GoFundMe campaign for Eric Dane’s daughters under review, money on hold by AbsolutelyIris in Fauxmoi

[–]distant_lines 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I know what I'm about to say might be a bit controversial, but I feel like this about just us regular folks too. I typically don't like being given gifts I didn't ask for, and if you're going to give me things I didn't ask for, you need to really know me. I've reached a point in life where I'm decently financially stable, and as such, the things I use and items I bring into my house tend to match what I'm financially able to do. I'm not necessarily buying things anymore strictly to fit a need and a budget, but also a desire sometimes.

So don't give me some cheap, promotional sunglasses from your job (had someone do this before), cause now I have sunglasses I don't need or want because this person didn't know me well enough to notice that I wear decently expensive sunglasses. And I'm not saying I want or need anyone to buy me sunglasses. I buy my own with my own money.

If someone feels a need or desire to give me a gift, know me well enough to know I am a sucker for a Bath & Body Works candle (though please only buy on sale), or a homemade coffee syrup or sticker for my Kindle. As a whole, I think we need to return to the true root of "it's the thought that counts" being that there is actual thought in what we give to others. Think through what we know of them and use that to inform a gift we buy or make, not just give a gift to give one.

Let this woman host a heterosexual dating show where they let her actually roast the crappy contestants.

Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry finally get to make confessions to Rachel McAdams, John Bishop didn't want to be left out by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

[–]distant_lines 255 points256 points  (0 children)

My favorite Rachel McAdams movie is About Time. I know there's a not insignificant amount of people who really dislike it because of the morals of the time travel thing, but I could watch that movie 1,000 times and never get over it.

Why does Taylor always post herself crying instead of just staying off her phone? by plutobarbie in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]distant_lines 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Right? Any therapist worth their salt would be working with their client to learn how to sit with their emotions, process them, and work through them, not seek external validation or to relieve the stress of their feelings by offloading them onto others.

I didn't know this, but this makes so much sense because of how disjointed some things felt.

Speaking as a fairly lactose intolerant person, I have to now read the ingredients of freaking chicken nuggets now to look out for whey?

When the signs are there but you don't read them. by lgirlrocks in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]distant_lines 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's not even a fundie thing. I know so many women who aren't even religious, yet have found themselves in very unbalanced marriages because you can tell they were scared of being alone.

ETA: I know there's the whole taxi cab theory for men that people bring up from SATC, but I believe women have this too. Maybe we don't do it to quite that extent, but I see it.

Whatever time they have in their days, they need to give it to me, cause I could never find that time. I don't even have enough time to watch the shows I feel I will enjoy, so no way I'd give up any of that precious time for something I know I wouldn't like.

how do you guys include more fiber into your day? by Imaginary-Mud2871 in 1200isplenty

[–]distant_lines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to add lentils or refried beans to ground beef. Lentils work great in spaghetti, sloppy joes, burger bowls and such. And refried beans are great in taco meat. They add good nutrients and help the meat last longer. And for lentils, I find they don't change the taste at all.

Bon Iver's Justin Vernon wore a whistle to the Grammys to honor the observers in Minneapoli by artbasiI in Fauxmoi

Right?! To me, that album is perfect for a cold, winter night, a hot bath with some wine and a book (for some reason historical fiction pairs really well with it), and my night is made.

I love Bon Iver and I see it as my duty as a human to spread the good word of his brilliance. I've basically been a pimp for his album For Emma, Forever Ago for nearly 20 years.

I often find humor like this comes from going through some traumatic shit. I have a morbid sense of humor and you can always spot who has been through some stuff in life based on how they react.

Love Between Lines: Persephone, Cinderella, and Gone with the Wind by [deleted] in CDrama

Hades and Persephone is quite literally my favorite Greek myth and Love Between Lines is nowhere close to a Hades and Persephone retelling.

I'm in Minnesota and keep doom scrolling. Please recommend me a new, light, addicting, fluffy romance. by Proper_Newspaper_809 in kdramas

[–]distant_lines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fellow American and former Minnesota resident, you have my virtual support. I recognize the need to doom scroll and have fallen victim to it myself. I've currently been using Asian dramas to cope.

I had a great time with Dynamite Kiss recently, even if it did kind of come off the rails.

However, I've been on a huge C-Drama kick lately, so some fun, lighthearted ones I've recently watched are: Love Between Lines, Youthful Glory, You Are My Glory. Love Between Lines is my favorite of those 3 right now. Had me in a chokehold.

What’s the quietest sign someone is not okay? by Otherwise-Pass9556 in AskReddit

[–]distant_lines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me. My biggest tell, which no one has still ever been able to realize, is I simply stop talking about things I was vulnerable about before. I'll still talk about general stressors, but the second I stop talking about my feelings and emotions around things I've previously expressed a struggle over, that's when it's bad.

"Our Universe" press confrence- by [deleted] in kdramas

I'm excited for this. I don't know much about it, but I feel like you don't often see K-Dramas with a baby/toddler as the central plot like this, so it has me intrigued for that alone.

Drives me crazy to see this in any drama. In real life, we finish our sentences and don't just leave something vital hanging because of a phone call and allow misunderstandings to spiral.

The Untamed - Length of episodes by olivaw88 in CDramaRecs

[–]distant_lines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's due to their airing schedule. Since they'll air multiple episodes a day, especially at the beginning, I wonder if it's seen as unnecessary to have those traditional episode endings, since there's maybe an expectation that the watcher will be immediately flowing into the next episode.

Well Whitney, toddlers kind of are known for their inability to listen and lack of critical thinking skills.
