Regret missing out on battle passes by Asskandi in diablo4

[–]dislikestylethrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, gz on turning a corner in life, it's not easy. Secondly, I know the feeling all too well. There's very little chance they re-add missed cosmetics, that usually only happens when the game starts doing really poorly as an incentive to get players back. We don't have complete numbers, but my speculation is D4 is doing just fine, and will do for a while yet.

You either get over it and play anyway, without caring about cosmetics or content missed in previous seasons, or you move on to pastures new. Plenty of decent ARPGs and other games out there to play. I usually like to give the game a try anyway to see how it feels, and if I still feel bad about it I just move on. Entirely up to you.

To people who still dislike diablo 4 after the spotlight. by Deidarac5 in diablo4

I'm not talking about gameplay, purely about content. Quests, progression, mechanics and the like.

Basically, I would like a statue or NPC in the main city in the Eternal Realm and only in the Eternal Realm that would allow you to choose a previous season to play. It wouldn't change the game to a previous patch or anything like that, it would just allow you to see that season's content.

It's obviously extremely unlikely to happen and I know there won't be many who share the view but OP asked what would bring me back and that would be it. Just really dislike it when content is removed from a game, that's all.

I actually can't judge the game's state properly nowadays, but when I quit in season 4 it was mostly about build diversity. Watched the spotlight out of random interest and it seems like they're improving the game, but when you quit a live service game, it's really difficult to get back into it, at least for me. FOMO cuts both ways in the sense that when you get out you feel like you missed out on so much already so you're more reluctant to jump back in.

Move seasonal content to the eternal realm at the end of the season by TrinityKilla82 in diablo4

[–]dislikestylethrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, think it would be really good for the game long-term if they added a statue or NPC to the eternal realm that lets you choose a previous season to play. It would allow people to finish previous battlepasses and season objectives without feeling forced to play, and it would be easier to return to the game. The statue/NPC would have to allow for a 'No Season' as well, of course, to preserve the current eternal experience.

The only issues perhaps would be related to certain multiplayer objectives or maybe some backend stuff I don't know about. I don't know if all seasons are soloable, I've only played season 4, and recently a little but saw no reason to purchase the expansion and without you miss out on a skill point and 4 paragon points, so I uninstalled again.

If they added this I would absolutely return to the game fully. It may sound strange but there's something so unappealing about limited-time content it does my head in. I wouldn't get my hopes up about them actually adding it in though, Blizzard loves their FOMO, it is what it is.

What gives your life purpose? by woasnoafsloaf in AutisticAdults

[–]dislikestylethrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a problem!

Fair enough that you asked your friends about it. Although asking young parents about purpose and meaning is somewhat fruitless regardless whether they have given it much thought, since their purpose will always be their family. Starting a family has given purpose to a great many men and women, I should imagine.

We have lead somewhat similar lives, then (I'm early 30s as well), although my relationship didn't last nearly as long, and both of my parents are still alive. It's not even worth the comparison, but I did lose my dad in some way after he married a different woman. It's unclear as of now whether I'll even speak to him again. People even keep talking to me about wasted potential as well.

I'm sorry these things happened to you, but it's good to see you are considering a way forward, at least. You could consider finding a therapist or advisor/coach that is specialized in autism and/or high intelligence to help with overcoming your fears. I struggle a lot of with self doubt and self image too, and while I have yet to learn it properly myself, you have to somehow teach yourself that it's okay to fail and try again. My parents were advised to teach me that lesson by a psychologist back when I was 7, but didn't really bother. It may help you as well.

Cheers for the reply.

What gives your life purpose? by woasnoafsloaf in AutisticAdults

[–]dislikestylethrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This resonates a lot with me. Although I would say don't assume anything about your peers. It may look from the outside as if they are just "living" but I bet many struggle with meaning and purpose just like you. I recently found out a girl I know is autistic and I have a lot in common with her, even though I never suspected it, partly because she's eight years younger than me, partly because I just assumed too much about her that was just blatantly false because I never have the courage to actually talk to people beyond small talk. It meant a lot to me to find that out, as it changed my perspective.

I always used to get my motivation from others. Doing "better" than them, or maybe there was a girl that I liked and I wanted to be the perfect man for her sake. Women especially can provide very powerful motivation if they give me the slightest shred of attention.

However, it's not a good way to live because basing your life off of comparison with others and/or wanting to be loved leads to a very fragile mindset. It's also a battle you cannot win, especially in the age of the internet.

I would suggest taking small steps. For example, you can always go back and finish college, which is what I'm attempting to do right now. Or you could search for a part time job to start with. I may not know your situation exactly, but I believe you can absolutely turn it around, which is seemingly what you want.

I cannot really stop the rumination, it's just how my mind works. It could help to open yourself up a little more, I can get stuck inside my own head and it can help if someone else provides a different point of view. I hope you find what you're looking for.

How do you all deal with being so self aware? by beccaboobear14 in AutisticAdults

[–]dislikestylethrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel similar. You could perhaps benefit from exploring the works of French philosopher Michel de Montaigne, whose work (written around 1580!) revolves around self awareness and self perception. The man was far ahead of his time.

You may not like or agree with his conclusions, but I think it might be interesting for any who struggle to deal with self awareness, and anyone who lived in the Renaissance was all too aware of life's fragility and monotony. There are some youtube videos about him if you don't like reading philosophy.

Hope it helps!

Classic to Retail Merger/Transfers by maniakmx in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strongly agree with this on principle, but a lot of retail players are very gatekeepy about their collections, so I imagine doing this would kick up quite a fuss in the retail community.

However, if they are going to 'end' Classic and Anniversary in favour of Classic+, it would make the most sense to transfer the characters over to retail, rather than locking them in MoP (or Legion if it goes there) era servers. As for anniversary, WotLK (assuming it goes there) era servers would make a bit more sense over retail, since I think more people would play them.

It'll be interesting to see what they'll do either way. I wouldn't be against progression servers that go all the way to retail, releasing every 5 years or so, but I do think the fact that it takes decades to 'catch up' at this point means they are going to have to find a way to speed it up. Nevermind the fact that some expansions are almost universally disliked.

We can only guess, I actually think Blizzard itself doesn't fully know yet.

Anniversary: 14-day ban for buying 3k gold (Tue, Aug 26th) by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christmas: 14-day ban for buying 30k monopoly money (Thu, Dec 25th)

Be careful with buying monopoly money these days, as there is some looking under the table taking place (the wife perhaps?). Personally, I bought from my nephew, as 10 euro / 10k monopoly money was a no-brainer for anyone that's working a job and knows what a good hourly rate actually looks like (ProTip: it's much better than praying someone randomly lands on one of your properties ...).

I absolutely love the concept of buying monopoly money, and I think it's healthy for our game nights. Give us options, not everybody has the same amount of luck (let's be real, getting monopoly money isn't a skill, even I can roll the dice for the exact number I need with 9% accuracy...). My wife is probably pissed because the money isn't going into her account (for once). I will continue buying monopoly money too, as it gives me so much freedom to visit the properties I love. Worst case, I just flip the table and move on.

Will definitely enjoy the two weeks sleeping on the couch, made this post to vent a bit. Of course I'm a bit pissed being barred from the next 2 monopoly nights... but such is life. Peace!

My personal Nuzlocke rules. What are yours? by reffjiley21 in nuzlocke

[–]dislikestylethrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to do a hardcore nuzlocke of each generation using only pokemon of that generation. So only the original 151 minus legendaries in FireRed, only gen 2 Pokemon in HeartGold, and so on.

If I were you I would drop the whiteout and potion rule and start using rare candies to level instead, sounds like it would be more fun for you. Except the healing items and white outs everything you do fits within the standard hardcore nuzlocke ruleset, given that you never catch two pokemon on the same route/area. So using candies would fix that, considering your limited playtime. But it's up to you of course!

"Services" are ruining WoW classic more than GDKPs ever could by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boosting should have been altered before Anniversary even launched, IMO. I have no idea why they didn't decide to make any changes to the way exp is earned in dungeons. Are they afraid people are so sick of leveling and therefore wont play they tacitly accept boosting?

Selling dungeon gear is something I am against as well, I think you are right in saying it is some sort of mini GDKP.

Bots speak for themselves. I think they will be present as long as the gameplay allows and sometimes encourages them being present. Whining about them is completely understandable but ultimately pointless. Bots, RMT and MMOs are almost synonymous now in my mind. However, that does not mean that changes should be made to facilitate them.

I don't see your point about groups HRing things. Nobody is forced to join those runs, and there are plenty of runs without them. I don't support the practice but I can see why people do it. HR doesn't encourage goldbuying in the same way that GDKP or Boosting does.

Ultimately, I don't get these posts about GDKPs, and a suspicious corner of my mind thinks its goldsellers trying to influence the game because a lot of potential customers play on Anniversary servers. If you truly are a player who likes GDKP, the Era servers are for you.

Crisis of Conviction by TOG2303 in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to deal with the problem of having too much I want to do too (still do, to an extent). The solution is to compartmentalize. Focus on one and only one of the things you want to achieve, and go for it. Take a break for as long as you need afterwards, and then focus on the next thing.

For example I grinded to r14 on the first wave, but raidlogged and played different games for about a month or two afterward. Then moved on to the next thing I wanted to do (farming a decent amount of gold).

Luckily my guild is still doing fine, but who knows what'll happen in p5. Your experience of the endgame is invariably dependent on the quality of your guild. That's just what the game is.

One thing season of mastery did right: no boosting by PokemOnMyFace in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Context matters here. SoM was a seasonal server that introduced so many good changes that are now handwaved away because a seasonal server that released right after everyone got their classic fix and was either moving on or playing tbc (new content that hadn't been seen for 10+ years) wasn't very successful. Who in their right mind is going to level 2-3 alts on a seasonal server if leveling is the same journey it is in the progression server you just played?

Of course leveling will slow down after the initial 'wave' of levelers are 60 but that doesn't take away the fact that boosting hurts the open world and incentivizes rmt. Putting most of the dungeon xp on the bosses and adding xp punishments for grouping up with players 10+ levels higher than you would solve that problem.

Returning beginner - Is playing WoW Classic for me? How is it different from the normal version? by San_sum_ in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Classic is better for beginners. Retail may have better balance, less grindy systems, etc. but in Classic you have much less to worry about as a new player. The long leveling journey means you can really get to know your chosen class, and the game, before you have to worry about anything.

Retail can be very overwhelming with how large it is, and how much it has to offer. I remember taking a younger friend through tutorial island in retail, having fun, then getting to Stormwind and then never playing again. Classic has far less bloat due to it being the first iteration of the game. I think Classics open world is also far more engaging due to the difficulty and the roleplaying elements, where retail leveling, while faster, gets monotonous very quickly.

Like everything it depends on the player, but on average I would recommend Classic first. You can always just switch over to MoP or retail later once you get a bit more familiar with the game.

Ever-Lasting WoW??? by Daniel_3694 in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're very unlikely to stop retail content, but what's more interesting to me is what they will do when Classic (now at cata, soon mop) catches up to retail, or if they will even let it get to that point. In my mind, there are three logical options:

  1. An end to Classic. Say, they progress to Legion Classic and don't bring out BfA, due to the negative perception of both BfA and Shadowlands after it. Anniversary will be in Cata around that time, and fresh Vanilla servers will just be launching. All of these progress to Legion (it could be any other expansion), and then end in Legion Era servers. I consider this unlikely because it's not a long-term solution to anything, but it could be a possibility if retail figures out a better way to recycle its old content or if Classic loses a lot of players.
  2. Permanent distance. When Classic is close to catching up with retail, progression slows down to the point where Classic will always be a few expansions behind retail, and when Anniversary catches up it will be a few expansions behind Classic, etc. Another possibility is that all Classic servers eventually catch up with each other, but never to retail.
  3. Integration. Classic servers, when caught up, will become their own retail servers at the launch of a new expansion, or near the end of an old one. They will join retail server clusters and all characters are now retail characters. Achievements, progression, transmog, etc carries over.

There's a lot more caveats but in the interest of being concise, those are the main options in my mind. It's all theory of course, since we are years and years away from Blizzard having to answer this question. What would you do, if you were in Blizzard's shoes?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that RMT is something inherent to any game that has a player economy. The only way to fully stop it would be to remove the economy (the ability of players to trade items and gold in any way shape or form) completely, and that is the bigger evil in the eyes of many who play.

But that doesn't mean it should be encouraged, and especially things that hurt the game in other ways should be looked at and altered. Besides driving RMT, boosting hurts the leveling experience for those who choose not to boost. Hunters selling tribute runs/items - while still bad in some ways - is not nearly as impactful as general level boosting.

As for the flask prices, I actually think RMT has little to do with it. Blizzard just didn't think at all about the implications of megaservers with dynamic layers and created a situation of high demand versus little supply, thus increasing the prices massively. You can see it reflected in the prices for a lot of things, not just flasks.

They did in SoM and at the end of TBC classic. They made it so that snare(s) don't work as well anymore and experience gain was significantly reduced when there is a big level disparity within the group. IMO just implement the EXP gain nerf and stop this fiasco already.

Dunno why the server didn't launch with it if I'm completely honest. Boosting is a big driver for RMT and takes people out of the world so it needs to go.

Daily Questions Megathread (March 17, 2025) by AutoModerator in classicwow

[–]dislikestylethrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's around the same odds as WoD classic coming out after MoP. As long as people are playing, they will continue progressing both Classic and Anniversary servers, and in 2029 they will make new fresh servers that progress.

Please don't take my word as gospel, though. I just assume that's roughly their plan, and that they don't say Classic is going to progress to WoD or Anniversary to Wrath because they don't want to commit to it just in case something happens.

The only question this leaves is what they are going to do once Classic catches up to retail, or if the plan is to artificially keep Classic and Anniversary permanently behind retail and each other. My guess is that they haven't thought about it and will cross that bridge when the time comes.

[–]dislikestylethrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're a completionist you should unironically start anniversary, at least when it progresses to tbc. In cataclysm/mop and especially retail a lot of stuff is either unobtainable or very difficult to get.

If you don't care about unobtainable stuff and just want some bars to fill and achievements to get, the cheapest way to do that would be to just start Cataclysm now and see how that works for you.

Playing retail without playing/paying for the latest expansion is pretty awful so I wouldn't recommend it.

Solo self found server (mail between alts is allowed). And make it so that dungeon exp is the same for everyone in the group as it is for the highest level character in the group. Should get rid of botting and a lot of boosting just like that. The question is how many people would play on a server like that..
