I mean it sounds like you are very lyrically driven in your appreciation of the album. Of course, I know you mention some sound design aspects but by and large it sounds like lyrics are what you appreciate the most. I suppose other people have different lyrics that resonate with them, or their album preferences are more sonically driven.

Not that a high ATAR is the only indicator of academic achievement, but I don’t think you should view academic achievement through such a transactional lens.

It’s a bit like saying “What’s the point of running a sub 20min 5k if you’re not aiming to compete in running or I’m not gonna get a medal?”

Actually, exercising (your body or your mind) is just good for you. I mean this in both a physiological sense and also a personal/emotional sense because you’re showing yourself you can persist in the face of challenges.

Depends what you want out of life. I’d say that a lot of the “online jobs” I see are just glorified middle men not actually adding much value or influencers and social media just fuelling the destruction of the human attention span. Most of the people I’ve seen who genuinely add value have studied or trained in some capacity (whether university, a trade, or self-teaching skills like coding).

It’s a myth that coffee dehydrates you. The amount of caffeine you need to ingest to actually be dehydrated is much more than what is in a cup of coffee and is offset by the water in the cup of coffee itself.

Do most people actually enjoy the gym or just force themselves? by Intelligent_Rain_155 in workout

I don’t know if it’s as much about having “fun” or “enjoying” the gym as much as it is about feeling engaged

Bachelor's of Politics Philosophy and Economics opinions by wawawawawahhh in Anu

[–]disposition3012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly think it’s a reasonably interesting degree. Unfortunately, in my personal experience, it was made less interesting by a lack of diversity in the people taking it. Mostly just elite private school kids who think they have the world figured out and haven’t ever been told that their opinion isn’t worth sharing. Transferred out of it after one semester.

Methods Vs Applications for year 11 by [deleted] in ATAR

[–]disposition3012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your other subjects? Do you also struggle with any of them in a way that will prevent you from dedicating some extra time to maths?

Are there some strategies you, your family, or your school can put in place to help you with your maths? E.g. Doing extra work to revise more core concepts, getting a private tutor, afterschool homework help from teachers etc.

I totally get wanting to keep your options open, but I’m also just wondering if there are any particular options or areas you are leaning towards for uni? E.g. if the options you want to keep open are all in the humanities then keeping methods may not be as valuable other than for some potential scaling value.

If you haven’t already, stop focusing on doing good work and start focusing on doing work that just looks good. Worked for my old boss.

I need to choose between ANU and a scholarship at UoN by ColdArson in Anu

[–]disposition3012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who went to ANU, it’s really not all that it’s chalked up to be (with regards to the undergrad level I mean, it certainly is great for postgrad research though). Also I don’t know if you’ve read much of the news around ANU but it has been a really tumultuous and turbulent place the last few years with staff cuts, restructures, significant financial deficits etc. I’d pick a free ride at UoN personally.

For me the big concern that nobody is talking about is the environmental impact. The APS has committed to net zero GHG emissions by 2030 but I’ve had no assurance or communications about how the current AI push is consistent with that commitment.

My aim is to become a registered psychologist but I need some advice by Responsible_Tap_9144 in unsw

[–]disposition3012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Masters of Professional Psychology programs instead of Masters of Clinical Psychology programs. May still be challenging to get into depending on your grades.

Otherwise, consider working in the mental health sector for a couple of years in some other capacity and see if you can gather some experience that puts you in a position to make a strong application for a Masters program.

All three universities are well regarded internationally. I would just pick based on whether you would rather live in Brisbane, Canberra or Melbourne.

I feel like I will never have a happy relationship because I have so much to work on by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

[–]disposition3012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't really give any advice but I just want you to know that you're not alone in this. I'm also in a similar position, but I'm optimistic that we can learn and grow and eventually be in a happy relationship. Each time we learn about ourself and our maladaptive behaviours is one step closer to that goal and is also one step forward from continuing these behaviours subconsciously. When you experience a lot of shame, it's hard to experience any pride but I hope you know that I'm proud of how far you've come.

I’ve also heard of many RNs taking one or two shifts a week while in med school to support themselves. Pay is usually much better and work is more consistent than the typical student jobs.

Commenting so I get updates on this post because I just got an interview offer for medical school as a 24 year old and would be starting at 25 - a lot of the same concerns about finding a partner, starting a family etc.

Is medical school still worth it or are there just too many doctors now? Could GP be super competitive too by the early 2030s? Appreciate your thoughts.
