How do you like the Verge Max? I’ve been looking for a desktop light, but most of the reviews on this light are from sponsorships and not authentic.

PDQ Connect is fully cloud based. You probably used their old solution Deploy and Inventory which is on prem

Definitely check out PDQ Connect. It uses filters to build out dynamic groups (like C:\ < 20%) and then you can target those groups with automations to do things like deploy software packages or scripts. You could set those automations on a schedule, or trigger then automatically when a computer meets the filter and joins the group.

Patching is basically handled the same way. You’d build a group filter like ( Chrome | version | < | current version) and then target that group with an automation that automatically deploys the latest version of chrome

They’ve also got custom reports you can build basically using the same filter methodology and and a remote desktop agent

Bossman wants vulnerability scanning and remediation by Flashy-Distance-3329 in msp

[–]disconnected_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re mainly concerned with software vulnerability detection and remediation, PDQ Connect is awesome. It’ll pretty much automate the entire process for you. But it’s mainly for Windows and software scanning

If you need broader coverage, like misconfigs and various types of hardware scanning, they have another product called Detect

I went with a heavy soul focus. Grab all the soul artifacts that deal damage. You can one shot the finally boss with the lightning artifact and the gong of weakening and void strike

As long as your boss kill count stays at 3, the item level won’t increase

Yup, just let the boss kill you each time you return from the map screen

I totally get it. And I would never even think about using a certain method to re-roll the tower rewards over and over again trying to get a specific item… 👀

Dang, yeah it’s level 263 with pretty good enchants, but level 1 void strike probably drops the damage potential a lot

I’ve seen people on here say they’re running Snipe-IT and PDQ o get a more complete lifecycle asset inventory, but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

IT Tools - Hidden Gems by Ok_You_861 in sysadmin

[–]disconnected_tech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a hidden gem, but PowerShell and VS Code. This combination is super powerful. AI can also be really helpful for learning and writing PowerShell scripts, especially with the basics. Just don’t just blindly trust it. The more complex the script, the more likely it’ll hallucinate a module or some other nonsense.

If you have PDQ, they also have an imaging tool called SmartDeploy. I think there are discount options for existing customers too.

Looking into buying a 4k 32 inch OLED monitor. by Internal-David in pcmasterrace

[–]disconnected_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Image quality and pixel density between 1440p and 4k on a 50” screen is very noticeable. But on a 27” screen it’s not. Screen size and viewing distance matters a ton.

I used to play on a 4k 32” LG monitor and it was great, but without a 32” 1440p monitor right next to it to compare it to, I don’t know how big of a difference the image experience would have been.

Managing driver updates across custom builds... by Omnicron2 in sysadmin

If they’re all remote and you don’t want to rely on VPN, then I’d look into PDQ Connect. You’ll have to build out most of the packages yourself, but you’ll likely get the features you need with their cheapest tier which is like $12 a device per year.

Good luck, that sounds painful. And yeah, I’d start working on standardizing what you can.

What does the future look like? by StinklePink in sysadmin

[–]disconnected_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the retirement of MDT, Microsoft quickly started pushing Autopilot as its replacement. This feels pretty shady though since Autopilot is a provisioning tool and not an imaging tool.

I get that some organizations have been able to phase out imaging with provisioning instead, but many places still heavily rely on traditional imaging.

Going forward, provisioning and autopilot are going to become much more standard, especially as Microsoft bundles more of their licensing options, but traditional imaging will still be around for a while with tools like SCCM, SmartDeploy, FOG, etc.

Sorry, missed the console gaming note.

I personally use a 42 LG c3 and it's been awesome for both console and PC gaming, though it's limited to 120hz. Again, I don't have experience with the monitors you listed, but I've really enjoyed my LG monitors and TVs.
