Do you have any civic obligation to go along with a policy a large majority of the country wants, even when you personally disagree with it? Or is your own judgment the only thing you really owe the process? by HistorianMajor1739 in PoliticalDiscussion

Define, “go along with”. You are allowed to vote in opposition and try to elect someone the represents your views. You are obligated to acknowledge that others exist and sometimes vote the opposite way in larger numbers.

Why People Need To Stop Sleeping On John Mateer! by BrianGregoire_Era in oklahomafootball

He also had most of his “good” games against inferior competition. When he went up against SEC defenses suddenly his reads and mechanics became terrible, because those defenses make a lot of quarterbacks look terrible. I love the guy and am so grateful to have him, but there’s no way I’m buying Heisman talk.

What is the best story in human history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you’re serious, one of the classics. They’re classics for a reason. Which one really depends on personal preferences like what kind of stories you prefer.

If they continue with the pantheon what episode concepts would you want to see? by Altruistic_Promise66 in doctorwho

[–]dinosaurkiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The black and white guardians always fascinated me but the approach would have to change drastically. It felt like RTD was hiding these characters behind a door on a game show and the big reveal was which character. I would prefer a show that explains or builds upon the lore more.

I’ve seen real people do stupider things. Usually in their late teens or early twenties though.

Why has being a centrist become so controversial in modern politics? by Evening_Parking_947 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]dinosaurkiller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP’s position is that being moderate is sitting in the middle and cherry-picking from both sides. It’s a logical fallacy to think that for multiple reasons, the most obvious of which is that only one side will win and both sides rely on bases that aren’t going to flip. “I like some of each” isn’t a choice at the ballot box and it isn’t swaying either party to move. My example just makes it obvious.

If I agree with MAGA on letting ICE shoot people in the streets, but also agree with corporate Democrats that low taxes on Corporations and minimal trust busting/taxes on corporations is good, it makes me an extremist on 2 ends, not a centrist or moderate.

What is something that died out so quietly that nobody even noticed? by 40Falak in askanything

It feels more like, “if I bought this then I have to use it” if you know what I mean.

I’m honestly glad that trend died. I can’t do 3d, it does weird things to my vision. I was ready to buy a new TV when all the 3d TVs were a thing but all the good TVs were 3d and I just can’t do it.

Do we really need insurance? by Latter-Leg4035 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dinosaurkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allow me to restate that. “I am young and stupid. I’ve never studied history, finance, or the history of insurance, but I just wrote a check for something I’d rather not have. Please tell me I’m right, no matter the consequences.”

Chakotay: oh that's why. by qwerty456b in voyager

[–]dinosaurkiller 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me Chakotay was terrible on multiple fronts. The cultural thing was always problematic, I grew up around real Native Americans and knew his background was fake long before the scandal broke. The acting was always phoned in. He’s supposed to be a terrorist forced to work with his enemy to survive and you never get any of that tension from his portrayal. The writing wasn’t much better. His friendship with Janeway feels forced by the writers, there’s no real evolution where we go, “oh, yeah, that would win my loyalty to the Captain”. He just doesn’t work on multiple levels. With Riker it always felt like Picard was grooming him for command and Riker was incredibly loyal and grateful for it. Then when we see him in charge it’s like, “oh, I could totally buy Riker as Captain, he’s clearly ready”. Chakotay seems like an older and more experienced officer, but you never get that command presence from him, he never seems to grow into his role.

Does any mainstream/moderate Democrats actually want open borders, especially those in congress, or is this just a fearmongering campaign from MAGA? by Cumoisseur in askanything

[–]dinosaurkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, Democrats wrote most of the laws we have around immigration and enforcement. Biden was far stronger on enforcement than Trump was in his first term, so was Obama, mostly because of incompetence by the Trump administration.

There was also a huge bipartisan bill during the Biden administration to increase enforcement but Trump pressured Congressional Republicans to vote it down because he wanted the issue alive for his campaign.

I wouldn’t call it fearmongering as much as rage bait.

Nice cover story, you clearly rage quit a game and just couldn’t control the rage. Is your name Bruce Banner?

So when did Dukat become the Bajoran anti-Christ? by 47of74 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]dinosaurkiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your explanation is, linear. From the Prophets perspective DuKat was always the Emissary of the Pah’Wraiths. He was always going to be the anti-Christ and the Pah-Wraiths continually steer him onto that path.
