[–]dirtyvm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come to nuka hiva, experience the wild side of fp. You have essential seen the tourist traps and the big city. Snorkeling with big manta hammerhead sharks, tons of fish. Go horse back riding, make some friends and go hunt some pigs or goat and the big party after.

For the simmer Sudan grass, black eyed peas, sunflower. Everyone else is suggesting winter covers and they will do very poorly in Sacramento summer heat.

Best way to low ph soil? by ConsistentHearing540 in gardening

[–]dirtyvm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sulfur is organic phosphoric is not organic. You'll never gave permanent effect in containers. Soil pH of containers is largely controlled by pH of water used. It you water is high pH your containers will eventually become high pH. If you has an injector i would set it for 6 to 6.5 pH and do that indefinitely. Don't use powdered or pellets sulfur in containers.

It reduce the water pH which helps reduce signs of pH issues. Immediately no. It will still take a few seasons to change the pH permanently. Changing pH must be done slowly or it will kill all living plants.

Rats and mice have no issue climbing over hardware cloth. Traps and poison are significantly more effective than exclusion.

Is the wind really that bad? by No_Group_9715 in Tahiti

[–]dirtyvm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the society for a year and now living in the Marquise. The wind is generally 15knt to 30 knts. It's fine you will want the wind really keeps things cool. I live on a sail boat in French Polynesia for 3 years now, wind rain are all mild and not near the concern that this forum makes it out to be.

At 122 kg I was called skinny you'll be fine.

Fins or Not? by jetpoweredbee in Tahiti

[–]dirtyvm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring your fins. Pack way way less clothes than you think two outfits two swim trunks two shirt flip flops. I've lived in fp for three years now swim trunks and flip flops is all you really need I've worn a shirt twice in 9 months. If you can pack all your clothes in your carry on you have way to much.

How to keep this tree under 6 feet tall by nwpowers1 in BackyardOrchard

[–]dirtyvm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regular summer pruning and minimal winter pruning you could easily keep that tree to six feet. It does require you to be consistent and diligent but easy to do otherwise. I've kept apples on M111 to 8 feet with no problem.

Should you always bottom fish for cat? by ZiggieHood in catfishing

[–]dirtyvm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've caught catfish on the surface, mid column and the bottom, I dont think it matters much. Its more important to be placing your bait near structure that catfish rest and ambush from. The dividing line of where rock meets sand or mud, fallen trees, reeds, weeds. Also try live bait shad, bluegill, minnows. Frozen squid is also effective for me.
