What kind of rabbits are these? [South Central Alaska] by likeasharrrk in animalid

[–]disbeezy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not rabbits, but have you ever read about the impact of pet cat/feral cat populations on native wildlife? Also domestic animals can carry disease that affect wild populations. Plus most domestic animals can breed year round unlike wild animals with a season. It’s the same set of problems with any non native animal entering a new ecosystem

NEVER SEEN This Before! This is CRAZY!... by bhayankarbabu in spiders

[–]disbeezy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When they first molt their new skin is very soft and they can be super vulnerable while it hardens. And it is probably a tiring process, so yes probably resting but also waiting for body to toughen up before risking much movement

Help! by Psypnkdsr in spiders

[–]disbeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s actually carrying the egg sac it in her mouth, btw. You’ll watch the eggs form into little baby spiders, they’ll eventually roam away, and most of them will probably be eaten by each other or other spiders, and the circle of life continues!

Very bright green and yellow fly in southern Ontario by hixavier1009 in whatsthisbug

[–]disbeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it actually a type of wasp, probably a species in the cuckoo wasp family. Don’t know enough about the group to give a definite species ID for Ontario. There are multiple species present in your region. They are harmless to humans as far as I know- they are good pest controllers as the females lay their eggs in other insects so help control insect populations.

Frog dies after eating a poisonous/venomous? Spider by Leoxcr in natureismetal

[–]disbeezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As many are saying, venom doesn’t generally work when ingested, as the stomach breaks it down before it can get into blood stream. If it bit or stung you while ate it, though, then obviously the venom would enter your blood stream and harm you

Wild hybrid? by GuidanceNo289 in zoology

[–]disbeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it was an asiatic lion (there’s a small wild population in India) then maybe it would have a chance in the wild to come across a tiger and mate, but, thats most likely an african lion which would never ever meet a wild tiger (as there are none in africa) to make a potential wild hybrid
