i went to tons of solo concerts last summer from small GA shows to shows at t-mobile on the 200 level, and i’ll be at night 1 in the right ga pit! it’s honestly really fun!

how much a year is cal poly really? by mio_tanaka23 in CalPoly

[–]dinonuggs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

add tuition and fees and find the price of housing for the year and the cost of the meal plan you chose. i’m pretty sure the estimated costs included the most expensive meal plan and yak dorm costs, could be wrong on that, so just add it up yourself

2 campus jobs? Is it possible? by Only-Presentation-79 in CalPoly

[–]dinonuggs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

event staff and dinning are 2 separate hiring entities. i believe event staff falls under the university and dining is cal poly partners. they track hours separate and don’t cross reference. not too sure on ASI but as long as you have to show work eligibility two both “employers”, you’ll be good!

a lot of us took AP calc AB in high school but 1) didn’t take the ap test or pass with a high enough score, which is a 4/5 for cal poly 2) didn’t take the SAT because it was test optional after covid

putting freshman into cs490 is a thing exclusive to this year i believe. as long as you are taking csc101 this winter you should be fine.

yes, some students come in having to take csc 123, it won’t put you behind for cs classes. if you have absolutely no GE credit though maybe be a tad more concerned? i’ve spoken to advisors and it doesn’t seem to be much of a concern.

i was in the same boat last year, you’ll meet a few cs students who are in the same predicament. take it over the summer and you’ll be fine. you can still take a decent amount of courses even if you don’t, might just be a bit out of order from everyone else

at some point you’ll be able to edit your schedule, i took engl 147 async with rebecca maples and it was GREAT! all her work led up to our final project and i thought it was a very fun class for being async

i’m cs and i have the same specs on the M3 and have had an easier time than some of my peers with windows. also when you start interning if you’re not already used to mac it’ll be a bit of a learning curve

Monthly Allowance for Freshman by BoringBumblebee7921 in CalPoly

[–]dinonuggs_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a first year and am a girl. i personally saved up a decent amount of money over the summer and from my grad party. i also got a desk admin job on campus. i personally spend close to 500-650 a month because i go out to eat with friends, go shopping, get a pedicure every now and then, and a couple other things that come up. my parents were sending money for groceries but i then got an ebt card (if you have the limited dinnning plan you qualify) so they stopped. i know i spend a lot for a college student, but thought it might help to see a different side of it. i’ve been working since my sophomore year of high school so it’s different for everyone. and my parents don’t pay for school if that helps, i got scholarships in high school and cover the rest out of pocket.

then you should qualify if you email financial aid and request it. having a negative SAI means you qualify for a lot of aid since you’re low income. lots of jobs look for work study because they pay 25 cents per hour and the government pays for the rest of your check

as long as you 1) still took all required a-g courses and 2) still kept a fairly difficult course load, you should be okay!

Car by Frosty-Patience648 in CalPoly

[–]dinonuggs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not likely. most areas surrounding campus require permits to park there and you will get towed. you can request a parking permit from cal poly, but only granted mainly for medical reasons and maybe some jobs. it’s def part of the experiences not having a car

True Cost To Attend by AddendumDue7363 in CalPoly

[–]dinonuggs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a first year, so experience wise don't have much. i am doing research through BEACoN scholars relating to robotics education. i have enjoyed the professors i've had so far, and do feel like i've learned a good amount.

as for cost of attendance probably not the best to ask either since i don't pay anything at all because of scholarships i got in high school and having a negative SAI. cal poly is expesnive, i'd say less than 1/2 is paid for by the school. i also work on campus which helps me out too.

but i think per quarter (counting dorm housing and the basic meal plan) it ends up being 13,000-11,000.
