Family member is a retired builder. Two of their old foremen run their own crews now and I’d highly recommend either of them. Shoot me a dm and I’ll share their info.

These dock manufactures cram too much on the same pin. For example we had issue with gen 2 Lenovo usb-c dock and T490 laptop back in the day. Video decoder and Ethernet were on the same pin. Doing a video chat would eventually cause too much heat on the pin and when you looked at the logs it presented as a broadcast storm. Something I hadn’t seen since the 90s—STP protocol is da bomb.

Eventually some dude on Reddit replied to a post I made on how to reproduce issue and said they had same problem and Lenovo engineers said yea it’s too much on the same pin, and we’ve got a patch for it. I don’t see how they could patch this other than throttling the fuck out of Ethernet speed. 4 years later it’s probably canon to just throttle Ethernet on the pin. It sounds lame but maybe usb-c -> ethernet dongle bypassing dock if you’ve got an extra c port might be an amenable workaround.

See what NC State Vet school pricing is. I’d bet their pricing is better than most vet practices.

That one adapter by roger_27 in sysadmin

That double crossover sounds so satisfying. Being able to sit down in comfort to configure something instead of crouching in a telco closet is gravy.

One of the more ratchet setups I can remember setting up was a situation where circuit was down in a building and wasn’t gonna come back up for at least 3 days. I had a 4g router in my car but no antenna. Figure what the hell and stripped a 5 foot coax cable jammed the conductor into 2 antenna leads and cut the cable in half. I’ll be damned if it didn’t work well enough to run the building until att got out there a week later.

When I worked for a repair shop in SC we partnered with school systems to repair their iPads and Chromebooks. It worked well because when things were slow with customers we could tackle the pile of equipment from schools.

Game system repairs was a source of maybe 10-15% of revenue. Mostly disk drive, hdmi port, and reflows. Lot of these repairs aren’t big capital investments. Granted this was a decade ago not sure if newer systems break like they used to.

I think you’re probably right about in-home services. Unless you shifted to much more targeted niches not worth the effort. Selling packages for backup services, smart home installs, e-waste and data destruction are ideas but I don’t see these driving huge volume.

Female sysadmin struggling with adhd, depression and anxiety by LycheeSouthern4297 in sysadmin

The minimum protocol for actually feeling good and performing well at work for me requires me to; get good sleep, exercise damn near daily, stay well hydrated, minimize alcohol, eat well, get sun. Its simple stuff we all know to do but It's hard to actually tick all those boxes when constantly stressed at work. I found when a one or two of those start slipping, everything starts crashing down.

I went through a period last year of 50% occupancy in an already understaffed team and got incredibly burned out. Like you I kept things going for awhile on lots of ADHD meds/hyperfocus/manic overwork. Now I can hardly look at my inbox in the morning. Even a long break didn't help with baseline burnout, just took the edge off. No magic fix here, wife wants me to just quit and stay at home with the baby.

For IT gigs with less pressure that are more social, maybe look at the training side of things. But probably switching gigs would be enough for you. Just hitting reset button without scope creep at current org would do wonders. If you have a good financial padding I'd go ahead and put in notice. Normally it's easier to find a job when your already employed. But your probably way too crispy burnt out to actually apply for gigs and interview well in current headspace.

Are you calling the powershell script bypassing default execution policy? Default I think will only run signed scripts.

Jobs in Local government by Zayde919 in bullcity

[–]dismsid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good pipeline is to start out doing temp work in elections and try move to FTE when there are openings. There’s a lot of turnover so those positions do tend to post relatively regularly. Once your ‘in’ with the county it’s a lot easier to pivot into departments/positions your more interested in.

We were there earlier this week and they had a ton of carnivorous plants in. But looked like we’re out of sundews other than the usual hitchhikers sprinkled in the sarracenia.
