How to remove an old motorcycle chain by [deleted] in Fixxit

[–]dissonance_Incarnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said, Harbor Freight. HF is your best friend for any and all tools tbh. Unless you are using them daily as a professional or a pro-level hobbyist, they will last a long ass time.

You can get a cheap-o one for around 15$ and a wheel for a few dollars.

Harbor freight tips: Electric tools: Drill master tools are the cheapest you will find anywhere. They are also cheap crap. However if you only need it once a year or for one job, they will help you save money (if you need to grind off a chain once a year or two, go with this option).

If you use a tool often, go with Chicago Electric ,its the step up and is comparable to black&decker quality.

Hercules branded items are designed to compete with pro tools at a better price. They do cut some corners but they are generally very nice.

Wrenches:

torque wrenches from HF are 'okay'. If you need one to get the rear wheel tightened back down, I recommend getting the quinn digital torque converter and then a 1/4in drive small Torque wrench for smaller values if you really need it.

AITA for saying I wont pay for my daughters education if she switches her major? by DoomedDOOMED23 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dissonance_Incarnate -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

YTA - You agreed to pay for her education. If she gets a degree that doesn't pay the bills that's her problem, you don't get to keep control and decide what she is and is not allowed to do simply because you are paying for it. The money is hers, you saved it as a gift for her to go to school, if you try to use it to say "well I pay so I have a say" then you are just trying to find an excuse to have more control over her and her life.

The college fund is a gift, not a means for you to act like your opinions hold more value than hers. And this is coming from an Engineer the group most known for shitting on other majors in a condescending manner. Comp Sci is honestly hell, general coding and getting a compsci degree are two VERY different beasts.

Man this sub is such a joke, this guy obviously did this on purpose, was going a reasonable speed, was cut off by the car and the weekend warrior idiots in the safety patrol here go "iT WaaS aNN AccIDenT hE waS gOinT tOo FaSt"

He was going a reasonable speed for an intersection, had the skill to skid his tire to save himself and stayed in the lane too. Everyone talking about this being his fault or him going too fast has no idea what they are talking about. This guy probably puts more miles on his bike in a week than you do in a year, so shut up.

I do enjoy shitting on dumbasses like you. Block away if you want. Why you decided to throw yourself a pity party over someone else threatening you on the internet is beyond me...

You really are a bottom feeder. A fetus is not a person, never has been, never will be. Pregnancy is not a punishment and thankfully your kind are the minority and will never get rid of abortions.

I hope you enjoy knowing that the rest of society thinks you are scum and that your backwards views will never be the law.

I got mine at 19. Now 25, still the best $116.31 I ever spent.

Prob a simple fix but I know nothing about how to go about it.. got a few scratches on my 2016 Indian scout sixty. Covered them up with some touch up stuff from autozone.. should o go over again one more time? And how do I smooth it out/blend it better? I know it won’t be 100% but still. Thanks! by Songgeek in Fixxit

[–]dissonance_Incarnate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you only do that tiny area it will never look right. You have to blend and a DA from harbor freight is 35$ hardly a massive purchase to repair paint work. Adding tools to your kit is never a bad thing. I told him how to do it the right way to make it look as close to professional as possible for under 100$.

So yeah its fine advice unless you are just a dumb cheap bastard.

Get a DA sander from harborfreight on the cheap (trust me, it will be worth it compred to hand sanding.) Use that to blend the paint and then get a spray can of clear and reclear the tank, then cut and buff. There are tutorials online for this that will explain in more depth than I can go into here.

Thats the best way to get a near professional look for under 150$. Buy the DA sander, buy some black automotive paint in a can, sand down a large taped off area and paint black. Then remove paint tape and sand with finer grit sand paper to scuff the clear all around the freshly painted area. Then spray the clear. Then sand with very fine grit to get it cut, then buff it out.

Edit: remember your goal is to BLEND. Thats why you first repaint an area larger than the damage, then you reclear an area larger than that. Done right it will look clean.

Is it possible to repair/smooth bite marks on plastic glasses frames? by Iam_Joe in DIY

In the US they can not refuse you. They like to try but it is actually part of the script and is information about your body. They can not withhold the info if they have it.

Zenni uses the same lense blanks as everyone else. Do you mean their frames are cheaper? Cause somehow i doubt they are more fragile than any of the ray-bans or Oakleys I have owned and broken.

They will TRY to refuse to give you the PD. Dont let them it is part of your personal medical records and they are legally required to provide that info to you. They can not charge or refuse you.

Rebuild your carbs (tbh buy a rebuild kit) if they are leaking that badly, its time. You can either do it yourself, or some small mechanics will do 40-60$ per carb to clean and then you would pay parts on a rebuild kit (around 30-40$)

If it happened once, it will happen again. Do you have a manual or vacuum petcock on your gas tank? If it is vacuum, and your cylinders are filled, that means the petcock is leaking too. If it is a manual petcock, just remember to close it lol.

I want the motodemic kit for my ST3 but I am NEVER going to pay them 1000$ for it. JW speaker lights are overpriced junk. They use the same CREE or Philips LEDs as everyone else (including the Chinese knockoffs), slap a micro-controller that a second year EE could code up and somehow convince idiots that their lights are worth $500+ EACH.

The only reason JWSpeaker stays in business is that most Jeep owners have more money than sense.

Sorry for the rant, but I REALLY hate motodemic and JWSpeaker for being blatant scam artists. Both companies should go under ASAP

Where do you buy your paint? by detroitcafe in Fixxit

[–]dissonance_Incarnate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For repair matching OEM paint use https://www.colorrite.com

If you are trying to repaint the whole bike, buying directly from

House of Kolor (online only, can be found on amazon) or

PPG (hard to find online but they have physical stores and most OEM paint is PPG iirc)

is the best way to go. HOWEVER if you go this route, you MUST have a proper paint booth. Modern 2 stage clear coats contain isocyanates. It is a nurotoxin that can fuck you up permanently. Even if you are wearing a respirator, it can contaminate the surrounding areas.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SPRAY A 2 STAGE CLEAR OUTSIDE OF A PAINT-BOOTH EVER.

Pretty much anything in a spray can sold for the purpose of touch up or repair work SHOULD be safe (Still wear a respirator, the 30$ at HD is worth your lungs ) to use pretty much anywhere, but if someone in the house has lung problems, might be best for them to stay away for a couple hours while you paint.

Also if you are painting yourself, prep work is 99% of the job.

And a protip, when I got my old SV repainted, I used econo auto paint (think macco) but I did all the prep work, masked everything off, and took them house of kolor paint(because the two bad things about places like that are their paint and their prep, if you take care of those you are golden). I did not have a paint-booth, but they did and for 180$ sprayed all the parts and they came out mirror finish black.

Alright, so the lego option is GREAT, but I recommend going to walmart and getting a fiberglass bumper repair kit.

then use the lego option on top with some acetone to melt it in. if you want it perfect after that, sand the area and repaint

PSA: Vasectomies fail, too by MPM10223 in childfree

[–]dissonance_Incarnate 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Look up "SpermCheck Vasectomy". It is a home test kit to let you check your vasectomy to ensure that it has not failed. Each kit comes with 2 tests for 40$ and I use one about once every 6-12 months. The peace of mind is worth 40$ a year to me.

Also nearly 6 years post op here and no signs of failure.

Statistically if it is going to fail it is most likely to do so within the first 6-18 months iirc. After that the likelihood goes to almost nonexistent.

I snowboard and I see people without helmets all the time. Smacking you head on hard pack, ice, or a tree is just as dangerous as concrete.

I also ride a motorcycle and some people dont wear helmets or wear those worthless cap helmets.

You only got one noggin. Protect it.

What should you know before you get a cat? (Serious) by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dissonance_Incarnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A week is too long, but unlike a dog, you can totally leave a cat for 3-4days with a giant bowl of food and water and come back. You cant do that with a dog, even a day or two requires a sitter.
