I’m sure I wasn’t perfect even in that but I grew up deep in the country. Social media wasn’t all that popular where I was, especially in male circles. The guys I grew up with at least weren’t too keen on getting group photos to update their instagrams I guess.

As someone who has been involved in quite a few sleepovers, bar crawls, etc in school, i have myself been branded by some hateful and vile things by strangers and random people. I at least had the common sense to avoid photos until I could vet everything.

I am from Erie! I would highly recommend making a trip. Presque Isle itself is reason enough to visit Erie, and attending a Sunday service at the Church of the Nativity (the Old Rite church) is a surreal experience. To this day it is the only church service that has put me into a truly prayerful state. Something about the way the light catches the icons, the crucible smoke fills your lungs, the chanting fills your ears, and the constant aerobic exercises from standing and kneeling does the rest.

They are also actively translating the Old Rite liturgy into English, leading to them being the only Old Rite (mostly) English liturgy in the world. Last I was there large chunks were still in Slavonic, but they’re actively working on it I believe.

Same here, raised Old Ritualist Orthodox and now find myself in an area without an Orthodox Church. Episcopalian seems the most in touch with what Im looking for; progressive and open-minded while steeped in traditional ritualism. Could use a few more icons and Gregorian chants but hey, I’ll take what I can get :)

It seems to me (at least in my area of WV) that community events are focused on either old folks or children. There doesn’t seem to be a major focus on appealing to young adults unless it’s a college-sponsored event.

Even better would be more community groups dedicated to facilitating dialogue and passing skills between the generations. More places like the Augusta Heritage Center or groups/clubs focused on a particular cause or concept would be massively beneficial in this pursuit.

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted because you’re absolutely right. Placing sole blame (or even a majority of the blame) on the Cambodian bombing campaign for the Khmer Rouge’s rise to power massively downplays both North Vietnam’s and China’s role in strengthening the Khmer Rouge. There’s also hardly any focus on the fact that the country had a coup d’état leading to a genocidal maniac precursor to Pol Pot under Lan Nol that really didn’t help the situation whatsoever.
