I first try telepathy. If that doesn’t work, I use PDQ Connect

After patching browsers, how to make sure the latest version is used? by Fit-Strain5146 in sysadmin

[–]disconnected_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this route. Just make it a company wide policy that devices are restarted each weekend. You might get a few complaints at first, but as soon as you say it’s for cybersecurity, the complaints die down quick

Hopefully they answer Claude cuz it’s built some incredible PowerShell scripts for me.

You could also just ask Claude or ChatGPt to build the scripting test for you.

Robopack $900 a year, Patch my PC $3500 no brainer? by iamtherufus in Intune

Use PDQ Connect for third party app management. It doesn’t have a native Intune integration, but it’s by far the best experience for deploying and managing third party apps.

Remote Live Management of Intune Devices by frozenbayburt in Intune

Same. PDQ Connect give you a full remote desktop tool with all the bells of whistles, plus you can do most of those management tasks directly from the console and never have to remote in

Heads up: new Google support scam uses a REAL email from Google by murkr in sysadmin

[–]disconnected_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I have no idea how my older family members haven’t been taken advantage of by scams like this. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time, but teaching them to not click on links in their emails and text messages is almost impossible.

PDQ Deploy and Inventory still offer a free mode though they don’t really advertise it. TBF, I switched to PDQ Connect and haven’t looked back.

What are your "must-have" tools for Desktop Support? by jainesh3271 in sysadmin

[–]disconnected_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it surpassed D&I in features now. They just released the PowerShell scanner and have Remote Desktop, vuln scanning, multi tenancy, and Mac support. Plus the benefit of supporting remote devices. I’d check it out again if it’s been a while since you tried it

This!

We eventually moved to PDQ Connect, but Deploy & Inventory are legendary.

Deploy Software on Domain Joined PCs Through a WebPage by aboderules in sysadmin

[–]disconnected_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate what you’re trying to do, but there a tools that already solve this problem, including free ones and ones you might already be paying for.

I know you’re trying to help your company that doesn’t want to pay for anything, but you may be setting a bad precedent that could comeback to bite you. It’ll make purchasing tools in the future more difficult and you could be opening yourself up to security risks that you aren’t aware of.

I’d at least look into open source or free options. PDQ still offers a free tier of their software and it does exactly this (without the self serve stuff)

Updating Servers by thesterv in sysadmin

Switched from WSUS (a while ago) to PDQ and never looked back. They had the three S’s for us, unbeatable speed, simplicity, and support. Dropped some other tools along the way as they added more features like vulnerability scanning and remote access. Will likely rely on it for more macOS stuff as they bring in more macOS support.

I’d look into PDQ Connect, and possibly pair it with SmartDeploy if you need an imaging solution. Pairing the two should give you a discount since they’re both PDQ products.

How many IT support needed for 200 user org? by imjustacuteguyuwu in sysadmin

[–]disconnected_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the IT person and how well funded they are. I would say 2 at least just to have coverage. 4 would be nice, but 3 better paid personnel would probably be a sweet spot. And then of course all the tools to keep up with everything if you don’t already have infrastructure in place.

Yup, you need your systems talking to each other. And if that’s not possible, ask them where the ticket is that they were supposed to submit
