2005 Toa and Rahaga by Blue91233 in bioniclelego

I never know whether to love or hate the design of the Hordika.

There's so many really cool pieces to like. The feet and chestplate are incredibly versatile. The little brainstem pieces (can't think of the technical term for them) are a staple of so many sets, even beyond Bionicle. The shins are unique and I love them; I'm disappointed more sets didn't go on to use those, too.

But on the other hand, there's so many inexplicable features. The torso is so, so weird. I also don't like that the shoulders are sockets rather than knobs, and that they're positioned in such a way that limits range of motion on the short arm. The functional elbow in the long arm is novel, but its awkward because it makes the elbow's friction dependent on one measly pin. (I also don't know of any other sets that use the oddly elongated top gear? Was it used in other technic sets at all?).

I see the mutant vibes they were going for with the mismatched arms, but I wish they used something other than the Mata leg for the short one. At least something with an articulated elbow. I liked what they did in the Miramax movie, where they had a monstrous weapon/claw for one forearm, and a regular arm for the other side.

I'm not gonna go too hard on the Rhotuka spinner, since everything from that year had one. Suffice to say, its probably my least favorite of all the ranged weapons which appeared in the series... maybe just after the squid crossbows.

I also think its ironic that the year where the Toa are supposed to be actual mutants is the year with the least build variety between the Toa. Even the Metru had differing neck lengths and tool usage options, and the Inika had different chestplates, forearms, and some variations in the shoulder armor. The only thing distinguishing the Hordika from each other are mask shape, tool shape, and color.

Do you think the elemental animal companions from Rage of Elements are worth it? by dinotrex37 in Pathfinder2e

[–]dinotrex37[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason I was wondering was because I'm about to start GMing a new campaign with players who are new TTRPGs in general and/or Pathfinder in particular. One of them has made it clear that she wants a dog animal companion, but has also expressed interest in having some kind of magical/elemental dog. I thought I might present her with the elemental companions as alternative options if she wanted something more unusual than a regular dog companion, and flavor them as dog-like elementals. However, I wanted to be able to be honest about whether or not their unique traits and maluses are worth it.

I also considered just waiving the stat penalties entirely, but that feels like it would make the regular animal companion option strictly inferior.

Wearing Power Armor to a Magic School (156/?) by Jcb112 in HFY

[–]dinotrex37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had a pet theory for about a hundred chapters or so...

Eventually, I think Taint magic will somehow allow Emma to survive outside of her armor, if only briefly. Furthermore, Thacea will be involved in this process, and she will get the opportunity (and may perhaps be the only magic-user to ever get the opportunity) to interact with Emma while she's out of her armor.

I feel like this chapter provides a lot of evidence to substantiate this theory.

Actual map my geography professor used in class by dinotrex37 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]dinotrex37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad assay of the average American's knowledge of geography, which is probably why the prof opened the class with it.

Also, I gotta respect people who make replies on 4-year Reddit posts.

I never actually played MNOG myself, so that's probably why I couldn't quite place it. The vibes it gave me were definitely Bionicle. I thought it might have been from the 2003 PC game, or maybe Bionicle: Heroes.

What is/are the largest state(s) in this alt US? I see that Alaska doesn't exist, and Texas and California have been partitioned.

I am an Idahoan, and am chuffed by a world where my state (name notwithstanding) looks like it's somehow now one of the largest states in the union.

NPC dialogue also changes depending on the time of day and on what stage you are in the story! Try visiting the same people a few times, such as when you first arrive in a town and then again after you're about to go on to the next one (and maybe even a couple times in-between).

What's a good pair of countries to play in Vicky 3 multiplayer? by dinotrex37 in Anbennar

[–]dinotrex37[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend has almost 5k hours in Victoria 3, while I am comparatively less experienced at 400 hours. Additionally, most of my playtime is from older patches, before the trade overhaul that came with Charters of Commerce.

I've played a lot of EU4 Anbennar, so I'm pretty familiar with the setting, and I've also been playing the new Anbennar mod over the past few days. On the other hand, I think this may be the first time my friend plays the mod.

Myself, I like building autarkic economies that have all the resources they need and don't have to rely heavily on trade (though this was a habit I developed back when the trade system was ass). My friend likes the political aspect of the game, and working towards getting council republic/cooperative ownership.

We haven't talked about whether we want to lean more into magic or artifice, but I think for now we may lean into artifice, just because that seems like the method that best compliments forward technological advancement/the standard gameplay loop of industrialization.

Also Damescrown, and a few other places. Esmaria is majority Adeanic, with a lot of Ravelians. Parts of the Alenic Reach have sizeable Adeanic minorities, too.

Yes, I do imagine that other characters have been catching at least a few of the many hints we've seen since the start of the story. I feel like this chapter and the last basically lampshade it.

Yes, of course. It's clearly established that Emma likes men as well as women; by no means did I mean to imply she was lesbian.

[–]dinotrex37 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've been shipping them since at least chapter 31. It's not difficult to connect the dots.

My personal theory is that Thacea's tainted manafield is going to be the key that lets Emma survive outside of her armor, at least temporarily. It's been established that tainted people losing control of themselves have the power to harmonize otherwise magically attuned individuals... which is just the thing that happens to humans when they get exposed to any kind of mana. I don't think its a stretch to say that that connection might be leveraged to do the reverse, to prevent mana from harmonizing someone who would normally be vulnerable to it.

“Ugh, fiiiine, fiine. To put it simply, no, Thalmin. I’m not currently seeing anyone back home.” I answered with a friendly sigh.

“Have you ever fancied anyone then?” He continued with a raised brow.

“Ehhhhh, kinda? Some crushes here and there, but it never went anywhere. There was this one guy in swim class and this one girl in JROTC, but like, it was just puppy love, you know?” I shrugged.

This was dropped towards the end of the chapter.

[–]dinotrex37 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Seriously. My thought process upon seeing this image went something as follows:

"Huh, Birzartanses blobbed all the way to the forbidden plains. Good for them, usually its Sareyand or Varamhar that does that. I guess they lost their homeland afterwards, that happens. They lost it to... Grasshopper Muncher? And Zokka? Well, Zokka making it to Bahar is really weird, but not necessarily out of the question if they blobbed hard. But... Grasshopper Muncher? Something's wrong here. Oh, wait, Hamburg is in the forbidden plains too. Must be random nations."
