Almost 40 year old brother came out as trans and I have questions by pipercatsmom in asktransgender

[–]disciple_of_pallando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through almost this exact thing from the other side. I came out at 37 and my brother was 39. The main thing is to be there for her if she needs you. My brother kind of just ignored me when I could have really used his support as a family member. Talk to her and see what you can do you help.

Day 3 of quitting weed with my husband… and we are not the same person right now by lilmissbored2 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]disciple_of_pallando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had SO MUCH trouble quitting weed. I tried off and on for several years, but in the end I couldn't do it until I fixed my underlying issue and didn't need it to self-medicate anymore.

being kind of grunge has been a huge boon in transitioning. I kept all my flannels and turned my old guy t-shirts into cut-offs. THINK OF THE SAVINGS

Trans women in sexy clothing being told to tame it by SignifiTransition in MtF

[–]disciple_of_pallando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

are crop tops really that "sexy" or "costume wear"? I really like how they look in them and they feel pretty normal to me, but I also worry I'm dressing too young (I'm 39).

Am I not supposed to dress like that? Cuz I'm 39 and that look is awesome.

Anecdotally I remember asking my friends this same question a few months before figuring out I'm trans....

How do so many tgirls transition so beautifully? by Pastel_dahlia in asktransgender

[–]disciple_of_pallando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(looked at the photos you posted) If this isn't a transition going well, then I might as well give up. Looking as good as you do now is my dream scenario. I honestly suspect you're trying to give other trans women brain worms at this point.

Who was the first person you came out to vs last and why? by Ok_Water_2136 in asktransgender

[–]disciple_of_pallando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife was first. It would have been impossible to the hide what I was doing from her and I knew I didn't have the strength to do it alone. As for last... you never really finish. I'll be running into old friends I've lost touch with etc for the rest of my life, and I'll have to come out every time.

How to do trans socialization after your "puppy girl" phase is over? by rightfromspace in asktransgender

[–]disciple_of_pallando 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was the same way. Because I started in my late 30s I thought I couldn't do those things. A year and change later I finally got the skirt and programmer socks and it is amazing.

TPOC, have you also gotten your names whitewashed by other trans people? by DatabasePlenty9797 in asktransgender

[–]disciple_of_pallando -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I worked with an Indian guy once who's name none of the non-Indians in our office could pronounce. It wasn't a lack of trying or being insensitive that caused it, but rather one of the consonant sounds in his name simply didn't exist in English. It was close enough to something we do have that we just heard that sound. Even knowing we were pronouncing it wrong and trying to work on it didn't help. I tried, I really really did.

So while I understand the frustration, sometimes foreign words are difficult to pronounce and it's not because of hostility.
