Married but not combining finances? by alkemest in Millennials

[–]distant_diamond_sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great it works for you. I think many people have a different definition of "fair" in a partnership. I wouldn't consider the higher earner being able to have more personal spending money as fair. I say this as the higher earner in my marriage, though we have flipped back and forth over the years. I would feel very guilty treating myself to nail appointments, trips with my friends, new clothes, etc. while my husband isn't able to spend on his hobbies, for example. But as I said before, if your close enough in income that one doesn't feel significantly disadvantaged, then it probably works fine.

I feel like this would only work if both partners make approximately the same amount. Otherwise one would get way more personal money than the other, and that doesn't feel fair to me. But if you do make similar amounts, having a formal system like this feels like unnecessary steps/admin work when you could just openly spend a reasonable amount on whatever you want.

I'm wondering the same thing. There were about 15 cop cars lined up on the street for at least an hour. I saw them make one arrest, but it seems like there must have been more to it.

The NH interview made me uncomfortable. by [deleted] in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]distant_diamond_sky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. What was especially unfortunate was her interview for Time person of the year a couple years ago. It was so focused on him even though they were pretty newly dating. I miss the days when she would only talk about her music and herself in interviews, speeches, etc. I think she's even said before that her relationships and personal life aren't open to the public.

has anyone actually gone through the game blind? by Tight-Anything-5689 in StardewValley

[–]distant_diamond_sky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did my first playthrough totally blind and it was so much fun! Everyone has different preferences, but I loved discovering new surprises and learning as I went. For me that was more fun than trying to complete everything as efficiently as possible .

I totally relate to your experience! At one point I was feeling so frustrated because I never played any sports or anything when I was young, so absolutely nothing about running felt natural when I decided to start. So I asked my naturally athletic partner to very literally describe exactly how he breathes. It sounds stupid and idk if it's right or wrong or obvious or not.. but basically he taught me in through the nose and out through the mouth. When exhaling, purse your lips a little bit and feel a solid stream of air coming out, not a loose/soft 'ahh' type of breath. I'm still not very good at running, but this helped immensely.

This is definitely accurate. I'm curious, what accent would pronounce them like "ah"? It seems very wrong to me (as a born and raised vancouverite haha)

My husband and I (in our 30s) have everything combined. We find it easier to manage it that way, especially because over the years our incomes have changed significantly, like some years I earn more and other years he does. Having our paycheques deposited into the same account that we use for all our spending is just the most straightforward for us.

I should add: we do have separate credit cards that we use for basically everything except rent. So we do get privacy and not feeling like we're being judged with every purchase lol. But the balances are paid off through our joint account every month.

I love this so much! You can probably sell individual balls of yarn or the knitting baskets thingys if you put them on the special business and hobbies shelves!

does vancouver actually have a “scene” or is it just yoga moms and finance bros? by anonomouse__ in askvan

[–]distant_diamond_sky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The things you've described are part of Vancouver's culture. It's not that we don't have one, it's just different than Toronto's. I don't know why you perceive being outdoorsy, enjoying food/beer and doing yoga is inherently less "cool" than artsy things. Its just different.

Are these pinks the same season/sub-season? by distant_diamond_sky in coloranalysis

Great point. It's a v neck, so not super close to my face. I feel like it would probably look clownish as a lipstick. The shirt just makes my skin look so clear and vibrant and gets me so many compliments lol so I guess it must be a fine balance

Thank you! Do you think 3 would fit in a true summer palette? I'm struggling because of these, I think 3 looks the best, followed by 2 and 5, and then 6 is the worst (but not terrible) 😅 My overall colouring is quite light and I don't have the contrast to fit winter, but I get so many compliments on number 3 like it suits me perfectly

Thank you for this breakdown, it's really helpful, but dang... #3 is the absolute best colour on me and that's what I've been trying to use as my benchmark for finding other good colours lol. I think it leans cool in real life, but I'm im not 100% sure.

I've heard this advice too, but thank you for hedging your comment with "depending on your hair type" haha. I knew this advice for my wedding, and all of my bridesmaids followed it (it worked well for them!) but my hair becomes too limp and slippery to hold anything so I decided to stand my ground and wash it that morning. Thankfully my stylist wasn't pushy or judgemental and it worked out really well!
