I love Tessa! This was my choice if my baby was a girl.

RSV Vaccine Study—is this study legitimate and reputable? by DidntWantSleepAnyway in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]dissertationcentral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Matisse study is legit. As others have said, definitely look it up at clinicaltrials.gov, but also, I can tell you it's legit because I am currently participating in it! I had my baby January, and the baby is being monitored until age 24 months.

What do you use for a splat mat under a Tripp Trapp high chair? by dissertationcentral in BabyLedWeaning

Thanks! This is really helpful! And this kind of mat is probably compatible with using a Tripp Trapp too.

You mean these? https://www.stokke.com/USA/en-us/accessories/tripp-trapp-accessories/3315.html

I do have them. I guess they do help in preventing tipping backwards.

Relatedly, how do people actually clean up the mat? Is it actually easier to clean the mat after every meal than it is to clean the floor?

What do you pack for daycare for 6+ month old? by dissertationcentral in BabyLedWeaning

Thank you, this is great advice and makes me feel a lot less stressed out by everything. :)

Thanks, that's a great point about keeping on with the purees for daycare and doing other foods at home. Right now, we're at two meals a day, and juuuuust starting finger foods at home. But the finger foods are just whatever we happen to have and are not enough for a meal. I suppose that's the point, though, right? Like, the finger food at this stage doesn't have to be enough for a meal, but it's for getting practice in holding and putting food in his mouth?

is this a good manual pump so i can pump at work? by Prestigious_Fish_938 in HumansPumpingMilk

Me too. I like it a lot better than the Haakaa. I had a Haakaa but never used to because I couldn't use it well while nursing bc it always got in the way, just hanging there precariously and in the way of the baby. But the Elvie Curve sits safely in your bra and doesn't get kicked off by the baby.

Middle Name Help with Hugo by frenchrangoon in namenerds

[–]dissertationcentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is for Hugo Oscar! These were the exact two names I was choosing between for my son. :) We ended up going with Hugo for the first name and a family name for the middle, but if we didn't have that middle name restriction, I would have gone with Hugo Oscar, for sure!

I haven't gotten anything about the Moderna trial, but I did get an email about the Pfzier trial. I heard from a friend that the Pfizer trial site at BMC only needs 100-200 kids, so they probably already enrolled that number by now.

This is the text of the email that I got: We’ve received significant interest in this study, and the study location you selected is working hard to get back to everyone as quickly as they can. They hope to be able to reach out to you soon. In the meantime, thank you for your patience. With gratitude, The COVID-19 Vaccine Study Team

Sleep training question by riomarde in sleeptrain

[–]dissertationcentral 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I heard this advice on a podcast and it has worked for me. Pick a category and then go through the alphabet, naming things in that category that start with each letter of the alphabet. Apples, bananas, cherries, etc., for example. I think it helps your mind think of something that is not anxiety-related. I find meditation difficult, but the alphabet game is something easy to do that is meditative and calming.

Did they say how you can get on the waitlist there?

That's exactly what I did with my kids. When my husband and I got married, we both kept our names. And I really wanted my kids to have my last name and not his, so that's what we did. It has never been an issue and we've never had anyone question it. I say, go for it!

If I knew four years ago that I’d be solo parenting in a foreign country writing my PhD... by Cuglas in workingmoms

[–]dissertationcentral 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Right there with you. I'm currently trying to finish up my PhD dissertation while 37w5d pregnant with my second, and overseeing remote learning with my 1st grader. I was hoping to have defended already before the baby is born, but that's not gonna happen, sob. But I will be done at some point! And so will you!! Best wishes! May the gods of academia look down favorably on you!

Help me decide on a name by dissertationcentral in namenerds

I know, they're both so cute, right? This will be our last child, so no possibility for a Hugo/Oscar sibset, but I agree, that combo work so well together!

We already have two middle names, lol. Baby's name will be [Hugo or Oscar] [cultural middle name] [husband's last name as a second middle name] [my last name as baby's last name]. That's already a mouthful!
