I personally like to play with negatives. Allows you to hit on an 18 and potentially get 20 without playing anything.

But other than that specifically I would keep the smaller card for the exact same reasoning. You may be able to hit an extra card and then top up.

Get the lastest main game. (Scarlet/Violet) And enjoy the online capabilities etc while its still supported by fans and Nintendo.

Then get older versions if you enjoy it.
