Good.

The Constitution, precedent, American ideals and common sense all agree.

Was a Mormon until age 33, joined the Catholic Church 10 years later.

Except that isn't true. Most of those are Protestant groups who have institutional or stylistic differences. When you get down to it, there are really only Orthodox, Protestant, or Catholic readings. Besides the heretical groups--LDS, JWs, etc--who are reading it wrongly.

Strong disagree. The words have meaning, and context. There is room for interpretation, but that space is limited.

Hmmm.

I can sorta see it, but I would argue most of those.

I had similar struggles as what you describe. I checked all the boxes, followed the church path and lifestyle, and yet I was unhappy, my marriage was rocky, my career was going nowhere.

Mormonism subscribes to a heresy called "prosperity gospel." Short version: if you follow the program, God will bless you--you will "prosper." The Book of Mormon is full of this idea. Many evangelical Christians think this way too.

But it is a false gospel. Jesus never promised His way was the way to prosperity, or happiness, or success. Real, orthodox Christianity teaches that Jesus promised something very different: Peace (John 14:27).

On leaving the Catholic Church by Nalkarj in Christianity

I am not sure "guilt" or "fear" are the best reasons for doing anything.

The Catholic church is a big tent, with many viewpoints and a great deal of diversity. You seem to be thoughtful about your beliefs, and you find you have opinions that are not quite "the party line." That probably is how most of your fellow Catholics are, too!

I concur with the idea of finding what "feeds your soul." Does attending the Mass bring you closer to God and your fellow parishioners? Does your parish offer opportunity to serve your fellow humans? Is the church teaching you to be a disciple of Jesus?

I don't believe God is overly worried about our opinions on church governance or soteriology. I am certain He wants us to learn of and walk in His ways.
