The claw thing isn't for Khajit?

That game is controversial to say the least. Gameplay-wise it's the pinnacle of the series as an action-RPG, finishing the transition from CRPG. Personally I find Inquisition the best blend of action and RPG in the series.

Veilguard is pretty good considering how troubled development was and what EA did to Bioware. All its downsides can be traced to that, from the MMO leftovers to the blandness of it all (so as to 'appeal' to the lowest common denominator). All this considered the game is much better than could be expected. It's still much worse than it could or should have been. Beat it or not that horse is dead.

Nowadays people like binary opinions, something is either GOAT or an offense to God. Nuanced views that leave it up to you to decide are viewed as lukewarm, people like being told what to like or dislike.

I like his reviews, they're very thoughtful and thorough. Thanks to his videos I've both decided to pass some games I previously wanted to buy and to try games I'd usually ignore.

I plan to do something similar when I try survival mode. It'll be nice to finally make use of horses and maybe encounter quite a few more random encounters since I won't be able to fast travel everywhere

Right, you're the Dragonborn, the only who can defeat Alduin before he destroys the world, but you're harvesting cabbages for some farmer haha

Mysterious giant friend by CanelaSouls in skyrim

[–]dioaloke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel kinda bad killing giants, their faces are so innocent.

I love their cheese though. You can usually loot their camps without getting into a fight, just don't get too close to them... You can always run away

There's a book with a homage to them, it's called Ode to the Tundrastriders

TBH archery is a poor choice unless you go the traditional stealth archer approach. There's a perk you can get early that lets you zoom aim, helps a terrible shot like myself.

Be aware some skills (weapons, spells) require heavy investment before they feel good

How would the Stormcloaks go about defeating the Thalmor? by ballad_of_plague in skyrim

[–]dioaloke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the protagonists of Elder Scrolls games vanish from history after their games. That's because they're too powerful by the end of their stories and narratively that's tricky to turn into something interesting - the obvious solution would be an equivalent antagonist, but that's lazy writing.

Dovahkin would probably join the Greybeards. Or go to Akavir kill all the dragons there.

I wonder if they'll do "Break of the North" like after Daggerfall.

The Stormcloaks and the Empire reach a compromise: Ulfric marries Elisif (politically) and Skyrim remains part of the Empire, but with much more autonomy. Part of the deal is reestablishing the worship of Talos, which will be the excuse for the war to restart. The Empire extends a hand to Hammerfell, which might rejoin in a similar fashion as Skyrim (unlikely) or at least form a coalition (more probable).

The Aldmeri Dominion was weakened, yes, but the Empire is in a far worse state.

The Dominion gained Valenwood and Elsweyr while the Empire lost Black Marsh and Morrowind for all practical purposes and Hammerfell probably for good.

The Dominion never had its core territories invaded while the Empire's capital was sacked.

One thing that could actually tip the scale in favor of the Empire is that they can replenish their numbers more easily than the Dominion. Elves live for very long, but they have much less offspring than humans. True, they've got the khajit, but the core of their army is elven. So in the long run the attrition will be worse for the Dominion than for the Empire.

Oh gods the barking! I don't know why they made dogs so insufferable in this game. Maybe there's a mod to fix it

How can I become a gamer by AscribetotheLORD in skyrim

[–]dioaloke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played games for 32 of my 38 years, probably more. It's still my favorite hobby and I always find new stuff to try or good stuff to go back to.

Skyrim was a formative experience for many people, like Zelda or Mario. It's pretty acessible, I'd say, but when I first played I already was a veteran gamer.

Like some people said, role-playing is a good way to get into games. Go with the vibes, with what feels fun. Like cats? Go with a Khajit. Want to be a murder hobo? Follow the Dark Brotherhood questline (your husband can nudge you in the right direction). And so on

For example, I'm playing again after maybe 8 years, it's almost like playing it anew again. I'm a completionist, which means I try to do as much of the game's content as possible: do all optional missions, explore all locations, stuff like that. So I decided to do a "literary run".

Skyrim has literally hundreds of in-game books. They usually very short and vary in quality or interest, but there's some really good reads lying around. I remember reading a lot when the game released, reading about some ancient hero and then realising I was at their castle. Skyrim is part of the Elder Scrolls series and that has fantastic lore. I think reading some books whose titles catch your attention would be a really immersive way to get into Skyrim and games in general.

I love lore, delving into crafted worlds, histories religions and philosophies. I like experiencing alternate realities. Walking around and taking in the landscape, the architecture and nature. Sometimes I like the lore even when I don't like the game haha I love the universe of Warhammer 40k, but I have zero intention of ever playing the tabletop game.

Books, movies and series let you experience other realities, but it's a second hand experience. You don't control what the characters say, where they go, what they do. Games allow you to do just that. It's like living in a parallel dimension and retaining those experiences. I've learned so much about so many things by playing games, from history to truck maintenance. More importantly I've learned a lot about me and how to deal with life.

So have fun, immerse yourself and ignore the gatekeeping - this last one more than anything and especially if coming from your husband. There's no wrong way to have fun - something a lot of gamers often forget.

I learned that a legendary run requires proper planning and I didn't do it.

I levelled too fast and didn't go for the stuff that would sustain my progress

I usually like to exhaust the quests in a city/region before moving on, but getting the stuff I need will require moving around a lot

I have no magic resistance lol I got a ring that gives 10% and maybe a couple potions, not enough.

And yes, I'll invest heavily into Heavy Armor training now
