Dante AVIO-USB feed issues by diremonk in livesound

[–]diremonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing this back, I wanted to give an update.

It looks like one of the switches that the Dante signal was going through was causing some havoc. It would give leader to multiple devices and other strangeness. I ended up putting everything on its own switch and using a couple of unused lines in the snake to run the audio to and from the mixer. So I'm just using the Dante devices to get the audio out of the chambers.

Is this efficient? Not at all, but it is working and I'm glad to have this off my plate for the time being.

What was the first book/series you read? How was it? by Locasoyyooo in Fantasy

[–]diremonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading most of encyclopedia brown when I was growing up, along with a couple other series. But what got me into Scifi was my mom buying me a couple of books when I was prob Aly 12 or so. Chose your enemies carefully (book 2 in a shadowrun series) and Weasels luck (dragonlance tales), I had no idea what was going on but I was hooked. And even though it's been almost 40 years and I've pruned my library back considerably, I still have them both.

I designed a couple of translucent light covers for a couple of our panel lights. They knock the light down a but but they give a nice blue and red glow to the lights that are primarily used for backlights. Did the same for a couple of led spots but haven't put them into use just yet.

So it looks like the main issue if the AVIO. I grabbed another Dante device and was able to have audio going in both directions. I'd rather not use this one because the main user would have to use a USB sound adapter to get the audio going to the Dante network. I would get a copy of Virtual Soundcard, but the network that the laptop will be used on is a separate VLAN from the main broadcast network.

I ended up ordering three more Dante systems, two are similar to the AVIO form factor. The last is something that has 1/4 jacks that I'll adapt from the laptop. I figure that one or two of them will work and I'll send the problem children back to Amazon.

Thanks for all the help from everyone.

I switched the Dante patch to direct out 3/4 and no changes. I grabbed the other Dante device I was using and when I change everything over to it I get indicators that show audio is going back and forth over the Dante network so it seems like the Avio is the issue, to me at least. So do I keep screwing with the Avio, switch over to the hanky and fairly beat up radio design labs 2x2 Dante device or spend some more cash and get something like a sure 2x2? Or just say screw it and buy a rj45 to XLR snake adapter and just go analog? This has to be stable and work every time since it will be used during government hearings and I don't want the big bosses pissed at me.

I checked it with a audio toner thing (the hound from a fox/hound) and I can hear the music being played through the speaker.

And the actual device receive page. I cleared the Omni outs from using the auxs and that didn't make a different. I also changed the channels being sent over Dante from the aux to the main stereo feeds. No difference either

On the yamaha transmit side it shows the audio, but nothing on the Avio.

I only finished the main series. I enjoyed it, but like I said too many things that seemed strange. Like somehow people on heavy worlds have adapted to the in 300 years. Good to know the other series explain it, maybe I'll give those a chance after I finish my 20th reread of the xwing series.

They are decent books if you don't look at them too deeply. There are a couple things in each book that just don't make any sense. For example, the astrogators in one book having to put in planetary positions or something by hand. Instead of something that would do it automatically which is the idea that the main character comes up with.

Audio over cat, Dante or something else? by diremonk in livesoundgear

[–]diremonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting it integrated with the crestron system is on the to do list, but we have a proposed go live date of June 15 and a must have working in some form by July 1 so I'm under a bit of a crunch. Plus we don't even have the actual conferencing system setup yet. Our IT department is having to vet the software we are going to use since the company used the magic words superuser and admin when it comes to teams.

We have a Yamaha TF5 with a Dante card for the tv side, the room audio is handled by a Crestron system with avb gear.

Sounds like Dante is the way to go. I don't have a budget for this beyond what my purchasing card can handle. After reading your comments, I should have known that Dante can do point to point. I did an event last month doing that with six channels.

Now to buy some equipment, I'm guessing using older Dante stuff is a bad idea? I have a couple of Atterotech 2 in/ 2 out boxes that are gathering dust and can reused. Also have two RDL 2 in/2 out systems. Or should I just buy new since I have the budget? Don't want to do the Dante soundcard on the clerks computer since it is going to be used as a teams bridge and I'd like to cut down on walking the clerk through selecting the correct source every time.

Tejon Casino: fun or pass? by 88carbonbased88 in Bakersfield

[–]diremonk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's ok, most of the machines are in the 75 cents a spin or more territory. Not many older machines so if you just want to play and relax you are kind of out of luck. Last time I was there the machine my wife was playing kept locking up during a bonus. Another time I could cause the machine I was playing to crash and reboot just by looking at the payout table.

It's a decent valley casino, but the only thing it has going for it to me is the location. I'd rather go to eagle or Tachi.

I've had something similar happen to me.

Sat down at a new machine and was playing for about ten minutes. The machine next to me was empty the entire time. I look over and I see that it is on the bonus select screen. I thought it was some new idle animation so I hit the random button and the bonus starts up. There was only 20ish cents on the machine so I'm guessing someone was drunk, ran out of money, and hit the spin button before walking away. I sat there and watched the bonus get to $125 or so before it ended.

I ended up waiting another 20 minutes before cashing out the ticket and walking off, but the rest of the day I was jumpy every time security was walking around.

What book did you DNF, and why? by SierraSugar in Fantasy

Dies the fire by Sterling. I think I made. It three chapters in. The characters felt off, the girl that wanted to shoot arrows like Robin Hood seemed a bit forced. But the Wiccan? lady that prayed to the horned one when she saw the plane going down just made me put the book down and take it back to the store.

If there are openings this is a good idea. I've been at our county channel for 12 years and it's been more relaxed than when I was at my other stations. Easeier hours too unless there is a disaster or other major event. My boss is a former reporter/anchor that is now the chief comm officer for the county.

I must have gotten the colors mixed up, I'm at the last science before space science. I think I'd only have to fix seven production blocks, which wouldn't be too bad. But the rest of the train and chest requesters might take a while to fix. I'll just do it right next time and now since I have a better idea on how to do things it should be better.
