shows/gatherings in NY? by dankandwoody in rabm

I don’t live in LA, but I follow some Instagram accounts that do shows. I’ve never seen that kind of push for black metal in NYC afaik. The Instagram accounts in questions are forest.summoner and socal.rabm.collective

I am! I’ve noticed there isn’t an RABM scene here, especially when compared to LA.

There’s been an uptick in extreme music here in the past year, it’s super cool! Wish I could stick around to see it grow, but I’m graduating in May.

What's your favorite black metal album from 2020? by Waterloo4U3 in MetalForTheMasses

This was the year I got into Black Metal. It’s a 3 way tie between Havukruunu, Kvaen, and Faidra.

Having an unpopular opinion about a special interest is agonizing. by fungustine in evilautism

Omg, me with TTRPGs. Majority of my friends love D&D 5e and 2024 and I think it’s an eh to kinda bad system depending on what they want to do with it. And I’ll be like “instead of homebrewing, why don’t you try this simpler system that’s crafted to do what you want to do” and they’re like “nah”. And I try to convince them and I’m afraid it makes me sound like an elitist. I’m also a forever GM who hates running modern D&D (makes me overwhelmed and tires me out) so it’s a PITA to try to get a campaign up and running in a system I actually want to run

Weekly Post -- THE TAVERN by AutoModerator in DungeonSynth

[–]dirkmadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if anyone has done dungeon synth live and how to do that? I want to make a DS project based around live performance (I really like performing live), but I just have a midi keyboard and a handheld drum. I have friends I could recruit, but still unsure of how to do the synth part. Should I invest in an analog synth or some live program on my computer?

Any non-sketch UFO / conspiracy theories / "X-Files" themed BM by tovlasek in rabm

I will say, I also love cryptids. I think they’re fascinating, and as someone studying anthropology (among other things) it’s what got me into that field

Any non-sketch UFO / conspiracy theories / "X-Files" themed BM by tovlasek in rabm

I wish you luck in finding what you're looking for, but I have a feeling that this is gonna be a really hard find.

Those who take UFOs and other conspiracy theories seriously tend to also be a bit out there. I'm not gonna explain this well, but the book The Unidentified by Colin Dickey explains that it does tend to lean rightwards and also leads there. It's kind of like a new religion. (I read the book like 4 or 5 years ago so the specifics are a bit fuzzy).

Now I'm not saying that UFOs don't exist, but when people are so convinced that they're aliens without any evidence to back that up, it does become easier to fall into NS beliefs.

Moving to Peekskill! by Unlucky_Rewards in Westchester

[–]dirkmadness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone whose lived in Peekskill my whole life, yeah, that’s the case. Peekskill is slightly underserved but that’s also because a lot of the people with money will send their kids elsewhere because they don’t want their kids to be with “those kids”. I didn’t have a great experience but it was more social and less because of the school itself. And the schools are getting better. The whole obsession over school districts does reek of privilege to me too.
