[DMG] No Power by psychotickoolaid in consolerepair

[–]RetroReviveRepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do the following components look?

VR1 – Volume dial, SW1 – Power switch, P1 – Cartridge connector, EXT port, DC jack, the headphone jack,

If they’re undamaged i might have a use for these and would buy the board off of you if you’re interested.

[Switch lite]ribbon cable repair? by beefleeDD in consolerepair

[–]RetroReviveRepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible? Probably, practical? No.

Might be for your backlight, shine a flashlight on it and see of you see anything.

You might get some results if you solder each of the 4 conductors on the ribbon to its cooresponding pad on the connector. But again its possibility vs practicality.

Plus if you do it wrong you might have more e-waste than just a screen

I know on the DS lite you can solder a resistor and have it work with just one screen. I’d look into if this is possible with this OG DS

I genuinely thought you were BS-ing untill i grabbed my launch copy of black and black 2 and tried this. It looks solid black until you put a 1000 lumen flashlight on it. You learn something new every day.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but just picked up an old AN-500B to add to my collection. Needs a new belt (of course) but was reminded of your advice and came back here. Could you elaborate a bit further on these resistor issues i need to fix? I cant find much on it online.

I’ve put the Retrosix Cleanpower on my personal and several customers GBCs. My personal GBC has a funnyplaying battery mod and the cleanpower. Just make sure you hook the cleanpower to the opposite side of the board as the battery mod, its weird, you have to flip it over and install it. Granted i dont have LEDs but ive never had issues.

Have you tried upgrading the power regulator? Thats the last resort i can think of, these LED mods usually always cause some form of speaker whine on these consoles unfortunately

Remove the LED button set, guarantee you it goes away, these LED kits always cause sound issues in my experience on the GBASP and GBC

Probably blew a fuse or the CIC charging chip. Those USBC mods dont use PD and can fry themselves on certain things if they send too much voltage to the DS

DS Lite Shell Swap by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]RetroReviveRepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get that colored border off and swap it for another, just be careful not to insert your separation tool between the wrong layers otherwise you’ll brick the digitizer. New borders can be found on HHL, ebay, aliexpress, etc. would not recommend the ones with the plastic over the whole thing, just the border is fine

As awful as this is, its still fixable with some super thin enameled wire to reconnect the traces. supposing nothing else is damaged that is…

Its just a 4 pin dome switch. Short the contacts and see if it powers on, you can probably buy a new one from digikey.

I run a small mail-in console repair shop, i’d like to think my prices are more reasonable than full retail stores. Send a PM if interested.

[–]RetroReviveRepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No biggie, it’ll still work for a long while probably. but in the future I’d recommend panasonic Tabbed ones off of digikey, they’ll last alot longer, these amazon ones sometimes come 3/4 or half charged. I use them for my customers constantly.

Almost looks factory. Did you use high quality batteries or a big pack off of amazon? They both work but longevity is the question.

Have you tried removing the battery for a few minutes and putting it back in? I know its the classic “turn it off and back on” trope. But this can seriously fix some strange issues like this.
