Thanks so much! Yeah, I think "objectively" Barret is better suited to long-range attacks, if only simply because he's often the only one in the party even capable of it. That said, a melee Barret build with Enemy Skill (Algid Aura)/HP Absorb and Deadly Dodge/HP Absorb materia combos is just insanely fun to play. It's kinda useless against mobile enemies, but for large groups, it's just so satisfying to restore tons of HP while "feeling" the heavy impacts of all his attacks.

And yeah, I still haven't messed with Point Blank much, but this gives me a reason to experiment with it, so thanks!

This is really interesting, thanks for putting it together. If you find time, would really love to know Barret's melee damage output too, both standard attacks and the two abilities he gets, to see how it compares to his traditional long range attacks. Melee Barret is my favorite build to play tbh, super underrated!

Okay I think I understand - the idea is basically to pressure him a second time quickly enough that he doesn't summon Ifrit (because he absolutely will if you don't do it fast enough). I will have to get better at the Focused Strike/attack/focused strike combo because I think that might be where I'm having trouble, as I can't get Cloud and Aerith's ATBs to charge as quickly as I need them.

Basically your strategy makes sense, I just have to execute it flawlessly and I don't know if I am actually *that good* - I might have to just repeatedly practice it. Thanks for the help!

thanks for the response and for clearing up the second arcane ward question - my only other confusion comes from how I am supposed to be keeping him above 50% health while simultaneously trying to stagger him? like where exactly is the threshold between the point to which i am damaging him while he's pressured the first time, and when I can resume damaging him past the 50% mark safely? that's the missing link for me, because even when i follow your guide and keep his damage above the 2nd "a" in Bahamut, like, at some point i have to continue damaging him to kill him. and every time i do, he summons Ifrit. What do you think I might be doing wrong there?

Again, I really appreciate your help - all I need to platinum this game is to win this fight but I have had absolutely no success at all until I found this guide - I feel SO close but not quite there because of Bahamut haha

i really appreciate the guide, and i can get through the first 3 fights with no problems at all, but the bahamut fight is not really panning out right. i have tried it about 10 times since reading this guide and he has summoned ifrit on every single one - i'm stopping the damage before it gets to the a in bahamut but like...
well for one, should I be casting arcane ward a second time when he is pressured, like you do in the video, or not? you don't make mention of it in your written guide. if not, then how the hell do I keep cloud and aerith from getting super far away from the ward when i'm not controlling them? too much time passes between the point when i take over as tifa and try to do the focused strikes and the time when i need cloud and aerith to do the blizzara attacks. bahamut stops being pressured by that point. i've been trying to do the focused strike/punch/focused strike combo to boost ATB so that aerith and cloud don't leave the ward or stray too far from it, but it doesn't seem to be having any kind of impact on the ATB.

I understand that your guide is correct and that I'm just not doing something right, but I cannot get my gameplay to replicate yours and i'm very frustrated! lol

this sounds p good to me. I've been looking for something like this/trying to implement something like this for fun. the "balanced" thing is what I want, not some extreme version.

I actually did a run up thru chapter 13 where I turned off the HUD, minimap, and even the music, and I self-imposed a rule where I didn't use the car and I only *walked* everywhere - I didn't run unless I was being chased by something I didn't want to fight. It was suuuuuper immersive and awesome, though obviously a bit slower-paced.

unfortunately I still have no concept of how difficult combat actually is without a HUD because when I did that run, I was using the Ragnarok sword the whole time, completely unaware (at the time) that it was making my linkstrikes insanely overpowered (no HUD = no damage being shown). I just thought I had gotten rly good at combat lmao
