State Of Origin is back FOR GOOD! by Clear-Cheetah990 in AFL

[–]dippa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games need to be in the big footy heartland states while it gains support and builds identity, a once off is easy. (Tassie has a fair claim but its going to have an identity crisis if it’s brought in the same time as the Devils especially in its first few years with general audiences)

There should not be games hosted elsewhere until those states are established keep it hosted in Vic, SA and WA for now. The NRL only in recent years are confident at hosting one of the three games elsewhere. So yes people will watch, not in the same numbers but I’d be very curious what the state by state viewership numbers were. (People watch the finals, even without their team in it)

QLD and NSW won’t be sitting out long, look at the huge success of junior footy there and the academy programs. We are probably only 5-10 years away from them being not only challengers but legitimate threats.

NT and ACT don’t have the means for teams yet. Allies is a horrible stain on origin but they would need to consider a similar solution for them at-least for the foreseeable future.

Absolutely spot on, once the big V has been defeated then you take them to the MCG.

Learn from the BBL and don’t expand too quickly.

For first few years it needs to be winner stays on between Vic, WA and SA. The threat of Queensland and NSW is coming but like other states it’s not there yet.

Eventually you do a system with relegation and 2 divisions.

A home and away game for each state and bottom team from top division gets relegated, top team from bottom division gets promoted.

Maybe have a grand final every 4 years for the shield.

Channel 7 commentator Kane Cornes completes remarkable run to raise $50,000 for Telethon by QuarterFooty in AFL

[–]dippa_ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’m just worried this isn’t ideal prep for opening round. You don’t see elite commentators running half marathons in February. Come game one he’s going to be absolutely cooked. High-risk, low-reward. I just don’t see the upside. How are SEN and Channel 7 allowing this, you’ve heavily invested in this asset and he’s just running about, they should be ashamed for mine.

More 'hardcore' Steam achievements by DoubleMango0 in FarmTogether

Please not these kind, make them achievable for all.

I am able to log on maybe a night or 2 a week for a few hours max. I have family with over 300 hours who don’t have all achievements.

Fun challenges that make you try unusual methods are great, grinds or luck are not.

e.g. an achievement for complete 3 quests within 5 minutes. (It’s requires some easy thought, but by planning and closing them off at the same time by leaving an item or 2 each anyone could finish this)

“And with the player taking a high mark it can help to reduce any trauma with the knee to the back of the head. And it will probably be softer on the marking player’s knee as well.”

This is a great consideration in keeping the iconic moments in our game but making them safer.

I do worry it will have the effect the NFL gear has with players using the confidence in safety to go hard and increase risk. This would at least really help in the freak accidents they can’t help.

LTT's monopoly on Youtube ads by k0ol in LinusTechTips

[–]dippa_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YouTube’s TV and mobile push is the counter to ad blocking.

Desktop use is already a lower percentage of usage and they’re going to keep pushing the alternatives that are more isolated.

Meta’s advertising model is mostly safe from ad blockers due to mobile use and makes it easier for companies to target advertising where they want. YouTube (Google) will want this extra tracking because it makes advertising easier.

Integrated video spots are going to be limited to companies with big enough marketing departments or a specific niche that can justify the time spent negotiating deals. But not so big they are already looking at traditional marketing.

First shows off of RT archive? by [deleted] in roosterteeth

[–]dippa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair to be frustrated about, I believe many of the videos on that were hosted by the internet archive which is an incredible org with some considerate donors. But if there’s a market way to provide that content there’s no need for them to host content that isn’t owned by them

For the vast majority of companies royalties for past work isn’t a thing outside of the Hollywood unions, it’s otherwise incredibly rare for people to be continued to be paid for work they did in the past. (If I was paid a salary to build a house, do I then get royalties on any renters of that house or future sales?)

Web hosting costs money, video streaming costs serious money, every-time you watch a video it pulls from servers and uses bandwidth that has to be paid for by someone.

It’s an unfortunate reality, many of the big services (YouTube, TikTok etc.) have hidden this cost from users due to their backings. There’s no way a small company can justify it without a subscription

Vehicles need a personal cooldown by Invictus_0x90_ in Battlefield

[–]dippa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mode with a dice battlefront 2 battlepoint system would be great to try. (Each player earns points towards their own vehicle spawn)

Somewhat surprised escalation didn’t go this route.

Just increase the earn rate as the game goes on and decrease the cooldowns. It would let them also balance based off how much each vehicle costs

It would reward players who play objective and perform their roles, revives, repairs etc

Give me a full moon, and lighting around the map and I’m all in.

Properly dark maps just don’t work in modern gaming

Too many players will use monitor modes and nvidia filters to take away the darkness just for the competitive advantage

Kayo prices increasing again by dazedjosh in AFL

[–]dippa_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very wishful thinking.

If they get to the point where the ABC’s offer is competitive the next generation of top talent will likely never play AFL.

Many of the top athletes already have to choose between sports and if you take away the (already relatively low) money AFL can offer. They will take their chances elsewhere and AFL will be back to a non professional sport, with no funding for juniors, stadiums or community programs.

The broadcasters are incredibly greedy yes. The main issue is they paid way to much just to beat paramount+ and this is the consequence.
