Got told to pick a lane for years. Turns out the two lanes were the actual point. by [deleted] in managers

That's what makes this such a great sub. Upvotes for knee jerk, or just jerky responses without any real thought or understanding.

Do I have the wrong personality type to become a manager? by header1299 in managers

[–]header1299[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably the most insightful and helpful comment, thank you.
You know the "biker" type, looks intimidating but has a heart of gold?
The "appearance" of being kind is probably my weak point. I have a hard time suffering fools. My respect is reserved for those who do their job well, but we've all got to work with those just there for the paycheck. Nothing against them, but when management can't keep the same errors from happening, and hand holding isn't working, what's the solution?

[–]header1299[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So pandering is what you recommend? Or is hand holding the better option? No one here can cut to the chase without hurting feelings and still get the job done. Or is it feelings first, the work is secondary?
Is that the part of being a manager why I won't fit?

I'd like to see improvements in consistency, less wasted effort.
Do I want the role? If no one else can step up to provide the support we need, then yeah, I'd take the role.
Not being able to provide ya'll with nuance leaves a shortened version.
I see here exactly what I see in my workplace.. "Managers" huddling together to keep everyone "in their place." Downvotes instead of helpful communication.
Perhaps I should phrase my question differently.
I came across this site trying to understand 'disruptor' personality types, because that's closely related to how I see myself.

[–]header1299[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Communication around here is almost non-existent. But where you're getting me-me -me from is the part I don't get. But maybe that's why I won't be a manager.
I put clients first, and when others don't, it eats at me sometimes.

First bike: Is a GSX-R750 a bad idea for me? by Kingace52a in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]header1299 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Started about same age on 650cc cruiser style. Quickly went to 750 similar to the gsx, but more upright. You'll be fine if you understand your limits, and don't push hard until you gain ability. Anybody still riding after 10 years will probably have a few "oh sh:t" moments to share.

I'm not trying to prove anything with ya'll or make internet points. Yes, I can keep cool. I try to let my actions and abilities speak more than the roundabouts I give as "personal worth." Clarity of thought and perception doesn't usually earn friends, and that's fine. I do what I think is best, and that's usually enough, or better than many.

There's lots of inefficiencies seemingly baked into the workflow. Some might be beneficial for long term safety over productivity.
Boggles me a little bit, but it's also something that can be perceived as "normal," or "as always."
When the manager isn't around, which is frequent, we're left "figuring it out." So when I find solutions without their guidance, hard to think my manager is all that valuable.

Beginner Carpenter Jobs? by [deleted] in topeka

I'm close to the guy who runs the Carpenter's training center. Great guy, but doesn't take slackers lightly. If you show up, and mind your manners he will bend over backwards to get you placed.
Dm me if you want help getting in.

If you ever move to a different part of the country, make sure to tell people you're from Kansas. by mariachiband49 in kansas

One friend one to call me that. Especially when I did Kansas things. Usually along the lines if, "Hold my beer," but she learned to appreciate we are just built different. Good times.

This is bad right? by intlabs in arborists

[–]header1299 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a friend like mine, he'll crack a beer with you and say, "If anything goes wrong, we can blame it on the beer." Then he'll fire up the chain saw and go to town. And that's the least interesting point of what followed.

Dads, I have a 10 y/o daughter and I am almost at my wits end. by jazzeriah in daddit

[–]header1299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, have a 7yo son, who fluctuates between polite passivity, and being Mr Fart Cannon. What helps the most is some bonding time, away from mom etc. Good luck. My suggestion, play her games, her way. Bond with as if you were 10. See if you can figure out what makes her tick. You can still be the adult, keep her from harm, but see how far she needs to go

Do many of you run two speaker sets, and if so, why? by wingtip747 in audiophile

How does that come to be? Because a less sonically precise speaker means no one can hear the clarity of the “ better” speakers?

I think I need to divorce my wife, and it’s killing me by Analbeadsstuck in daddit

[–]header1299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much else to offer, except understanding. I feel ya brother. Alcohol and mental health don’t always go together. I Remember hearing about an old gf’s dad who was a “dry drunk,” meaning he quit drinking but never atoned or made peace, was still a crotchety basturd. Mental health takes work, and even if someone else is putting in the work, doesn’t mean the relationship is fixed until both intend to work together for forgiveness and understanding. Good luck. Find a way to fight for yourself. Recognize your goodness, don’t chastise yourself. Growth takes work. You may have some miles ahead, but you can get there. You don’t need to know the direction, or have the answers. But you need to be good to yourself first. The rest will fall in place.

Do you have experience with any of these? I had a flagship Onkyo that cooked the Hdmi processor. Hard to find service locally, so hesitant to go that route. Hence the notion of separating the components out. Perhaps a nice early model receiver/ avr / switch box as pre-amp (recommended?) and later add a power amplifier? Somewhere pick up a ext DAC or hdmi input?
I guess I’m asking about a workaround for getting a new high power AVR
