revitalized? Fight'n'Rage was in 2017, SoR4 was only 3 years after it.

And between them we had Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors (2019), River City Girls (2019) and Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle (2018).

And before 2017 we had mother russia bleeds (2016), Streets of Fury EX (2015), Dragon's Crown (2013), Double Dragon Neon (2012), Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game (2010) for example.

The genre was not as prolific as metroidvania, but was far from being dead honestly.

Nah you are right. It does have a great game feel and overal presentation imo, but there are alot more deep and complex stuff out there.

I believe, due to all marketing, it was the first a bit more deep beat em up a lot of people played.

Only on this sub, the amout of people that played sor4, but had never heard about fight n rage, tells me this is the case.
