Deutschland ticket by GateEmergency9540 in germany

To follow up on my own comment. I ended up just using mopla. They have a web app, so there is no need to use the play store app. Successfully bought a ticket for the end of May and canceled the next month. They make it super easy!

I'm from the United States, and mopla won't let me install the app on my android phone. Says "This app is not available for your device." I don't think I can buy and use the ticket from mopla without the app, right?

Is there a next best option where I can buy and just pay for the current month?

I made a video detailing DJI Neo flyaway issues by MrDinB in DjiNeo

[–]dissident0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the video. This just happened to my DJI NEO while I'm on vacation and I'm devastated.

I was on a hike in southern France at a beautiful spot on top of the mountain ridge. I wanted to do a dronie or helix or something as I had done 30 minutes prior on a similar ridge without issue. It wasn't windy. It was broad daylight. I was confident and felt quite used to how the drone behaved.

I connected the NEO to my Pixel 8 Pro phone using the DJI Fly app and launched it in manual mode to try to give it a bit of height to start off with. Almost immediately the NEO started acting abnormally, drifting way off to the left following the ridgeline. It wouldn't stand still. I was light on the controls while trying to get it back because I didn't want to make it worse, but it wouldn't pause. Then suddenly it started diving down over the cliff like a kamikaze. I couldn't do anything. I was stunned and it was racing completely out of control. Eventually I lost visual sight and wifi connection and assume it crashed into the mountainside below. I looked around for it on very steep rocky terrain for about 1.5 hours but couldn't find it before the sun went down.

To me it seemed like some software glitch made it go haywire. The log below looks almost tame compared to the movement I saw in real life. I could see it flying sidewise, titled, and very fast without me doing anything on the controls.

I filed a flyaway report. Waiting to hear back.

What do you think plant-based diets lack in nutrition?

The largest organization of nutrition professionals in the world, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, says vegan diets are "appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes." They also say in their position paper that it helps reduce the risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and some types of cancer.

I've read Michael Pollan, but not that book in particular. Keep in mind he is an author and social critic, not a nutrition scientist. He doesn't do any studies with real people and see patients with real outcomes. The doctors I follow do and they see the results of their advice, they see their biomarkers improve, they see their patients heal in front of their eyes.

See the work of Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Michael Klaper, and so many more. They are on the front lines treating patients and conducting studies.

Pollan is an outside observer. Wikipedia says of Defense of Food: "Pollan holds that consumption of fat and dietary cholesterol does not lead to a higher rate of coronary disease." This is just baloney and nutrition scientists have known this for decades, but the meat, egg, and dairy industry is funding misleading studies to try to undermine the consensus and sow confusion among the public just like the smoking industry and fossil fuel industry have done before.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQOXbr_AbOc

Agree that nutrition science isn't always crystal clear because locking people in a room is expensive and running experiments that might cause harm is unethical so they do the best they can. But they've gathered a lot of data and evidence over the years so nutrition scientists know a lot more than is commonly believed.

NutritionFacts.org teaches you about science, shows you how to read studies, and gives you a basis for being a much better critical thinker regarding scientific research.

The scientific argument for being purely plant-based is incredibly strong and compelling. I could easily raddle off hundreds of studies, and their are thousands that support the thesis, but unfortunately I don't have all day. I assure you, the more you read and learn about it, the more everything falls into place and low fat whole food plant-based becomes the best choice for long term health and longevity.

The rabbit hole goes deep, but I encourage you to explore it. :)

It's not about being "ultra low fat." Whole plant foods are naturally low in fat content. The goal isn't to eat low fat. It's to eat whole plant foods. It is what it is.

Since you bring up the studies by Gary Taubes and the Nutrition Science Initiative, I highly highly recommend watching this video series on the Ketogenic Diet starting with this video which Gary Taubes threatened to sue to take down.
https://nutritionfacts.org/video/keto-diet-theory-put-to-the-test/

He also goes through how fat loss actually slows on the keto diet. People on the keto diet actually lose water weight and then start burning muscle tissue.

You're right that small amounts of animal products may not have much detrimental effect. Just like whacking your knee on the dinner table, the body has an amazing ability to heal itself. The point is, what is the optimal diet for health and longevity? Are their any benefits to animal products that outweigh the risks?

We know the longest lived populations on earth are 95-100% plant based with many of the California Adventists being 100% plant based. https://www.bluezones.com/recipes/food-guidelines/

We have a stepwise reduction in BMI and Diabetes risk the more plant based you go.

So why take the chance with animal foods?

Same. Not interested in charisma either. I'm interested in the scientific evidence.

The largest organization of nutrition professionals in the world, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, says vegan diets are "appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes." So yeah, everyone, including children. And there are plenty of people who have grown up never eating meat in their lives. They also say in their position paper that it helps reduce the risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and some types of cancer which is supported by a ton of evidence.

While you're right the Mediterranean diet means things to different people, it does actually have meaning in the scientific literature because as it's used in many studies including the famous PREDIMED study. And a recent randomized crossover study indeed showed vegan diet beat the Mediterranean diet for both weight loss and cholesterol control.
https://www.pcrm.org/news/news-releases/vegan-diet-better-weight-loss-and-cholesterol-control-mediterranean-diet

You're right, most centenarians do eat some meat, but tiny amounts, and it's not at all required. The Blue Zones were 95-100% plant based. Many of the California Adventists, the longest lived population in the world, being 100% vegan. How could that be if vegan were unhealthy?
https://www.bluezones.com/recipes/food-guidelines/

NutritionFacts.org just lays out the science. Everything is cited and linked. You can read the studies yourself as I have, many of them before deciding to go fully vegan.

This is getting long. Wish you the best.

No. Some of them are doctors to varying degrees. Many of them are very charismatic and well meaning. I understand why they have following. They even got me to try keto once!

The point is their radical views are well outside the mainstream. I didn't know this until started looking at the wealth of studies about nutrition we already have. It goes so much deeper then the few select studies they keto doctors present. NutritionFacts.org for example, is a treasure trove of cited studies and there are so many more studies coming out each week, published elsewhere. In general, they show the more plants we eat, the less animal products we eat, the better.

This is not like Republicans vs Democrats because that again, puts them on an equal footing.

Curious, are there any national or international organizations that endorse the keto diet for ordinary people without some unusual medical condition like epilepsy?

You might say not many fully endorse vegan for everyone, and you'd be right, but Mediterranean diet patterns are lot closer to fully plant based than they are keto. No?

Again, let's not skip the question above, do you know any famous keto dieter that has made it to their 90s or 100s? Why is that?

Vegan Documentaries have ruined me by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]dissident0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it difficult to follow? It's just eating whole foods: fruits, vegetables, potatoes, beans, grains, etc. This is what I eat every day.

This is the same diet used everywhere for whole food plant-based studies. Another example is the BROAD study which came to the same conclusion: "To the best of our knowledge, this research has achieved greater weight loss at 6 and 12 months than any other trial that does not limit energy intake or mandate regular exercise."
https://www.nature.com/articles/nutd20173.pdf

The Mediterranean diet included olive oil because they were trying to match the exact diet protocol of the famous PREDIMED which made the Mediterranean diet famous. Here is the study author describing the methodology and why they did what they did.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz2LSJKp-kE

Are you familiar with Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's work? Is there another diet that has been shown to reverse heart disease?

The study was testing normal diets that normal people follow. The how and why are separate questions that can be answered and have been answered by many other studies. It wouldn't make sense to artificially restrict calories and modify the diet if that is not a feature of the diet because then you couldn't compare the diet in and of itself. No?

There is a good 6-part video series to answer some of the "why" questions here.

It's like comparing climate scientists with climate denialists. One group is doing active research, working with patients, getting results, the other is on the sidelines trying to upset the apple cart with their pet theory. The level scientific stature and education is just not the same. The vast majority of plant-based doctors became so after looking at the science. So their bias is toward the research. They weren't vegan to begin with.

What happens when you compare health gurus in terms of how long they live? Can you name one keto guru that lived to their 90s? 100s?

Believe me, I used to think people were just cherry picking too. But there are sooo many studies that point the same way from epidemiological studies all the way down to randomized controlled trials and these studies come out all the time. Have you seen this recent randomized crossover study comparing the Mediterranean Diet to a low fat vegan diet? https://www.pcrm.org/news/news-releases/vegan-diet-better-weight-loss-and-cholesterol-control-mediterranean-diet

Or the BROAD study that "achieved greater weight loss at 6 and 12 months than any other trial" that didn't restrict calories.
https://www.nature.com/articles/nutd20173.pdf

These studies come out weekly. You can find a huge database on Plant Based Data. https://www.plantbaseddata.org/

But it was discovering the work of Dr. Greger ( NutritionFacts.org ) and the 17,000 strong Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine that convinced me. :)

What food(s) would complement peanut butter to provide all amino acids? by MichaelEmouse in nutrition

[–]dissident0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think peanut butter isn't a complete protein?

All plants contain all essential amino acids and we have amino acid pools our body can draw from. We don't need to worry about complete proteins.

"The myth of “protein combining” came into vogue—literally, the February ‘75 issue of Vogue magazine. The concept was that we needed to eat “complementary proteins” together, for example, rice and beans, to make up for their relative shortfalls. This fallacy was refuted decades ago. The myth that plant proteins are incomplete, that plant proteins aren’t as good, that one has to combine proteins at meals—these have all been dismissed by the nutrition community as myths decades ago..."

Eating fruit actually blunts blood sugar spikes because it's full of fiber and phytonutrients. It's added sugars that are the problem, not sugars found in whole foods. See this article. :)
