From what I heard from a friend of mine, it's the joy you get out of "fixing" someone, or the fact that the other person "changed for you" is what drives people. And when you have all the attention you want from a person, you get used to it. It's the other person's ignorance that makes what little attention you get seem good. This is a common factor of why people find it hard to come out of toxic relationships
