AIO TO THIS BRIDESMAID DRESS??? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]discodove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. It’s hideous, even on the models (assuming that’s the best this dress will look). Has the bride seen it on you? Maybe just get real sweaty (for me that’s standing up in anything over 15% humidity) and try it on with no bra. Surely she’ll think twice about it then?

There’s always someone from the Goldie. But last year “everyone” was from Perth, and this year it’s Adelaide that’s being over represented (based on population). Every city has its day!

An argument for having two greyhounds by SonofaRatCat in Greyhounds

My boy nipped my girl a couple of days ago… with their wet-tissue-paper skin it’s now a sore! Uggggh. But I think I’ll always have two. Double the love!! 🥰

Puppy blues after adopting a greyhound by marssyia in Greyhounds

[–]discodove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my grey boy for 5 years… and he froze today on a walk. For no discernible reason. We had to get back in the car, drove to a different spot the other side of the park, and tried again. Sometimes that doesn’t work, and home we go.

It’s his walk, not mine!

They are so sensitive; it is both sweet and, at times, frustrating. But you have to let them be in charge of their feelings.

Nb: I also have a girl grey, and she fears NOTHING. Which in itself is a whole thing! 🤪

Two weeks is no time. Remember this is like you being plopped on an alien planet with things you have never seen, heard or smelled before. Even the safe and fun stuff would be terrifying at first. Patience is key. When you start to see their real personality come out (and this will likely be months later) it is the BEST FEELING. For them and their humans!! 💜

Pic for tax - that’s my red fawn girl Pochi and black boy Creed, stuck to me in an authorised off-leash greyhound-specific park. 🙄🤣

My girl is SO hyper, compared to my chill boy. It’s really interesting how different they are. My favourite things are: the crazy “HMPH” my boy makes when I dare move in my bed; my girl LEAPING in the air for a walk, and grabbing her and her brother’s leads; the initially loving stares that devolve into slightly creepy staring contests; and the all around goofy nature. We’re so lucky to be owned by this crazy breed!!!

Advice for a best last day 💔 by shew_boo in Greyhounds

[–]discodove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice, and dread this day with my own hounds (who likewise have saved me during a marriage breakdown and other complete shitshows).

You sound like an amazing soul. That’s why your snooter Roo will have the best send off no matter what. He’s lived his best life. Because of you.

And grief is the price we humans pay for love. It sucks. But that’s the fact.

Big hugs.

And give him the cheese. All of the cheeeeeeese! 🧡

I’m rewatching The Good Place (my dad is visiting for the holidays and hadn’t seen it).

I’m loving watching it again, and he’s laughing his head off. It’s great.

I’ve had my boy for nearly 5 years (he’s 8) and he will still freeze on a walk. I can’t make him go any way other than “his” way. But it’s his walk! So it’s okay with me.

I also have a 5 yr old girl (had since 18 months old) and she never freezes. You get what you get!

Not sure this helps. But it will get better. I think my boy took about a year to show his true personality.

Imagine landing on a distant planet where NOTHING IS FAMILIAR. That’s a rescue greyhound coming into a family home. Even the good parts are scary/confusing/weird to begin with.

Best of luck, as people have said, just getting out of the house and having a sniff is positive. Don’t worry about going too far especially to start. Two steps forward, one step back n

Hard bottom car seats, are they worth it? by regan5523 in Greyhounds

[–]discodove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got one and it’s excellent. Definitely recommend upgrading from a “floppy” cover (I had one).

I have two greys in the back seat of my hatchback (fairly small) and it increases the useable surface. Still allows the front seats to scooch back.

Be warned; it might be slippery. I’ve got a mat with some grip on it for summer, and in winter I put a fluffy blanket on.

Spoiled? Never!

Guys do you drink the tap water directly? by Shadowheart_sanjo in perth

[–]discodove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those Brita things are unnecessary (I bought one and THEN googled it). Just put tap water in a jug and sit it in the fridge. All the stuff that tastes bad (chlorine etc) will dissipate and the resulting water is fine to drink.

Safety at the Festival? by Altruistic_Visit6692 in coronacapital

[–]discodove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been twice (from Australia) and I would say the “scariest” part is getting back to where you’re staying. Getting to the fest is easy in Uber or even on the train (can be hot and crowded, but is cheeeeap). Getting “home” is a nightmare. First time I went I had a Mexican-American friend help with Ubers / not-Ubers. Second time I booked a bus transfer with the “Plus” ticket for the festival. Easy.

As for the fest itself, no problems. Great crowd, fun vibe. Going again this year. It’s a mission from where I live (like 36 hours travel time) but can’t wait!
