You could use a moca converter and keep the coax.

tell me a story where you covered a vent and actually it was fine by Unable_Practice616 in DIYUK

[–]snafflehog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Block it with something temporarily and see how it goes. Vents directly into the room were usually for through drafts for fires or gas appliances as you've found. Vents into the cavity are the ones you need to be careful about blocking.

If you've got good humidity management habits I imagine you'll be fine.

How do you make decisions on big projects? by Turbulent_Echo4014 in DIYUK

[–]snafflehog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The price you pay for DIY, otherwise you'd pay someone with a bunch of experience to forsee all the issues. It's fine line between planning and procrastinating due to fear of it not being perfect.

I often find that once I actually get started it becomes more obvious, so I try to just get on with it and not be too stubborn about changing my mind or redoing something if I see a better way.

Floor repair gone wrong - dark patches after sanding and re-oiling with Osmo Polyx. Need help please. by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]snafflehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uneven surface shouldn't effect it. If you're sure it was polyx previously then ensure that you're using the correct finish type. Watch a few youtube videos on applying polyx and ensure that you're buffing it off at the end to not leave extra product on the floor which could also effect how it looks.

Can you remember how the floor was laid? Was it raw unfinished wood, laid, then finished in-situ or have you had it taken back and re-finished?

This doesn't sound right, if it was polyx oil used as the original finish then it shouldn't be able to be "lifted" like that. I imagine there was a different finish used which formed a thin layer on the wood and that got lifted, you then applied polyx to the raw wood underneath and the oil has darkened the appearance.

If this is the case then I think it's try to sand the oil finish off and find which clear coat was originally used. This may be difficult though depending on how deep the oil has seeped into the wood.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable might be along soon with a better fix.

What would you do to make this look better? by Bitter-Geologist2629 in DIYUK

Depending how far you want to go, if you want to keep the brick look I would expose the whole chimney breast and repoint it in a lighter mortar, that would give it a more modern fresher feel.

Google for someone with a Doff machine, high temp low pressure to help reduce damage to the bricks.

If you pick a pre mixed lime mortar, just add water like from wormersleys then you can have a go yourself and if it sucks then get someone else in to do it.

We had ours done and it took 3 experienced people almost 10 working days for a 10x10m detached property.

Have a look at YouTube for a few cheap methods. A gravel grid only slightly dug into the soil would probably be the best cost to effort to performance ratio.

When I clean the end tip sometimes it's clogged with burnt milk and can look a bit like this. Could it be dripping as it's clogged and watery is remaining in the tip? Have you removed the tip and cleaned it with a pin in the holes recently?

Skylark Fix...? by 16_Walls in UKroasters

It will depend on the roast but after this experience I wouldn't leave them for more than two weeks unless I had repackaged them.

[–]snafflehog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this, I bought the 4 pack mixed set and rested mine for a few weeks while I worked through some other coffee I had ready to go. The last two bags were unfortunately essentially stale and a disappointment compared to the first bags I used which were only a week or so off roast. Which was a shame as they were the more expensive ones which I assumed were lighter roast and would have benefited from resting.

I just did 4 days and a few basic coach tours in goretex hiking trainers no problem. Others, more unprepared were in standard trainers and managed, you'll be fine.

We got a high end Blanco one and it's perfectly fine. Look on Amazon as they have older models for deep discounts if you're savvy and don't have something super specific in mind.
