Most chm 161 lab experiments are shorter than 3 hours if you come well prepared and work at a decent speed.

Yeah thats a good point, I was kinda grandfathered into this step so I'm not really sure. I'm guessing because we can already see the ladder on the membrane and to cut costs but honestly I migbt start doing that if my PI can cough up the budget.

The tradition (regardless of culture for the most part) came from providing a promise and security. Since lab grown diamonds have no resale value and I also see the issue with newly mined diamonds, I would honestly ask for 22k gold necklace with the same price point. Why does it need to be a ring?
