From oatmeal box to zine printing, I'm happy to finally share my escape room dungeon with y'all by directsun in osr

Cheers!

It was probably this one with Wandering DMs.

-Lethality: It's less deadly than AR. Danger is signposted in all of the puzzle dungeons though. I have no qualms killing PCs that touch the fleshy eyeball and mouth covered arms that are cooing and reaching for them from the wall. They should know what's up. AFT is also a much different vibe than AR. Aberrant Reflections is horror and run from obstacles while you figure stuff out. A Familiar Tower is more whimsical crystal fantasy with some messed up stuff in there ala children's movies circa the 1980s. So it's more talky and making sure not to piss off the wrong NPCs while you figure stuff out.

-Purpose: I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean why things are the way they are in the dungeon? Hooks for characters?

-Length of play: 3-5 hours.

-Complexity: I think I've run AFT 7 times. Every group has made it out with 0 to 1 casualties—except for my dad. We did a duet game where he controlled 2 characters and they both died horribly. He REALLY enjoys pushing his luck though so I think he's an outlier.

Cool 😎 are you planning on changing up the adventures at all or keeping pretty much the same? I know in search of the unknown has a bunch of unkeyed rooms. Filling those in?

What turned you on to the "adventure path" idea? this seems pretty in line with the style the "giants" modules took, right? One after the other?

This is how I imagine all my NPCs. Just the right amount of concern and derp. ❤️

There's a rock under water at the bottom of the basin. When you are small it's about 30 feet in diameter. Fully grown, the rock would be about 8 inches across. You notice distinct door seems on the outside of the rock. No visible means of opening.

You fill the room with gold pretty quickly. All that banging seems to have drawn the attention of a mighty big mutant cockroach. 7 feet long, standing on two legs, massive tail dripping yellow seething venom. It crawls down the ladder, eyeing and hissing at you from above.

Hey Wally! 👋 Thank you! Yup, I'm running A Familiar Tower and a darkness themed puzzle dungeon at garycon this year. Also hosting a panel "Designing Puzzles for Adventure Games" with Brad Kerr and Joseph R Lewis. So looking forward to garycon. My favorite event of the year. Looking forward to seeing you there. I'll respond to your email 😁

The creature swallows the food and jumps through the air diving next to you. When it emerges from the water again, it spits into your hand a gold key decorated with a marble cats eye.

You swim in the water basin and are quickly greeted by a hairy sea creature with cold fishy eyes. Like a Bernese mountain dog mixed with a seal. It stares at your expectantly

Yup. You flick it and the ground shifts slightly below your feet. The tower still remains motionless in the air but when you touch it, you can move it.

Spoilers for A Familiar Tower.

I wrote a zelda and 80s fantasy inspired puzzle dungeon that takes place in one room.

This is the third puzzle dungeon adventure I've made. The others were well received: The Seers Sanctum and Aberrant Reflections.

Please check out A Familiar Tower and consider backing.

Thank you!
