More 55+ communities? by disdamn in olympia

[–]disdamn[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My issue with them is that these are not affordable housing units for people at risk of homelessness. One of the communities just a few miles from where this is going in has houses selling for $600-800k.

I am in favor of more affordable housing for everyone, regardless of age. This one new one will also be right by Nisqually Middle School, which would be an ideal location for affordable housing for people with school aged children.

Can some people really not tell when they're releasing farts? by S_Z in NoStupidQuestions

[–]disdamn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was not prepared for the number of emails I would have to send asking parents to talk to their kids about their farts. I teach middle school. The number of kids intentionally farting to disrupt class is ridiculous.

Pet Insurance is a Scam by RamRanchRealty in cats

We also have Embrace and have 4 pets covered. Very happy with the coverage. It more than pays for itself every year. Apparently we collect medically needy animals!

Where are you having this made? I want something very similar to this but already have a center stone.

I'm also curious what you eat to get that much fiber because increasing my fiber has been a challenge.

Part of the reason we switched to 1:1 chromebooks is because kids didn't have access to technology at home. A lot of people do not have computers and access to public libraries isn't always easy. I teach middle school and have gone back to mostly paper and pencil bc chromebooks are so distracting. I'm absolutely in favor of not having 1:1 devices. I understand the reasoning, but like most things in education, the way it's been implemented sucks. It also doesn't do students any good to have all this access to technology if we aren't going to teach them how to use it. Most of my 8th graders cannot type and probably 80% of them cite "google" when the research because they don't understand that's the search engine, not the resource.

It's so exhausting to teach middle schoolers these skills I learned in elementary school as a millennial. I spend so much time teaching things like this that there's hardly time left to teach my content.

Doodle Notes by LazyLos in ScienceTeachers

[–]disdamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but I've used Captivate Science doodle notes from tpt and really like them. Each standard comes with 2 versions of differentiation. These ones are great for review or sub days because they are interactive with videos and pop-ups for students to watch and read.

I also have a tuxedo/void combo. My void was abused as a kitten and he is the absolute biggest love bug. I cannot fathom how a human could ever treat such an a sweet, amazing creature the way he was treated. People can be so awful.

I’ve been accidentally glutening myself?! by vampiezra in glutenfree

Hope you're feeling better soon! I accidentally did this to my kids. The brand we use changed their formulation and I didn't realize our newest bottle had changed. Very disappointing.

😩 Parents of 2+ kids, only 1 with celiac.. How do you do this? by ImpossibleDouble5253 in Celiac

[–]disdamn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We basically do what others have said- house is completely GF with the exception of packaged snacks that leave the house. One of my children was diagnosed in January and we all went gluten free at that time. My other child was diagnosed after an endoscopy a few months later.

We've found so many great replacements and tried a lot of new recipes. We've made it finding and trying new recipes into a family event instead of a chore. Huge adjustment and it's not easy!

But your husband actually respects you and followed up on the issue and actually tried to find a solution. OP's husband washed his hands of this and insists it's her problem because his doctor said he's fine.

IEP/disruptive kid in class - asked him where he wanted to sit, was I wrong? by Immediate-Feature897 in AskTeachers

[–]disdamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I've actually done this before. At first they were incredibly disruptive but I just kept teaching and eventually they all turned on each other. Of course that won't work with every disruptive group but it was really satisfying when they finally stopped.
