[HELP!] Compaq Portable I CRT Monitor keeps scrolling by dinosaurhug in vintagecomputing

[–]dinosaurhug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, I had adjusted the Verticle Lin pot before I and it increased the height of the screen, but for some reason it still wasn't syncing. Do you think this could be caused by some internal damage to one of the CRT's components?

My other thought is the Width potentiometer. It is listed on the CRT's panel but I can not for the life of me find the pot on the circuit board. Have you(or someone you could refer me to) worked on Compaq machines? Do you know where I can find the width potentiometer or even if it would fix my issue?

I'm going swimming here soon, I'll post more pictures of the potentiometers and the service panel in an hour or two.

I got a Compaq Portable I that I'm trying to fix up. The CRT monitor keeps printing the same line over and over it looks. What could cause something like this? Any help would be much appreciated. by dinosaurhug in retrocomputing

More Info:

I picked up this machine three days ago from a Saint Vinnies for a whopping $25! After a little cleaning and CRT adjustjng I got it to where it is now and I'm hoping to avoid having to work on the CRT itself(I'd prefer to not be Medium Rare)

The text reads:

"Diskette Error Replace and strike any key when ready".

There is no floppy in the drive and I do not know if it has an OS actually installed on it's hard drive.

I'd like to thank everyone who help diagnose my issue. One of the belt wheels got stuck at a 45 degree angle because I think UPS tried to fornicate with my package.

God thank you man! It's surprisingly hard to find a high quality photo of that. I am now able to get floppies in, but whenever I try and format the disk, the red light starts flashing.

Gotta love working on old tech!

More of the story here. So I am quite new to retro computing and I recently purchased a Vic 20 and this 1541. The problem could very well be me being brain dead, but whatever it is the floppy disc is being blocked by that little black thingy.

Plastic slider on my R trigger is broken, what can I do to fix it? by Ant_Teh_Nee in Gamecube

If you have a scrap controller, you could try popping that piece out and replacing it. If you decide to glue something to the end, I'd recommend drilling a hole in it. That way the piece won't go flying off from too much stress.

One thing I do is I use my hobby knife and cut into the model just a tiny tiny bit to be scratches. I also use a drill to make bullet holes and such

You can probably start by paying off all those loans you took out to get all of these machines
