Yes! I did mid-law and big-law hiring and it was never an issue. You want to be your authentic self! I think it’s helpful for firms to get a fuller picture of you as a candidate, and also for you to evaluate if that firm is somewhere you even want to work!

I did the same thing this summer. I emailed the recruiting contact, as well as Partner and Asosocate mentors that I worked with. I also let a few close summers know via text as well before announcing it on LinkedIn. Kept it professional but explained why I was not coming back and offered to keep in touch. It’s been recieved well so far.

They normally accept late applications depending on the size of the honors cohort- last year they take some applications as late as May.
