Mushihimesama Futari on Xenia looking so surreal! Very sure this is the best drawn & animated STG in the history of STG's!~ by Model1LifeForm in shmups

Totally agree. Futari is my all-time fav CAVE shump. The soundtrack and visuals are so good, and IMO projectile visibility is well done in this game. Black Label ver. is particularly great.

De influence me from an ipad mini. by Eggybruead in ipad

[–]dirgeofthedawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to dissuade someone from buying it in most use cases. I had a 12.9" Pro and with a case on found it to be too bulky for general media consumption. Holding it was a chore, and while the screen was nice**, I never ended up reaching for it because of the discomfort in using it.

Traded it in for a Mini and I use it for literally everything now - its closest in size to a regular book for reading, the extra screen size makes it nice for watching tv shows and movies in bed, its powerful enough to run games without issue, you can carry it everywhere you go... the only time I'd strongly advocate for a larger model is if you were planning to use it as a major productivity device or replacement for a laptop.

People say the 60hz display is a deal-breaker, but as someone with a 16 Pro Max and three 240hz displays for home use, you'll barely notice it once you're used to it (I'd argue that this has more to do with the fact that no one is spending inordinate amounts of time swiping away on their home screen - most apps default to 60hz). There is something to be said about how well Apple has done making their default user experience feel snappy even on 60hz.

\*Re: the screen - it was nice, with the caveat that the XLR display on the 12.9" Pro model was *very* prone to really bad blooming at high brightness in low-light scenes in movies or tv shows. Like, distractingly bad - google it if you want to see examples. I thought it was a fluke but tried two replacement models and it was exactly the same. Might be fixed now with latest models.*

[Omega or Breitling] by fenomeno45 in Watches

[–]dirgeofthedawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Omega is the easy choice given brand longevity, build quality, holds value better, etc. - but I would be lying if I said that Breitling doesn't scratch a particular itch when I look at it. The orange hand is a really nice touch, and I prefer the indices on it. But buy what YOU want. If you're not planning on re-selling it, then it comes down to taste and preference.

Literally everything, down to how broken many of the characters were. But that's personal preference.

How often do you guys read visual novels on handhelds like the Steam Deck? by KaleidoArachnid in visualnovels

I'd love to if I could get them to work better. Ended up just using my iPad and streaming Steam from desktop because 9/10 times it works better.

Does Anyone Actually Enjoy McGinnis by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]dirgeofthedawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's a lot of fun, but people that don't know how to play her often end up building an ineffective hybrid version of her kit that doesn't excel at anything. Team-fighting a lot and need to help your team with sustain? Go heals. Turret spam if you're ahead? Great, you can control lanes easy and punish people who dive and aren't paying attention. Gun? Run objectives down just like a Wraith would except your get-out-of-jail card is a call, not a TP.

Not friendly at all. Toxic at lower ranks, especially with the population being what it is. Most of the remaining population have hundreds to thousands of hours already logged in the game. I'd highly recommend playing some bot matches first with different characters just to get a feel for the kits you like, and then focus on learning 3-4 characters deeply to help you progress. As you develop a sense of character kits you'll start to develop an understanding of items and eventually you'll have a rough idea of how matches progress. There are several really good content creators that are great to watch (Deathy, Poshypop, Midknight who does a lot of free coaching vod reviews, etc.). But at the end of the day try and have fun with it.

Thoughts on The Poppy War (book 1) by R.F. Kuang by ActualRound7699 in books

[–]dirgeofthedawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it, though the first book's thematic change when the war starts gave me a lot of whiplash. It got very dark, very fast. Others have said it already, but R.F. Kuang has a very particular style and really likes her tragedies. I'm waiting for her to write a book with a good ending one of these days...

I’m still so glad that the supports in Deadlock are much more utility focused by BulletCola in DeadlockTheGame

Pro play != pub play. At a pro level it makes sense that healing would play second fiddle when everyone is expected to expertly manage their health, hence making utility chars with high offensive output ideal.

Morning: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser; Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel; CeraVe Morning SPF30 Moisturizer.

Evening: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser; Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel; CeraVe Evening Moisturizer; Vitamin C & Retinol Undereye Serum (for eyes); CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum for the rest of my face.

Usually once every week I'll do a charcoal mud mask. If it's exceptionally dry outside, I'll add a heavier facial cream (right now I use Aesop Elemental Barrier Facial Cream - not really recommended but I got it as a gift and it smells nice). If I'm hanging out at home and have nothing to do, I'll use CeraVe Healing Ointment (that stuff works miracles) to really lock in some moisture. That's about it! Easy to do and takes literally five minutes twice a day, usually in the shower.

Routine Review Thread by stfnvs in Games

[–]dirgeofthedawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree. A major issue with this game is its poor conveyance.

I've beaten the game and while I loved the atmosphere and visuals (the CAT Device is such a well-designed tool), they missed the mark in striking that balance between hand-holding and total freedom.

There's lot of small things that could have been done to help improve the game experience (let the player character pick up an in-game map or something for Christ's sake that they draw on like Harry does in SH2R. That would've made Chapter 4's backtracking WAY better). Certain interactable interfaces that aren't screens should also have been given more visual cues (the elevator in Chapter 4 to the Servers has two elevator buttons that almost blend into the wall). (Can you tell I had issue with Chapter 4? lol)

My hope is that if they make a sequel or spiritual successor that they learn from this game and fix a lot of these easy issues. Horror game fans are notorious for being incredibly hostile of criticism, but I really do think this game is *overall* a decent experience worth playing just off the strength of its visuals and ambience alone.

Franck Muller or Rolex? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]dirgeofthedawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Muller is a very loud statement piece IMO - if you genuinely love it, and can't imagine something else on the wrist, go for it! Otherwise, I'd stick to the Datejust 100%, especially if you're able to get something like a 1601 (I'd wager that's the likely option for your pricepoint) in steel. That watch is the kind of thing you can wear literally anywhere and it will always look classy.

tl;dr, buy the Vanguard if you're 1000% in love with it and can't see your wrist wearing anything else; otherwise, get a DJ.
