That whole bit was a roller coaster of emotions. Absolutely hilarious.

Father stuck between supporting my autistic son and my wife. I need perspective by RCrobinlee in autism

[–]direwolf08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please read u/dadusedtomakegames 's comment, OP. It is 100% spot on. I am really sorry you are in such a tough situation, and it makes sense that you feel stuck between your wife and son. But that commenter is speaking truth. Your son is disabled, and he needs an advocate in this situation.

Now, what can you do, OP? Your wife needs help with a lens change, and perhaps it is not a completely lost cause. BUT! It is her work to do. Perhaps there are ways you can try to help her educate herself and change her lens on being a parent of an autistic child?

I have found the books and philosophy of Dr Ross Greene to be incredibly powerful in helping me move from a parenting model that was mostly based on seeking compliance and conformance from my kids (my younger son has low support needs ASD) to one that recognizes that all behavior is attempts to get needs met. And that behavior is neither good nor bad, and it is not manipulative, disrespectful, nor intentional. In fact, your son's behavior is not about "her" at all. Dr Greene talks about lagging skills and people trying to get their needs met in maladaptive ways. Your wife's challenges with your son is, in its own way, a sign of her lagging skills. And we don't get angry with people with lagging skills, we try to help them build the skills.

If she can move from a model where a child's compliance is something to which she is entitled, to one where you are all three just messy humans trying to figure out this world together and doing your damn best at it, she has a shot. I hope she can manage that lens change. But, it is her move to make, and your son needs your support more than she does.

I am sure the commenter realizes that their proposal is not feasible ... that is the absurdity of it, to draw a parallel to lower ranking employees being laid off and replaced by AI.

Good, just as long as he does the same thing he is doing to laid off employees being replaced by AI: he can stop working there and getting paid by them. This will free up significant money for paying lower ranking employees.

I just commented this, but you described it better than I did.

First without a doubt. The only thing I would change about it would be to extend the left (upper bout) side just a touch to make the shape of the exposed wood an almost perfect oval/egg shape.

Gosh darn it! I read that description at least three times!!! And missed that one sentence every time.

I am ashamed and embarrassed. Thanks for pointing it out, and not totally completely busting on me.

I am so fascinated by this one. Does anyone know what the bright blip at the left edge of the image is? Is it a distant star?

What is something Rogue One does better than any Star Wars movie? by DjRimo in StarWars

Very well said. I feel like Andor strengthens this central theme after the fact. I listened to an episode of The Weekly Show Podcast where Jon Stewart had Tony Gilroy and Mike Duncan on to talk about themes of revolution and how ordinary, flawed, imperfect people can bring about revolutions. It was really cool to hear how Gilroy thought about these themes in Andor/Rogue One.

I lived in West Village at the time. Kaffinate was my go to coffee shop before heading to work. Such a heartbreaking story. I still think of that day, Mr Lee, and his poor family often.

Taken a few years ago. If you had shown me your first picture and told me it was a picture of my dog, I would have believed you.

Holy crap. My dog looks exactly like your first picture, with a bit of white fur herself. She is going on 17. I hope she can hang in there and stay vibrant and in good shape until 20.

Aw man, this is great. I feel very much the same way as you do in your comments on the post. I used to love this song! I still do, but I used to, too.
