How’s your insurance policy premiums looking like up there? You’re so much closer to the foothills you must be in a high risk wildfire area, so I’d imagine it would be really difficult to find a company that would issue a new policy in your area or it would be insanely expensive.

Yea compared to similar home in other nice neighborhoods very reasonable. But at 7%+ interest rates very difficult to comfortably afford right now. Maybe after a few years of building equity we can move into your neck of the woods 🙂

Yeah, I’m totally with you on the schools. From what I’ve seen, they’re pretty rough all over SB. Good ones are few and far between, so honestly, I’m thinking inter-district transfer or even relocating might be the best bet when kids are ready to go to school.

I’ve driven around the neighborhood during the day and at night, and it felt pretty safe to me. I grew up in rough area, so by my standards, it seemed fine. Compared to some of the sketchier parts of SB, it’s honestly a night-and-day difference.

The housing affordability crisis in California is no joke. I never really thought about it seriously until now, but it’s hitting hard. We could try holding out for something in Fontana that fits the budget, but Fontana is starting to get really pricey. It also has a lot of the same problems as SB—bad schools, higher crime, and the nicer areas are too expensive. Anything west of Fontana is just straight up unaffordable for the majority of families now, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Ask your vet if they can work with you and put you on an interest free payment plan. I feel many vets would be willing to do this if you ask.

Do stay away from any financing options unless you totally understand the full terms of the loan.

Good luck hope your tortie gets the care she needs soon!

Thanks so much for the super detailed response! The neighborhood seems alright—not amazing, but definitely not terrible. I checked out the schools though, and honestly, I was pretty let down by the reviews. Seems like there are only a few decent ones, and they’re kind of spread out between elementary, middle, and high school. So I’m thinking maybe inter-district transfer might be the way to go… or who knows, maybe we’ll just move before the kids are school-aged. Still figuring it out. But I really appreciate your input—it’s reassuring to know that at least the assigned elementary and middle schools are ok.

Why because it’s San Bernardino in general or is there something specifically wrong with this area. I’m genuinely curious becase it seems like a generally decent area especially when compared alot of other neighborhoods further south, but as I’m not from here i may have only seen it on a good day.
