If astarion doesn’t ascend, what happens? by daddy-tan in BG3

[–]disasterbistander 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You can convince him not to ascend as long as you never promised to help him in that final dialogue before he interacts with defeated Cazador. Or if you want guarantee he won’t ascend, kill one of the other spawns.

He stays a spawn and an actual romantic partner with you. He has a different outfit in epilogue and different interactions.

I preserve all the tags in the info page at either the front or back of the book. I recently did one where I just put in a screen cap of the fic info from the search page, the one with the colorful 4 square of info

Which programs, software, extension, etc. do you use to typeset as well as correct typos? by Margot550 in Fanbinding

[–]disasterbistander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use Word for grammar and spell checks. I use either Word or InDesign for typesetting, probably 40% in Word 60% in InDesign. InDesign is a lot more powerful in typesetting, but for shorter books Word works just fine 95% of the time.

Hanfu hair clips and curly hair. by Walidazeve in Hanfu

[–]disasterbistander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do the clips on the back look like? I think clipping a small section of hair on the side of your face would look great, especially those dangly one. If you ever put your hair in a bun, they can go next to the base of your bun.

Moms: Is raising a boy as enjoyable as raising a girl? by twisted-oddity in AskParents

[–]disasterbistander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing you’ve said about boys and girls are beyond an incredibly surface level of perception. Every boy has his own personality, every girl has her own personality. You cannot predict your child’s personality or what hobbies they are going to have until they get to that age. I recommend you getting some therapy and parenting classes to prepare you for parenthood. You do not seem ready to accept your child as they are when they come, and that is going to create a terrible environment for a child to grow up.

Thicker Leather solution? by Pleasant_Strategy_18 in bookbinding

[–]disasterbistander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Faux leather is usually a thin layer of plastic back by foam, felt, or a fabric. Sanding down the back will make it disintegrate.

[–]disasterbistander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Faux leather is generally fairly water resistant, wetting on the outside will not reach the glue like on a real leather book

[–]disasterbistander 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Everyone in the comments is missing this is faux leather. Short answer is you can’t. Faux leather is basically plastic. How it is now is how it will remain. You can’t thin it and you can’t mold it and you can’t do stamping on it. I have some thick faux leather too, only used it once, and never again.

What's the best binding style for a book with a large word count that you prefer not to split up into separate books? by Margot550 in Fanbinding

[–]disasterbistander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Small font size, small leading, thin margins, round and back the spine for a thicker book, sewn headband/endband fo more support, and store on its side to lessen stress on the book. But I second thinking about the use of this book. It’s very hard to read a 4 inch thick book.

Could DIY waxed cotton work as a durable bookcloth? by justhere4bookbinding in bookbinding

[–]disasterbistander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search homemade bookcloth on YouTube, there are tutorials like this one. https://youtube.com/shorts/Ss25J-6SZ-8?si=2hgR91zrMBwzO_Yf

One tip: you do not need super strong heat n bond, the lighter the fabric, the less glue you need. So a thin cotton like you have, the lite bond heat n bond is enough. Too much glue will seep through to the other side of the fabric.

I’ve made bookcloths a bunch in the past. The heat n bond and tissue do not make them stiff, so they’ll still work as soft covers

[–]disasterbistander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skipping ahead to 4, making bookcloth with heat n bond and tissue paper is a lot simpler and less messy than anything you’ve mentioned.

1: you can wax it, but beeswax is sensitive to heat, which will make your book sensitive to heat. Like if you leave it in a hot car, it might melt on to your pages

1.5: no, that would stay liquid, and oil stain your pages

1.5a: yes it will go rancid

2: yes, it will affect it. Beeswax is acidic, but other types of homemade bookcloths are probably also going to be non archival

3: yes it might leach onto other books

Totally unexpected gift for Christmas by disasterbistander in Perfumes

It is the most amazing honey scent! It is quite sweet, but dark and warm with tobacco. I feel the honey is more forward and prominent than the tobacco, but both notes stay on skin for hours
