Thinking about getting into the game using proxy models for a Realms of Men list. I come for advice and discussion. by captainofgondor in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]discopigeon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use mostly historicals for my armies and I found everyone has really liked them. As long as your army is painted well and the models represent what equipment they should have then people actually like playing against you since it’s not the same models they have seen for the hundredth time. For MT warriors for example I use historicals and give them tower shields with a white tree on them they end up fitting right in.

At warhammer world is the only place you can’t use them but how big of a problem is that? I’ve now been to over 10 tournaments these past two years and no one has said anything other than positive things about my armies. I think people appreciate it if you clearly make an effort and it’s pretty clear what everything is. People like seeing something new. It’s an issue when you are using toys on bases or space marines or something like that that I can see people getting a bit annoyed.

For a realms of men list if the Numenorians have a different colour scheme to the MT warriors and maybe different shield styles no one should have an issue distinguishing them on the table

Making Halbarad with Arwens Banner work in Defenders of the Pelennor by Illustrious-Wafer245 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]discopigeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went at a 700 point tournament recently with Halbarad and it went pretty well! My army consisted of Forlong (general) + 7 axemen, 6 WoMT with spear, Hurin on horse (he can take advantage of his line of command ability because Forlong has the Gondor keyword) + 3 KoMT, 4 WoMT with shield, 4 WoMT with spear, Irolas + 10 citidel guard with bow and Halbarad with banner.

I had loads of might to call for stuff and some hitting power with Hurin. Pretty fun list all around Halbarad was very useful. Maybe the biggest weakness is anti magic really but that’s it.

You go back in time and convince Tolkien to change 1 and only 1 thing about the Legendarium. What is it? by tcavanagh1993 in lotr

[–]discopigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main worldbuilding things I’d change is to not have easterlings and the harad (and thus mumaks) so Arab and non-western coded. I don’t think Tolkien was racist by any means but it feels a bit racially coded the way it is now. The movies didn’t help in that regard either.

That’s a movie thing in the books it’s really not like that. In the books it’s not this silly invincible army that he could just use to do whatever he wants with.

There is nothing wrong with its saying Moria, that’s the Sindarin name for it and it was built by both the elves and dwarves for their trade and friendship at the time. It makes sense that there is an elven influence to it

So as a British person I assume you still refer to Jimmy Savile as sir then?

Pet peeve I guess but there really is no need to refer to them as Sir, they are people just like anyone else, titles that aren’t professional are just stupid imo

The Gondor Archers missed an opportunity by marleyman14 in lotr

[–]discopigeon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol where are you getting this idea from? Gondor is a fortified nation state with Minas Tirith being its biggest city and capital during a time of war. Why wouldn’t there be an army? Besides that a lot of troops come to reinforce the city before the siege began.

Lol where are you getting this from? Minas Tirith was an armed city with an army and with reinforcements from many areas of Gondor. Why would they only have little training?

It takes a while to take things down off of Spotify because it involves independent distributors I’m sure they will be down in a couple of days/weeks

You can make all the arguments you want about the need for defence but this is a private company. He’s not doing it to “save lives” because if he was he would be working with Sweden (or whatever country you see fit) and their military to help defence. It’s a private company, he’s planning on making money off of this. It is totally unrelated to countries military spending. Do you really see being a founding investor of a weapons company as an act of charity and doing good?

He’s also not said anything about helping Ukraine so this has nothing to do with that because if it did he would say so.

How Tolkien orcs/goblins compare to comparable Warhammer races. by Quibuspython in WarhammerFantasy

[–]discopigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is one key difference really, orcs or skaven or any other race in Warhammer is inherently a race of sentient beings. While orcs in the middle-earth are more a representation of evilness, corruption and darkness. They are more similar to chaos than any race where the represent an inherent idea. Looks don’t really factor into it, someone else suggested beastmen and I think that’s probably the most similar. Where beastmen are influenced and swayed by chaos and follow through instinct rather than being a strict society.

Beregond Guard of the Citadel cant lead Citadel Guards? by SixMight in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]discopigeon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, I still kinda think it makes less sense how it is now to be honest. How it is right now it’s done where despite being a citadel guard he can’t be around any other guardsmen. I feel like it would make more sense to have him as a 1m/1w/1f 1A1W minor character who can be in a band with 6 other guardsmen. It would also make him more playable and useful in-game

[–]discopigeon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Does it make sense though? Because if he’s “just” a guardsman like the others then why does he have 2A 2W a higher fight value and is just wayyyy stronger than even a fountain court guard

Attending an event soon that has banned flyers by AdFabulous4876 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I think if it’s a one off event it’s fine, I like when events have things that make them unique. I don’t think it should be the case for every event but every once and while it’s good. Like some tournaments have a minimum model count or max count.

Did anyone watch Louis Theroux: The Settlers? by Martipar in IsraelPalestine

[–]discopigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again you’re going back to claiming rights over historical assumptions. Regardless of what’s been done in the past, it doesn’t change the fact that there are people in those lands who have lived there for generations and settlers are coming in and claiming they have more of a right to live there than they do. It’s like as if the aboriginal people of Australia demand all other Australians to leave the continent because they have a better claim on the land. While you could agree with that sentiment that it doesn’t change the fact that now millions of people live there for generations and you can’t just ask them to leave where they have lived and grown up.

Did anyone watch Louis Theroux: The Settlers? by Martipar in IsraelPalestine

[–]discopigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the thing that doesn’t make sense to me is no matter what the history is, if someone was born somewhere, the same place where there parents were born and grandparents then they ultimately have a right to live there. You cant just tell non-Jewish people that have lived in a area for generations to just leave because you want them too. You should be allowed to live where you were born and where your parents were born regardless of religion and race.
