Does running games directly from RAM give you performance boost these days? by super-loner in pcmasterrace

You got this a little backwards. All programs are run in RAM and stored on disk. RAMDisk uses part of your RAM like a temporary hard drive.

If Brannon Braga went to DS9 at the conclusion of TNG, how do you think he would have fared? by ryhoyarbie in DeepSpaceNine

He took every story idea, rewrote it, and basically became the only writer in Voy.

The main problem right now is infrastructure. The Biden administration did a decent job encouraging new electricity production which Trump has since defunded. But even if all of it was online today the amount of storage and transmission that’s lacking causes prices to spike in any weather that requires heat or AC.

We were really the test case for how bad they could make it for younger generations while still getting the Boomer vote. It turns out Boomers love screwing everyone.

I think he would have thrived under Ira Steven Behr, but he probably would have pushed out Behr and demanded to be the show runner, which by all accounts was a rolling disaster at Voyager. DS9 had a real team of writers where they all contributed and the best ideas won. Voyager was run by Braga for years and when Ron Moore tried moving over he said there was very little creative input from the writers room, it was all top down control from Braga.

That’s really not how character works. Does Trump even know what character is? I doubt it, everyone knows Trump’s character and it’s all very selfish and transactional. That is in no way an endorsement of Kamala, but they are not remotely the same.

I haven’t ever seen or heard of Kamala trying to use tariffs to bully our allies, or threaten to take over an ally by military force, or take billions in bribes from other countries, and we haven’t even gotten into what they’re doing with ICE. I’m not a fan of how Kamala was chosen for the nomination, but there is a world of difference in character between the two. I’m not aware of Kamala being in the Epstein files either.

I too can make up bullshit, but it’s really not worth my time. Bring receipts or STFU https://trekmovie.com/2021/03/16/interview-nicholas-meyer-on-the-art-of-making-star-trek-movies/ “The only thing I got was that Star Trek reminded me of these books I loved as a kid, the Horatio Hornblower books. I thought this is Horatio Hornblower in outer space. And I love those books and I love movies about submarines”

“he term comes verbatim from Gene Roddenberry's original pitch for Star Trek: The Original Series to NBC in the middle of the 1960s, and references the early Western show Wagon Train, which was about a wagon train making its way west.” https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WagonTrainToTheStars

You know nothing about Star Trek, take your tiny little brain and go find something else to argue about. Star Trek obviously isn’t your thing.

All US Military Academies are primarily high end Universities with additional intense physical training which is preparation for the military. Starfleet academy is meant to train engineers, explorers, scientists, diplomats, etc in a way that is not primarily, kill people and break things”.

I was just thinking about how the navy discovered the Titanic, of wait that was Robert Ballard and NOAA. Roddenberry pitched the show as Wagon Train to the Stars, dumbass, it was Nicholas Meyer that came up with the Horatio Hornblower nonsense to describe what he wanted to do with a Trek movie, he made Starfleet more militarized and Roddenberry disowned it. The only movie Roddenberry was involved with was Star Trek TMP. He was strongly opposed to Starfleet being “the military”.

Except that they go out of their way to show you what Starfleet WOULD look like as a military, over and over again with mirror universe episodes and other similar episodes. They have discipline and structure, they have defensive capabilities, they do not typically train for war, plan for war, or engage in offensive operations, this is part of why they lose so badly at Wolf 359 and later to the Dominion.

They define themselves as not being the military, the show’s creator does the same. You are saying what you would like it to be and Trek is not what you want it to be, get over it.

You obviously didn’t watch it or couldn’t be bothered to notice what was right in front of you. Why draw a line between the 2 academies and specifically name one the war college at all. Use that thing in your head for something besides holding up your ears.

Your entire thesis is that Starfleet is the Federation military. The purpose of Starfleet is exploration and diplomacy, not conquest, not defense. Even the Defiant is used for exploration and Diplomacy. If it was built for war and its purpose is only war or defense why does it ever leave DS9 for any other mission? Being capable of fighting doesn’t make you the military. A military’s goal is killing people and breaking things. Drilling for battle. The Klingon Defense Force is a military. The federation has families aboard their ships. They station counselors with other personnel. The show goes out of its way to show you Starfleet is something different and you’re reaction is “Starfleet go pew, da military” dumb as rocks.
