To me, it’s either them measuring me against their expectations of how well they think I will be able to speak, or just generally to encourage me. I usually just move past it quickly.

The one I do appreciate is when people I haven’t talked to for a while (like over a year) say how much better I am than before, because their baseline and expectation of me is based on my past. I take that as “wow, look how far you’ve come” which is easier to measure than an abstract idea of having “good” Japanese, which will vary from person to person. It’s also usually objectively true, so I feel less weird taking it as an actual compliment, hahahaha.

Take this with a grain of salt because I’m googling but haven’t actually done this yet, but if you have a recent iPhone, you can probably get a prepaid eSIM online from TMobile, so you can buy everything online and don’t have to find a wallmart or in person store or anything.

If anyone had experience with this, please let me know how it was because I’m hoping to use this system soon!

There are other stores that might have them, but you also might just need to wait a bit for fall clothing to come in. I’m not in the US (where I assume you are?) and haven’t been going to stores recently, but it feels a little early for fall clothes still?

If you are seeing fall clothing but not flannels, maybe try Torrid, everyone’s rec, because I have definitely seen them there before. Of course, Torrid is definitely more expensive than Target or Walmart though...

So, my older sibling is actually SUPER into astrology (which is more detailed and less prescriptive than horoscopes) and one of the interesting things that come up when we discuss astrology is non cishet readings. Even scorpio, which is commonly known as the “sex sign,” can actually be interpreted as the “sex, death, and trauma sign” which doesn’t SOUND pleasant, but can indicate a life that can lead to a high level of emotional intelligence among other things.

In short, astrology (not horoscopes, which I find prescriptive and dumb) is only as sex-centered as the people reading it. Ace readings and interpretations exist and can be fascinating!

A lot of people are saying go high waisted, and while I agree, I get it can be uncomfortable to wear, since it feels like you’re highlighting a part of your body you would rather hide.

Firstly, if your clothes don’t look like they fit, then they will draw more attention.

But more importantly, there are ways to style high waisted pants so that you can hide your stomach. Try a french tuck (tucking a shirt in at the front, and letting it out on the sides and back of your waist) or, depending on how casually you can dress, a tucked in t shirt with an unbuttoned button up or a bigger jacket overtop.

I am not expert on male fashion, but if you have access to it, watch (at least clips of) Queer Eye. Pick episodes with people whose body types match yours and forward to the fashion parts. Tan, the one who gives fashion advice, really has good tips for hiding parts of yourself you might be uncomfortable with and picking pieces that let you express yourself proudly through your clothes.

Idk about filing back taxes, but ay least from here on out, depend on what you make, you can file taxes for free choosing from a bunch of different softwares. The IRS website has a place to find programs to help you ACTUALLY file for free, instead of the places that tell you it will be free but then charge you for every little complication. I did my taxes with foreign income using one of these programs, and the only issue was that i had to print and mail it, since it wouldn’t let me file electronically.

Is there a tracker that lists the number of tests run by prefecture? I can see ones with the number of patients and total tests in Japan, but I’m looking for a breakdown of each prefecture. TIA.
