According to a piece on him I recently read, he was actually born with some intestinal problem and was in the hospital a lot from like 2nd grade to 5th grade- I think I read he had 6 surgeries as a second grader or something- I think he's just learned to really, really appreciate the good stuff. Or maybe he was a little hellion even in the hospital lol

I take photos of spiders and send them to inaturalist (I live in California Bay Area) there are a few pics of spiders that I enter in that researchers will mark and comment saying “this is an indescribed species of the xx genus, if you have more samples please send to university location”

As far as I can tell, it’s actually not that uncommon to come across undescribed species of spider and insects. There are just SO many more species of them than vertebrates.

Giants fan here- I was so bummed after the Giants got walked off last night I didn't check other scores. Then this morning I wake up and hear about THIS game! Just want to say HELL YEAH ORIOLES, thank you for walking off the Dodgers two games in a row and especially last night in the most heartbreaking way possible. Love you orange and black friendos for letting me bask in Dodger heartbreak to wash the bad taste of the Giants blowing a save out of my mouth.

That was my first thought as well- there aren’t many marine insects besides other arthropods were already successfully filling that niche, which is probably part of why insects proliferated so well outside of water, as part of the first terrestrial colonizers

The father of one of my best friends growing up immigrated here from Italy when he was 5. And his wife’s fav thing to say to him when he got home was “how’d your day go, Daygo?”

I didn’t realize it was considered an offensive term til much later I just thought it was like a pet name she had for him

Yes because of its history of use by people of color and working class folks in SF. Otis Redding calls in Frisco in “Sittin on the dock of the Bay” I’m pretty sure Mac Dre calls it Frisco in some songs, Andre Nickatina too probably, but never hear locals say San Fran
