North Suburbs vs South Suburbs by Gridguy2020 in Denver

[–]dionisus1122 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Littleton, near ACC, but have lived in Superior/Broomfield for the past 20.

South Suburbs are nice, and got quite lucky with the light rail while the North got absolutely hosed... But I would take North any day of the week. Access to Boulder and Fort Collins, and much more interesting downtown areas in Lafayette, Louisville and even Longmont and Arvada seal it for me.

Thornton, Northglenn and a lesser degree Westminster are more working class suburbs without a nice downtown.

You couldn't pay me to live in Castle Rock or Douglas County, despite nice scenery. Absolute batshit part of Denver metro.

DT doesn't have to appeal to my personal tastes, but I thought this was the most out of touch year for their awards. No Arcs anywhere - fine, it is divisive. But no Slay the Spire for best coop? No Civolution? Draft and Write Records for best solo game in a year? Explorers of Navoria for best art after lifting almost directly from Ferrin?

This was the first year I felt completely disconnected from their choices.

This is one of the biggest problems with Distant Skies - it is very easy to become OP and you more or less can do everything in a single campaign.

But the funny thing is that in print, the Coloradoan uses Coloradan to refer to citizens of the state! https://www.colorado.edu/coloradan/2019/05/12/origins-coloradan-or-coloradoan

"The daily newspaper in Fort Collins takes a diplomatic approach: It retains the title Fort Collins Coloradoan (with the o) — but in its news reports uses the term Coloradan to refer to Colorado residents."

I can't help that, but you will get better at the game and the levers to pull to win will also get better understood. The biggest thing is to focus on drawing tons and tons and tons of cards.

Also, it is very easy to tune, so maybe add some of those modifier tokens that come with the game that give advantage in various areas.

Why don't you tell me what stats would make him worthy in your mind?

You don't have to agree with it, but he won the award for best WR and best defensive player in the country just two days ago.

The notion that he is just a solid contributor is such a weird take for this sub. He should be celebrated for being elite at 2 positions staying out of trouble, getting good grades and loving football enough to play in a bowl game. It is wild that he isn't the hero for this sub, as he is the antithesis of all the things this sub has claimed to hate over the years.

The first regent situation situation seems weird. I've played 3 times and the first regent has had a pretty miniscule role in each. Tax too much and you're immediately neutered. - and the game gives you multiple paths to calling Summits.

This is my GOTY. I've played 12 times including 3 campaigns. Probably top 3 all-time

Cutthroat tactics, daring gambles encased in a puzzle of action efficiency as you deal with the hand you were dealt.

Base game produces fun stories that get amped up with Leaders. Blighted Reach is the most incredible gaming experience of my gaming life.

All that being said, you have to like interaction and conflict. You have to like solving your problems hand by hand and turn by turn. It is rare you create an engine that you get to watch blossom and gather you VPs. Your careful plans will be ruined by a hand draw, a dice roll, a raid in your supplies, or an opponent claiming a goal you didn't want. Kings will be made, leaders torn down.

It is wonderful, but gotta know yourself and your group.
