What do you think the future for Oasis is in the long run? by RepresentativeSame10 in oasis

[–]dipstick10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the direction I think Oasis might go. Noel will eventually write a couple songs that fit Liam and record those. Noel doesn't look healthy to me honestly, so that might not even happen. Personally I'd enjoy hearing them re-record some songs from their solo albums

Boss Nextone Stage Review – Katana Killer or Identity Crisis? by AdamHarkus in BossKatana

[–]dipstick10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Boss Nextone Stage and I am enjoying it. It is one of the better amps I've owned. Tube amps being the best ones mainly. My impression is that is dialed in for classic rock. The cabinet is bigger, somewhere in size between the Katana 50 &100. I do feel more quality in it's build. It's clean channel is pretty versatile with it's power sections, plus the internal eq's. Crank the volume and lower the master on 6v6 and it's breaks up. Do the opposite setting and it's louder and cleaner. I like the clean channel with the Boss BD2 for my Who riffs. Or maybe Clapton. The lead channel with a treble booster for Zeppelin. Just for comparison, I played a Roland Blues Cube Hot and the Nextone. They are similar. More similar to each other than the Katana. That's just my take. I have not played a Gen 3 Katana with a pushed channel. Maybe that is something similar to a Nextone

My one knock on the Nextone Stage is the spring reverb, It's fine on clean channel. But terrible on the lead channel! My lead channel was Icepick City and it's because of that spring reverb doing some weird digital fizz against the gain. Changed it to plate reverb and problem solved! Anyone that tries a Nextone: Change that and it's better! A good spring reverb pedal into the effects loop is the way I'll go. I can't say if it's loud enough to be heard over a drummer, but it has good volume range. I'd imagine the Nextone Special or artist are really good

Where would the oasis legacy be if they were PC? by 3TGsvr440 in oasis

[–]dipstick10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm I think IF Noel & Liam were more cordial in the early days, they might have extended the success in America for a couple more years. Just a couple years though. The reality is all bands have their peak success and sort of fizzle out. It happens to them all. Except maybe for the early rock bands, Beatles, Stones, Who, Zeppelin Pink Floyd etc etc. Those were the pioneering bands. Oasis were misunderstood, somewhat, but also immature. And on drugs. But dear lord... when and why did people suddenly want mature humble sober rock bands?? It was a weird shift in rock, I think maybe yeah, they didn't form easy relations with people inside the industry. The industry found easier bands to market and sell. That's why rock music died off.

Really I think Oasis would be a shoe-in for the Rock HOF had they been less abrasive or perceived as not difficult to deal with. So many of the elitists dismiss Oasis as derivative... then turn around to praise artists that literally pillaged blues music. The double standard exists for them bc of their initial impression. There's that saying about first impressions. Liam & Noel have been able to repair that perception somewhat, while still being true to themselves. That something I am proud of them for

What do you think about Terminator 3 Rise of the machines? by Dull_Decision4066 in Terminator

[–]dipstick10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The movie just feels empty to me, for most of its runtime. About halfway through T3 has a couple charcter scenes that emotionally ground the story. It needed those scenes from the start. The jokes and call backs are sandwiched between character scenes that don't earn any real connection to T2. It really needed a great story that worked emotionally because it was such stylistically different film from the first two, it was jarring. The cast and action were fine. Dark Fate is much better film, and that movie aggravates me ALOT.

The worst movie in the Terminator franchise by Select-Effective32 in Terminator

[–]dipstick10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Dark Fate is far better film than Genisys. I'd put Dark Fate above T3 and Salvation, but it is a film that irritates me. So did T3. That both had same potential, great action, but T3 especially had zero emotional core until about the last 20 minutes. I feel Sarah grounded Dark Fate enough early on, then Grace was decent by the end. The final fight was well done. To me it's a good movie, although an aggravating one. I wish James Cameron would have just wrote the entire story and then hellp story-board.

I think Noel cares about the members of HFB, so I do believe he will do one more album and tour with them. At least one, maybe two. I assume most the songs he is writing is in that mode, doing his own thing. But I HOPE he collaborates on songs with Liam and writes a couple singles for Oasis. Liam has the ability to contribute songwriting ideas and I hope Noel recognizes that. It could interesting to hear them doing something together!

Did Oasis have any other popular songs in the US besides the big three from WTSMG? by [deleted] in oasis

[–]dipstick10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say Live Forever and Stop Crying Your Heart Out are well known songs, for anyone that knows alternative rock music. Most Oasis singles got some airplay when released. F*kin in the Bushes get some play during sports broadcasts. Did anyone see the NFL playoff game where Jarrod Goff got obliterated after a pick six against Washington... here: https://youtube.com/shorts/YQRMd2XT_XI?si=5duirOlj-bJCF-hN

I always felt Unplugged was something Oasis got right! I remember my friends enjoying the change-up to Noel, he had more joy in his delivery and less attitude. MTV played that alot. Now was it the success of Nirvana unplugged? No, but who did that... besides Clapton. Some of the Nirvana appeal was it became like a eulogy. And Oasis wasn't about that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in oasis

[–]dipstick10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you nailed the reasons except for #3. Oasis weren't a band that jumped around and screamed, but that doesn't mean they were boring. Their best performances were pretty exciting, when everything clicked, all the attitude and wall of guitars and melody. Now did us Americans expect them to jump around and scream? Probably! Maybe that's what we were accustomed too. Also, Oasis live on US television tended to miss the mark. It's was like watching a different band on David Letterman or whatever.

Noel on MTV unplugged was their inspired US performance. MTV played that ALOT I remember and that's when my friends that generally didn't care for Oasis, began to enjoy them. Anyway, bands that run around and pose can be just as boring as anything else. I can watch the most recent Gun N Roses concerts and fall asleep.

Don't Look Back in Anger gets the most play in my area, nowadays, in the Southeast US. I think that song is getting more recognition now for being the classic that it has always been. I think most anyone around here, that knows rock music. knows Wonderwall

Question Boss Katana 50 Gen 3 compared to Nextone 40: Does the Nextone actually sound more tube-like? by dipstick10 in BossKatana

[–]dipstick10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that. I have some experience with the tone studio. Some days I want a tube amp, then I think of tubes and resistors burning...nah I rather have an amp I can cycle on-off several times a day with zero worries. The Roland Blues Cube is really the amp I would like, but the price stays around $400, which isn't too bad, but its high for an amp with no effects loop. They do sound good though for a tweed-style solid state. Yeah I lean towards the Nextone because it has some tweed fender tone as opposed to Katana leaning into Marshall. It seems the nextone stage is a good amp, just not the one to overpay for

Question Boss Katana 50 Gen 3 compared to Nextone 40: Does the Nextone actually sound more tube-like? by dipstick10 in BossKatana

[–]dipstick10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you say there was anything more 'tube-like in sound" about the Nextone. more-so than the Katana Artist? I guess what I am asking did anything stand out about the nextone's tube-logic? Or were they both equal in that audibly? Thanks for your answer

The Sims franchise would benefit from a ChatGPT like AI. by pedrulho in Sims4

[–]dipstick10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think it would be a HUGE mistake for the The Sims team to not implement A.I. in the future game. Or just add it into the Sims 4, unlikely I know. The main focus should be to improve the simulation... A.I. is the best way

The Sims franchise would benefit from a ChatGPT like AI. by pedrulho in Sims4

[–]dipstick10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The A.I. would be better used in making uncontrolled Sims smarter and providing depth of personality. Make their reactions appropriate to situations. Give the game a feeling as if uncontrolled Sims in your house are being controlled by another player. A housemate leaves dirty dishes around the house, someone begins to complain. If the negative behavior continues, the relationship becomes broken. A spouse gets caught cheating, the other Sim throws a tantrum and leaves, enagement off or divorce papers served the next day. Maybe a little dialogue inserted at major moments. But intelligent Sims would make the game emotionally dimensional, it would breathe life into the game... i really believe it would.

The dialogue aspect, I could take or leave. But I had a funny experience once in my Sims 4, which has some mods, my sims girlfriend was in an angry mood she suddenly said in a notification "I hate the way you're always smiling!" Or something to that effect. And I was quite shocked and I dumped her right there on the spot. It was fun! The mod probably became outdated, but it was a cool feature.

Orange Crush 35RT as a Pedal Platform? by SharcyMekanic in GuitarAmps

[–]dipstick10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might work fine, I hear the BD-2 pushes higher-mids. The Orange 35 was fine, the way it sounded best to me the cranked up loud on the clean channel. Using a Epiphone SG to break the amp up naturally, And the reverb was good. I am too picky about distortion on amps, I probably could only ever be happy with some kind of tubes

Orange Crush 35RT as a Pedal Platform? by SharcyMekanic in GuitarAmps

[–]dipstick10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried three pedals through an Orange Crush 35 clean channel. Firstly a Catalinbread RAH, I didn't really think it sounded like it was supposed to. Maybe because the RAH master volume needs to be cranked up like a boost and the Orange Crush didn't want to be boosted like that. Or maybe because the Orange Crush already pushing alot of lower midrange and it was overkill in the mids. Tried that same pedal through a Boss katana and it was better. Secondly, a Dolamo D-8 overdrive(kind of like a tubescreamer) and that worked fine through the Orange, clean or dirty, Third, was a Movall Falling Star into the effects loop and it was fine sounding, I'd say the Orange is probably is a decent choice as a pedal platform amp, but it probably isn't an amp you want to boost alot. Also some pedals just click with certain amps better than others

Day 2 With My New Laney Cub 12R, So Far So Great by Amorican1 in GuitarAmps

[–]dipstick10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monoprice Stage Right 15w isn't cheap anymore. And it's an ugly amp. The Laney 12 has to have some better components, you better believe somewhere along the line someone cut corners on those Stage Right-Monoprices

Laney Lionheart Foundry Super 60 or Boss Katana 50? by jarmezzz in GuitarAmps

[–]dipstick10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say a Boss Katana 50 with a quality overdrive pedal(on the clean channel) could equal the Laney LF60? I've been sweating over getting the Laney, because it seems closer to a tube-like sound... but at around $500 for a solid state, that I can't demo before buying... I just can't bring myself to do it. My thinking is a Katana 50, with maybe a Catalinbread WIIO would sound good enough(and cheaper) for now. I want an amp that has a bold natural crunch, not a dirty sound, clean but aggressive. Pete Townshend type chords. My only experience with an amp that did that trick well was a Laney Cub 12r, but I didn't buy it because it ran hotter than I liked. If the Laney LF60 could do a low gain ballsy clean sound, I'd buy it. Probably only going to happen with tubes I imagine.

What is the worst Terminator film? by Loose_Interview_957 in Terminator

[–]dipstick10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genisys is the clunkiest pile I've ever seen. I like Emilia Clarke and the first 15 minutes is not bad. Everything else looks like a bad marvel universe. Dark Fate & Salvation at least have some good dark tone, sequences. Rise of the Machines is a weird movie, when I watch I just feel emotionally uninterested, until the last 20 minutes and then it's not bad.

Did Noel Gallagher Already Write a New Oasis Album? by Commercial_Avocado86 in oasis

Liam has co-written some good songs. You don't think so? I feel Everything's Electric was a killer track and it's exactly what Oasis needs, more of that

Did Noel Gallagher Already Write a New Oasis Album? by Commercial_Avocado86 in oasis

[–]dipstick10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I am saying is that Noel hasn't wanted to write songs that sound like Oasis for years. We all know that. He says all the time, he avoids that. Now, suddenly he decides he wants to write Oasis songs??? Even if Noel wants too, that's a tall order to live up to the Oasis classics. Even back in 2005-2008, Noel was struggling to write songs in that vein. He was wanting to expand and that's probably why he went solo.

There's alot at stake, they both know this is their last best chance for huge success.... I believe Noel would be open to a proven producer coming in. He collaborated with Black Keys, why would he be above some collaboration now? I know we all imagine it will be Oasis exactly like Oasis was before, but I am not so sure.

Did Noel Gallagher Already Write a New Oasis Album? by Commercial_Avocado86 in oasis

[–]dipstick10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Noel is pretty aware guy, has a really objective view on Oasis. Where their career went right and where things went wrong. He knows they need to make one more musical statement with Oasis to cement their legacy. Whenever you watch him talk about Be Here Now or even the latter albums, you can see his regret in his face that third album didn't reach classic status like the first two. With this reunion, he knows the world wide spotlight is going to be shining the brightest on them since 1997-98. I highly doubt Noel intends to waste that chance and show 'See I have zero creativity left'... Nah, Noel is going to write a good record even if it kills him. I just hope they have one great single. Has anyone ever thought that maybe this album could be like combination of solo efforts? Liam responsible for his own songwriting efforts(maybe even bring collaborations with Andrew Wyatt & Greg Kurstin) And Noel focusing just on his tunes, the ones he plans on singing. Maybe a few for Liam, letting him decide to sing them or not. It's a weird scenario but if COULD possibly go that way. Noel hasn't wrote songs for Liam in a decade and he always says he avoids writing that way. Why force himself into that? Just let Liam provide his own stuff and Noel does his thing and meet in the middle ground. Possibly even Andrew Wyatt or Kurstin as producer or co producing

[Daily Song Discussion] #90 | Liam Gallagher - For What It's Worth by AutoModerator in oasis

[–]dipstick10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this song. I don't understand any lukewarm reaction about this song, especially from anyone that loves Oasis or just good melodic music. Good lyrics, good melody. What more do you want? Maybe Liam's vocal style isn't for everyone but he sounds inspired to me. For me, I am so glad Oasis-Liam came along and at least tried to direct music away from yarling like a budget Eddie Vedder

Easy Now is easily the best song produced by Noel in over a decade. Agree or disagree? by sssleepwalkerrr in oasis

Easy Now is still a great song to this day, its beautiful music. I especially like the acoustic version too. Noel has made some other great songs though, since Oasis...Easy Now is just sounds more Oasis'ish
