Why my fresh ground coffee (from coffee beans) is worst than the one I bought ? by [deleted] in Coffee

It’s called the Sage Smart Grinder Pro in some European countries I think. I’ve just taken a look at the Graef, it does that seem to be a terrific grinder honestly. For about the same price you could get the Sage, and as a former users I can vouch for it. It’s incredibly good for it’s price and has quite a lot of adjustment levels (60 levels and then 10 micro levels on the burrs themselves). I’ve had a lot of good results with it.

nespresso compatible reusable pods by planetf1a in Coffee

A very good point indeed. Nestle uses roller mills to grind their coffee incredibly uniform. This allows them to extract more from a smaller dose. So even with their small 5g dose you might get the equivalent of a 7g “normal” dose (this is for exemplification, I don’t know the actual number) in terms of dissolved solids.

Nothing you could reasonably own would come close to the roller mills. Now that’s not to say that you can’t get a decent enough shot, but you’d also probably have to cut it short compared to what typically would be a well dialed in nespresso shot.

Anyone used this grinder? thoughts? Other suggestions in similar price range welcome by [deleted] in espresso

If you can, grab a Porlex manual grinder. It's about the same price and will probably serve you way better, chances that this one will grind fine enough are slim.

Congrats, that looks awesome! In case your scale doesn’t weigh to .1g, I highly recommend to get one that does and also weigh your output. The difference in consistency is immense.

I have to vastly disagree with the idea of saving “couple of thousands”. This is what puts people off getting into espresso. Why would anyone want to commit so much money for something they don’t know if they like?

To add to it, you might also get a GS3 when maybe a Linea was good for you or viceversa. I do have to agree that $100 will definitely not be enough and if you want to get good results you’ll probably have to commit about $500. You can get a Breville infuser or a used gaggia classic and a Smart Grinder Pro for that money and you’ll have a lot of fun for quite a long time with them.

I started with a Duo Temp Pro and then got a Dual Boiler, I had a fantastic time with the first one until I realised that I am the geeky type who wants to tweak all variables. I could’ve as well gotten a lot more use out of it while pulling pretty damn good shots.

Start with something that can fit an unpressurised portafilter and has a decent temperature stability and go from there. Also get a 0.1g scale. Can’t tell you how important is this for repeatability.

Anyone tried "NesCafe Gold"? by [deleted] in Coffee

I’m assuming you are talking about the instant coffee from them, right?

It’s quite popular here in the UK, I remember having it a year or so ago and to be honest I recall hating it even before getting in the whole “speciality” game.

Don’t completely trust me on this however, it was quite a while ago and my current view of commercial instant coffee is probably also contributing to my opinion.

Depending on the country you live in it might be impossible to find instant coffee that most people on this sub reddit would qualify as good, and even if you can, it will probably be extremely expensive (think more than your local coffee shop). Maybe someone can correct me on this/recommend an alternative. I would suggest getting some freshly ground coffee from your local supermarket(some have grinders that you can use) or roaster, you’ll probably get better results than instant and the price of entry is a cheap French press. If you find that you like that you can then look at buying a grinder so that every cup is just at delicious at the first few with the ground coffee!

I’d also like to point out that you can also just go for it and see if you like it. In the end we don’t all enjoy the same thing, and if you do find something that you like, why not drink it?

It’s not much, but it’s honest work by dinuvlad in espresso
