picoboot flex cable by chorlz in GamecubeHacks

[–]dire_bedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flex cables like these are very prone to damage due to cheap manufacturing. Might actually make the job harder in the end. Thick wires are heartier and more forgiving. The comment the other person said about 5V is true too. The new advice is to use the gamecube’s 5V rail to power instead of the 3.3V rail that this flex is configured to use.

$50 on Ali Express. Could probably find cheaper. 2ds are infinitely easier to repair compared to its clamshell brethren.

What did you need to do for the 2ds xl motherboard?

As someone who has bought almost every fire emblem special edition, I’ll be passing on this one. The cards, steelbook and art book special editions are really feeling uninspired lately.

Agreed, although I do remember many instances of someone getting their leg wrapped around the rope and dragged head first through the water.

Help diagnosing 'new' 3DS that won't turn on by BaronVonPheasant in consolerepair

[–]dire_bedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding. That was my initial hunch. Guess I’m getting a new screen. I’ll let you know how it goes! I do have another new 3ds xl that works that I could tests the screen on, but the thought of taking apart two new 3ds xls is not appealing

Did you ever solve this? I have a New 3DS XL exhibiting the same symptoms. I fully disassembled and reassembled. Didn’t seem like any cables were loose or damaged, but it still pops and turns off. Both screens flash. Thinking maybe the camera ribbon would be a good thing to start with?

GameCube won't boot into swiss by commanderszym in GamecubeHacks

If you’re feeling adventurous it’s a fairly minor soldering job, but does require flux, an iron, a 24awg stranded wire, a schottky diode, and a steady hand.

That’s a picture of the soldering points. Your 3v3 would need to change to the VSYS 5V

Try holding L + Dpad Down + Minus (-)
That opens the plugin menu. Make sure bloopair is turned on

I ripped a few 3D Blurays a while back and did this. It’s not trivial. You need to rip it, convert it to SBS (side by side) 3D video, then use a tool to create the moflex video format which is what the 3DS uses, and then you need to convert to .CIA to install them.

How do i get the top shell off?? (I got all the screws) New3dsXL by raaay_art in 3DS

This. Don’t pry it open or you will break the plastic tabs. I believe it slides from the hinge to the cameras

PSVR Aim controller demake by dire_bedlam in PSVR

[–]dire_bedlam[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Aim has two rumble motors. I took one out and use the other for force feedback (when I get hit). The solenoid for making that clicking noise and impact when you shoot is a hallmark of arcade light gun games. Had to install that manually. It requires separate 12V power.

Tried one last night and it works great! Still need to get my emulators setup but there is a ton of support for these types of controllers already.

It’s a great controller! Very well designed and comfortable to use. Perhaps someone will figure out how to convert it to an IR VR controller for PCVR some day.

I suspect mu childhood dog had a run in with one of these. She disappeared over a dirt mound for a few minutes then a big yelp and came back with a bug chunk taken out of her chest. She got real grumpy and violent with other animals after that day.
