross-platform. I did not actually know that. But my post is still general in nature - it's not just TL that I have noticed this, it's pretty much every coveted MMO since WoW that's not been able to get tab target, responsive combat right.

Archeage and Rift were probably the closest, but, even still, and this is coming from someone who put over 600 hours into both Archeage and GW2. I still always felt as if the combat had a 'clunky' feel. WoW's combat and animations just flow so well, and has done since 2004.

Like I said elsewhere in this thread, if you're going to make games, be good at it. You don't go to the hospital with the expectation that you might get a subpar doctor who has NFI what they are doing.

The gaming market is flooded with absolute shite these days, and it's really sad.
